Just out of interest, what happens if a non-US troll posts on a US hosted website. What jurisdiction applies? Similarly, what happens if a US troll posts on a non US hosted site? I think this is a minefield and can't be effectively policed.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Looks like 11 of the 12 "alive" miners are in fact dead.
nacmacfeegle replied to grue's topic in The Bonfire
"But, I pose the question: Even if $20/hr is a huge amount of money for that area, is it still right to pay them just that, with what is at stake?" Companies will always pay the minimum to their people that they can get away with. Its the nature of capitalism, socialism doesn't have a particularly good record for mine safety either mind you, I think China has a pretty apalling mine safety record with something like over 3,000 deaths a year there. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Bush takes blame for faulty Iraqi intelligence

"The dog's name WAS "Nigger". And that is that. " Who's to say it was? Nigger was the dogs name in the original film, it doesn't necessarily mean that this geezer's dog was actually called Nigger in the first place. Come on folks, its just a film, you know, entertainment and all that. edit to add>>> Hmm after the most basic of Googles, it transpires that the dogs name was indeed Nigger, oh lookee humble pie, my favourite, yum, yum. Changing the dogs name won't change history, at least not in the way that say, Band of Brothers or Braveheart did.....Both excellent entertainment but not particularly accurate. But the point remains, if you want historical accuracy, you should stay out of the film theatre, maybe read a book or two, or even watch something like 'The World At War', the original film was full of flaws anyways. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "They're a bit sensitive about that part of their history. "This particular Scottish invasion was abandoned at Crewe when the Buffet Car ran out of alcohol!" Aye a bad day, much sobriety and peacefullness, very bad. 1977 if I recall, fortunately a small number of Feegles had the foresight to arrange a supertanker of ale to be docked at Tillsbury, so a minor party went ahead, albeit somewhat subdued..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "when The Clan MacFeegle seized Stirling Castle on Tuesday March 12th 1388 they basically kipped there for the night, ate a sheep for breakfast and then buggered off, leaving the proper owner wondering: "Whit Ra Feck 'Appened?" when he regained consciousness! " Och that...at least we did the dishes afore we left. Wisnae even a proper Ceildidh, we ran oot of whisky before supper and had to drink beer till dawn, the dancin' wis fine mind ye.. Mind that wee stramash on the grass in front of Stirling a few years earlier, about 1314 or so, now that, that was a proper party ! Most folk folk think that Robert the Bruce sent back the English army of 40,000 with just 13,000 Scots...pure pish, dinnae believe yon Hollywood history, It wis three Macfeegles with a hangover that day, we'd hae done the joab sooner had wee been proper fightin' drunk.. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Think adequate provisions as opposed to adequate equipment. Adequate equipment for a fire of this nature would be beyond the agreed definition of ALARP, as defined by Lord Asquith in the Coal board vs Edwards case. The technical definition of As Low As Reasonably Practical is the underpinning concept of all our current safety laws, the accepted definition of this term is the one laid down by Asquith.. So, for example, at a recent overtime spree at Gleneagles a number of provisions were available to you, or atleast your colleagues, like a Chinook, it would be unreasonable (but fun) to have one available 24/7 at Auchterarder. So, what you have is a central repository of 'provisions', large foam stocks, specialised equipment, monitors, telescopic foam pourers, mobile bowsers, high capacity monitors (cannons), breaching inlets and suchlike, etc. This is made availalabe to the nation, but not necessarily at every fire station. Very specialised equipment could be held on site, eg Haz Mat kits and soforth. If you see what I mean. However, demonstrating the efficacy of these 'provisions' is the reponsibility of the terminal owners, or duty holders in terms of the Control Of Major Accident Hazards regulations and associated HSAW laws. The duty holder in this case obviously got something wrong, they either underestimated the hazards associated with their plant, or they overestimated the capability of the local emergency response facilities, either way, its not the fire brigades' fault. Its the fault of the people who own the hazard. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "Apparently the Fire Service is being criticised because the local Fire Station was inadequately equipped to deal with this incident!" COMAH regs dude, COMAH regs, its the evil corporations that really are at fault here. Inadequate hazard management, breach of DSEAR laws, probably breach of HSAW law too. This amount of tank fires in one incident smacks of inadequate understanding of fire and explosion risk analysis, piss poor ER planning, and a sub standard safety case. The fire fighters had to withdraw because nobody knew what was in one of the tanks....WTF! Personally, I blame Total/Fina, they are French after all. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Cultural and social ramifications of DZ.com's Bonfire forum midway through the first decade of the twentyfirst century and it's impact on social networking, religion, and the simulation of fluid dynamics on 3 dimensional models in virtual worlds.

Roosevelt had made a public commitment to stay out of the war, however all bets were off when Japan hit at Pearl Harbour. America had to declare against Japan, and under the terms of the tripartite treaty America then found itself at war with Italy and Germany as well. This allowed Roosevelt to support Churchill without going against his word to stay out of the war. Pearl Harbour aside, I maintain that the USA would have been hard pushed to remain neutral, had the war remained basically a 'European affair' they would have been inexorably drawn into it. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Agreed, unless your cam is housed in some form of protection.

The LANC on a PC7 is via a wee adaptor about half the size of a book of matches (part no VMC LM7), it fits the power adaptor connection, it won't last long in freefall though. It also doubles as an external mic adaptor, and was used to hack the PC7 back in the old days by those of us who were early adopters of Sony's neutered (no DV-in) cams. Buy a spare battery and plenty of tapes, deffo cheaper than a newer canera.. Buy the wee gismo linked above, it works fine as a power on indicator, but won't act as a remote. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Hows about a bowler as a titfer? useful ain't they, and stylish to boot. Can't beat a stetson for keeping the sun off your napper and neck, but then again, not really a problem for us.
