In my eyes he prevented a situation not caused one. . . . You must have watched a different video to me then. Large costume, big head, spread arms, TI with no drag arms and legs, smaller than the passenger......And when it went over he should have waited to bring it round before pitching the drogue....... But hey... Journey not destination.....

Trouble is that if you live by the sword then you die by the sword........... As TI's we have all fucked up and will continue to do so, but by sacrificing safety for "cool" then you are going to get criticised. With all your jumps it shouldn't have taken a lot to work out the physics of how that would go. As Red Bull AirForce you have access to a wider audience than most and therefore have a greater responsibility to be better. Journey not destination.....

That looks a lot better :) any chance of one???? Have taken lots of snaps and the switch has behaved wonderfully!! Would definately reccomend it as an alternative to the Tongue switch I had. Journey not destination.....

looking for stills/vid/helmet setup advice
skydog replied to brycey1's topic in Photography and Video
I have done exactly what you are asking. I went from up top side by side stills/vid FTP to a 2K Fuzion with a side mount cx105 and 400d top. The helmet is very lightweight and v comfortable. A lot lighter than my FTP for sure. Journey not destination..... -
Just received mine and first impressions are good. Is much smaller than it looks, which is good as my helmet is tight fitting. Worked straight out of the box and as promised. The auto focus works and the single/continuous shooting are easy. The only small thing is that the wire to the camera plug is very thin and exposed at the joint. I have taped it up to make it more sturdy. Will report back after jumping it a bit. Journey not destination.....

You keep banging on about "no significant improvement in safety" with them off............but how are they "safer" with them on? All I can say is in the 3500 tandems (750 this year) that the landing incidents, where I was more likely to injure the student, were with the lowers attached. Have had similar circumstances without them attached and the outcome wasn't nearly as "rough" but hey......... Journey not destination.....

I really love sanctimonious people........especially this time of year. In my early tandems I had some horrible landings, with the lowers connected, one ended up with me pivoting round, pulling the student round and me landing on top. If they weren't on it probably wouldn't have gone that way. Go figure!! In the next 3500 tandems have been in all sorts of conditions and all sorts of students and, touchwood, haven't injured one as yet. Why? simple, have improved my landing technique to overcome the vagaries of weather and student. Can't say it will never happen just that I am more aware and more technique orientated, rather than smashing them in regardless............ Merry Christmas.... Journey not destination.....
-
I disconnect mine at 2000ft (and tuck them in between the student and me) after I know there are no canopy issues. As for high pivot point, if you are smashing your landings you should reconsider being a TI. Journey not destination.....

You are kidding........isn't it time for a reality check here. The requirements are a joke. Whatever happened to depth of knowledge? At 360 jumps how have you mastered any skills? Jeez, c'mon guys. AFFI isn't a badge to aim for, this isn't the boy scouts. Remember you have REAL lives in your inexperienced hands.......... It is the end result of experience, knowledge and skill., which CANNOT be got after 360 jumps. Anyone can get lucky on a course (and there has been plenty of anecdotal evidence on that) Having done both the USPA and BPA AFF ratings I can say I do prefer the requirements of 1000 jumps and at least 3 years in the sport. Thanks for that, is an interesting read and gives me a nice framework to go from. Cheers Journey not destination.....

I need some help. A part of the BPA Advanced Instructor Course is a specialist lecture. I have been thinking of detailing case studies where injuries/incidents have occurred and what could have been done to avoid them, i.e. breaking the chain. There are 4 degree's of injury, slight (no hospital), medium (hospital and less than 3 weeks off work), serious (hospital and off for greater than 3 weeks) and fatal. I am looking for examples of each, where intervention, once or at various stages would have prevented the injury. If there are pictures, video or any other media that would be appreciated. I am trawling through the incidents thread here but would like first hand examples which I can use to illustrate the point that part of being an Instructor/jumper is the "breaking the chain" in the "pyramid of disaster" If you are not comfortable posting here then feel free to PM me. Thanks Journey not destination.....

or.........abide by the rules of the country your in?? Radical concept I know.......... Journey not destination..... -
Jeez, talk about scare mongering....... Have had my metal in place for 5 years. Taken some hard hits and no problems. End result is if you break your fib then you can live without it. I have mine in and a friend has his out because it caused him pain and he could feel the screws and was uncomfortable............... Journey not destination.....

Green Mile...........most Stephen King adaptations suck!! Journey not destination.....

You missed the point. If the passenger/student wants all that then fine. If they want the fairground ride that's fine as well. I get hacked off at athese evangilical posts about "having" toteach them everytime when in some cases they clearly have no wish or desire to persue skydiving post jump. It's not about the number o jumps you can do in a day/week/month, is more about the quality of the instructor!!! Journey not destination.....
-
Agreed, but if you read my earlier post you would see I put safety as pre-requisite for any tandem. That's where the conversation between the TI and passenger/student is vital and probably the most overlooked!! Treat people with respect, let them enjoy the experience and give them what they "want" and you really can't go wrong! Journey not destination.....
-
Not pissed at all, just hacked off that busy TI's always seem to be getting a bad press. If we think about what the customer wants rather than what we want them to have then maybe that is a good place to start. Not every passenger wants an altimeter, practice body position, be altitude aware and open the parachute, and we shouldn't force them. So let's stop all this general TI bashing and if there is an issue with an individual then tell them or name and shame rather than denegrating us as a whole......... Journey not destination.....
-
Why is it a sin to be a busy fulltime TI? I do a lot of tandems (3000 so far) and "entertain" as much as I can. Not all passengers are wanna be skydivers, some do only want the fairground ride and some will want to learn more. Let's not be evangelical about this. You won't convert everyone and shouldn't try if that's what the student/passenger wants. Important thing is to give the person what "they" want and not force your ideals for their skydiving future on them. Be safe, be entertaining and respectful.......its not about getting a tip (rarely happens in the UK) So give us a break if we happen to do more tandems than a few on weekend every now and then....... Journey not destination.....

What exactly are you upset about? That he took an elderly person on a tandem at all? Or that he didn't know the guy's exact age? Maybe the fact he took an 82 year on old on his first jump as a Tandem Instructor!!! That's how I read it. Journey not destination.....

PdeF have horrible customer service, that's a fact. Check out other threads about it. So, if this is a way of highlighting it then fine. I would hardly think this will cause a ripple in the PdeF "customer" service department. So fcku them off and buy something else instead!!!! Journey not destination..... -
Nothing to do with the fact that the majority are backpackers and handcam is the cheapest option?? Journey not destination.....
