Unstable exits happen. I doubt there are any TI’s who can honestly say they have “never” had un unstable exit but using the drogue to try to get stable or throwing it while on your back is scary. I’d love to hear from the TI about his thoughts on this jump

Sony HDR-CX155E 4 way question
freefalle replied to bellringer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
so there are better cameras that the cx155E for video. Why are you choosing that one in particular? Just curious. That being said if you are going to use that camera the correct wide angle lens depends on your flying style. meaning how close you fly to the team. I typically used a .5 wide angle lens it was side enough for me to make sure I got a good exit and to keep the team in frame when I was flying. If you fly super tight with your team you'll need something wider. Honestly for big ways I didn't use a wide angle lens. I flew high enough above the formation to keep it in frame without a wide angle lens. You'll have to play around a little bit to find the set up that works with your style of flying. I'd recommend starting with the .5 wide angle lens and going from there. Make sure you buy one that matches the threads on the camera, try no to use a step down ring if you don't need to they can cause some problems on some cameras. Also another thing to think about is, are you going to shoot stills. You want to make sure that the lens for your camera match your wide angle lens so your photos match what your shooting on video -
well at least you're honest man!!

freefalle replied to jonasMan's topic in Photography and Video
not a pilot, and don't jump wing suits yet. What FAR did they violate? -
Are you shooting with a flash for those sunset loads? If so how are you mounting it??

Fang took me on my first skydive. It was a tandem at skydive Deland in 1986. He's the reason I became a skydiver.

Redundant external hard drive..... after a while I delete the oldest stuff unless there is a specific reason I want to keep it

Tonfly 2x, Protrack 2, and Cookie Fuel
freefalle replied to Crispy.'s topic in Photography and Video
I like the idea of the Tony fly better. I think your audible will fit internally just fine. I think the Tony fly will give you the versatility to mount your still camera vertically or horizontally if you choose to. -
Are you talking about a 19mm for stills? What challenges are you having with it? I think that you are going to find the 30mm and the 50mm too tight unless there’s a lot of separation between you and the formation. Especially if you’re trying to get exit shots. For the moment, I’m still using my sony cx100 it works okay, I’m pairing it with the canon 5d mark iii and I’m going to start with a 24mm prime lens and see how it does. I’m also looking at the sony X-3000, I’ve heard good things about it and the price isn’t bad, I’m just not sure about it’s suitability for shooting big way stuff. I suspect it will do fine but just not sure

Thanks man, that helps a lot!

Hey guys the folks at really right stuff are a little confused about using their L plate on a helmet. I’m not having much luck finding a base quick disconnect plate that mounts to the helmet. Any help you can give as far as a part number or anything would be really appreciated!

can anyone help with the exit order please?
freefalle replied to swotcox's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It depends on the DZ. There are a few different thoughts about exit order. I always ask when getting a DZ briefing before manifesting. But have no fear, there will always be someone in the boarding area to tell you how to do it...... -
What camera and wide angle lens (if any) are you using for big ways? Just curious.... Also, if you're using a FF still, what lens are you using and does it match the field of view of your video camera??
-
Hey man thanks for your help. How are you actually mounting the L bracket to the helmet? It looks like you have some kind of base under the L bracket thats attached to the helmet. I'm assuming you bought separate but I can't find anything like it on the RRS site. Thanks again.

Interested in getting into Wing Suit flying
freefalle replied to freefalle's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I've done a few wing suit jumps back when I was in Palatka with Chuck Blue and really liked it. I'm interested in getting more coaching and possibly buying a suit but SO much has changed about wing suits since I made my first jumps... I'm in Cali and jump at skydive California what kind of training is there? Are their demo suits available so I can see if this is something I really want before spending a bunch of money on a suit. I'm 6'3 and weigh almost 240 is it possible to find a suit to demo that would fit? Any advice would be welcome -
I checked out skydive California a few years ago when I first moved to California and had a good time. I moved away but recently moved back and now it's my home DZ. I'm still getting to know people but everyone has been really friendly. The DZ management cares a lot about safety and it shows. I highly recommend this place.

Can I see photos of your set up? Just checked out RRS and it looks like exactly what I want! Thanks!

So I'm getting ready to mount my camera on my helmet and looking for mounts. I have a canon 5D Mark III. I'm mounting it to a bonehead flattop pro. Looking for both vertical mounts. What's everyone using?? Thanks

I'd personally go with the 16 or the 20. A 50mm lens probably isn't the best for tandems it's a little tight for the distance you should be to get good video and probably not going to match well with the video lens. I used a 20mm lens when I shot tandem video and that seemed to work well for me. Try whatever lens you have, see how they match up and how well they frame your subject. I think you'll be happy with the 16 or the 20mm

I'd love to know that the TI had to say about this incident. -
okay, I'm sorry What does the 350.00 boogie fee include?

It will fry the sensor in a digital camera if you don't have the correct filter on your camera. It's not work the risk to your gear if you don't have the right tools
