  1. I had fried Grasshoppers, Scorpions, and Locusts while in China...I highly recommend them!! didn't have to eat them alive though!
  2. I am really jealous over here in Michigan. I love Lake Barryessa! That whole area is gorgeous.
  3. out of curiousity I googled "tiger cub pigs" and found this: "The photos are genuine (See more below) but the story's not true. She just likes pigs! The photos were taken at the Sriracha Tiger Zoo in Chonburi, Thailand (near Bangkok), known for its tiger-breeding program, but also because they like to mix species, partly as a tourist attraction (it works). So, no, there was no lost tiglets and no mourning mother ... in fact this tiger mum is happier than ever. Her name is Sai Mai and she's 2 years old. She was suckled by a sow when she was a cub, and thinks pigs are family. Samai is 2 yrs. old and was suckled by a sow when she was a cub. Evidently she considers pigs “family.” This democratic start in life allowed her to form a companionable relationship with pigs, and even a dog. All can be seen caged together at times. Says our Thailand reporter: “This is living proof that under certain circumstances differences in life don’t have to create friction. Surely the Sriracha Tiger Zoo is sending a message to us Homo sapiens that we can also live in peace and harmony.” http://improveyoureq.blogspot.com/2006/06/tiger-nurses-piglets-after-losing-cubs.html

    Wanted: Housecat

I've got a housecat like that, and she needs a home! However, she does not come when called, only looks at you like you're crazy.
  5. I've never had any issues receiving a signal with sirius, except for when we were on the twisties in West Virginia and the mountain was blocking my signal!
  6. I adore sirius, I haven't gone back to regular radio since I got it almost 4 years ago. I listened to XM and then Sirius and chose sirius because of the quality of stations. Not sure if its still that way though
  7. I had the spinal tap because of a headache, so I don't know about the headache afterwards!!! Its pretty painful though, it still hurt after 2 shots of morphine edit: but apparently you know about that already!
  8. The thing with Facebook is that it started as just a college networking site. It was really nice to be able to talk with fellow students from classes. Its stepped away from that now, obviously to cash in on the myspace craze. I liked it better when you could list your classes and such and find other classmates, but oh well.
  9. thats what I figured, I'm sure its chocked full of valuable information. I took his canopy control course as a mere student, and I learned valuable information from him, somethings that helped me get to where I am today. Without Brian I probably would not be jumping anymore. I want to pick up the Canopy book so I can recall many of the things that were over my head at the time of the class. Its just finding the time to read it during this busy semester.
  10. Is the second half of "The Canopy and its Pilot" much like Transcending Fear? TF helped me through so much, and I've learned so many things from Germain, I cannot thank him enough. I keep meaning to buy the Canopy book.
  11. Definitely common, I held that fear for a huge portion of my student progression. I still get it from time to time, but I just go through the reassurance steps 1. EPs, 2. check of 3 3. The confidence re-booster. If you haven't already pick up Brian Germain's Transcending Fear. That book gave me a TON of advice on how to get through the worst parts of my fear. Try to get your mind off the fear too, realize the thought and then work on letting it go. Distract yourself, I used to sing a song in the plane. Another thing I did was take a LONG door and played out in the air, and smiled while doing it, sort of a mental thing to relate happy thoughts with the door. Sounds silly, but most of my fear went away when my instructor made me look straight down out of the 182. When I realized it wasn't that bad, suddenly everything seemed to go a whole lot smoother for me!
  12. 5 3 on Saturday, including my successful check dive
  13. people leave the mileage off on cars on purpose...its usually an indicator of high mileage!
  14. Definitely talk to your instructor about this, but I will tell you about my problems with the same thing. When I started IAD I didn't have too many issues hanging on, but because of a riser slap on my 1st jump i had a nasty bruise on my wrist, that only got worse when I hung on the strut. I also used so much energy holding myself up on the strut that I was a kicking maniac when I finally let go because I had produced so much energy trying to hang. With the advice of a few instructors I moved onto poised exits, which I struggled with at first, I didn't do a count and would jump off but not let go of the strut and ended up slapping my hand on the step, so you do have to be careful with them. But with a couple of jumps it was the best way for me to go, and I ended up progressing faster, using that exit gave me more confidence for some reason. So talk it out with your instructor and see what they have to say about it. I find its better to talk to them about these things, because they only want you to be successful, so they'll find the right way for you to do things
  15. Oh I've ridden the plane down before, there's a joke about me actually going for my pilots license floating around Its all good though
  16. Blue Sky - Allman Brothers Divided Sky - Phish Birds of a Feather - Phish
  17. I had (ok have) the same problem, I haven't jumped in almost 6 weeks now, so I'm anxiously awaiting the restart of my training. BUT I'm still going to do it, because I know I love it, and I know that I love flying my canopy. Follow the advice previously given in this thread, it's all tremendously helpful. The deep breathing and SMILING is essential for me. Finding a groovy song to sing is also one that I use often. I also recommend Germain's book, and I remember the advice given to me "Its been such a short time that humans could fly, we need to embrace it!"
  18. I'm always up to help a fellow Anthropologist
  19. Nope. But you're reading into what I said, and totally putting words in my mouth! All I did was point it out to the fellow over there that the environment goes hand in hand with the issues he's concerned with. I'm actually on my way in a few days to China, to help attempt to alleviate some of the issues surrounding poverty and whatnot. I hope later on to work on programs such as PLAN international to work on things on a broader scale concerning clean water, vaccinations, and whatnot. Its not about consuming, as you seem to be stressing, its about surviving. Maybe you should leave the couch that you're watching that TV on, and actually go see what is going on around the world, and maybe help out yourself. :)
  20. Notice I said "aside from Global warming" and pay attention to the fact that I was talking about Environmental Issues...like you know, water shortages that are being felt throughout the entire world, droughts, desertification, etc. etc. These environmental issues go hand in hand with poverty, starvation, and disease. No need to get all uppity about it, I was just pointing it out.
  21. I wanted to have my A by now, but because of mental blocks followed by health issues, I haven't been able to be in the air as much as I'd like to be. But its all good, I still get to jump, and I still improve and learn with each jump, so I'll deal with it.
  22. Aside from Global Warming, you do know that environmental problems go hand in hand with poverty, starvation, and disease right now throughout the world, right? In no way do I support the stupid Live Earth concert, I just wanted to bring this fact to your attention :)
