  1. In my case, the separation was not appropriate due to me counting too fast. Then we add the parallel to jump run track and we end up with a close opening. It's two links on the event chain... I've learned from it
  2. Of course that makes perfect sense now with the benefit of hindsight. Truth is, we didn't plan it or brief it beforehand so when it came to breakoff alt we just did a 180. In the future I'll make sure we both track perpendicular to jumprun but alas, this was my first time doing this and didn't have it in my head at the time.
  3. I guess I can add the first mistake I've made here too! I just got my A license and was doing my first 2 way without an instructor. The guy I was jumping with had a lot more experience than I did but is not a trainer in any way. Pilot orders a 15 sec delay, the AFF instructor jumping before us (he was traininig another instructor, not a student) says to wait more like 19 secs as he'll be moving a lot. I was in control of the exit and counted way too fast. Dive went well, we did 4 points and then tracked away from each other. Unfortunately for me, that meant tracking along the jump run. I opened and landed. The AFF instructor gave me a talking to, apparently we exited too fast and I ended up opening 100 feet away from him and he wasn't happy. Things I've learned, count slowly and make sure you follow the plan. Don't track towards jump run. Buy beer.
  4. I think it depends on the person as well and not only on the method of introduction. I was a pilot long before I did my first skydive so after doing the research I decided to go straight to AFF. The canopy flight bit did not scare me at all and I managed from the first jump to land close to target with an adequate pattern. It's about self confidence as well, if someone is willing to face the challenge of unaided (except by radio) canopy flight, I would recommend AFF.
  5. Thank you! I find the canopy part of the dives quite natural and can land relatively close to the target due to having a feel for gliding. The rest is still a steep learning curve. I did about 8 jumps in Z-Hills earlier this month so hopefully I'll get a lot more in spring.
  6. Hello everyone! I'm Mariano, I'm currently living in Paris, France where I work for easyJet flying their planes. I did my first AFF jump way back in 2007 but only finished it this November. Going to Ocaña soon to try and finish the A licence and will be traveling to Skydive City in Zephyrhills in April next year to jump for 2 weeks. Looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can and of course, hit me up for cheap airline tickets around Europe if you need it!
