  1. That would be Ted Mayfield from northern Oregon. Yup, she sure did leak oil. I jumped her many a time. It had been converted to the one vertical rudder and into tricycle landing gear. Very easy to takeoff and land; no more ground loops. But the oil was all over the exterior of the plane At LP Ted needed help pushing the bird back into its parking slot. Another jumper and I got drafted by Ted for a little muscle (how could we say no ) but as we were pushing it back we were joking to ea other this was as close as we ever wanted to get to that oil pig. I'm guessing anyone anyone outside the acft in flight like front float was going to have a jumpsuit that looked like a oil rag. Even larry hill had a minor incident ground looping the westwind, I forget the reason but the only damage was the one of the front tire beads lost its seal. Quick fix. For the OP I think he might consider looking into a pilatous porter. Kapow got their first turbine a sweet p. porter from Alaska. Only one engine to maintain, large exterior step, Stol, and a hi speed elevator to altitude. I forget how many years they kept it but I'm guessing at least 3 to 4 than they up sized to the twin otter as business grew, then added a caravan because the dz became a magnet for jumpers from all over the pnw. John Mitchell might know where the porter went. I'm not a pilot but imo the porter was a sweet jump plane for a jumper and might be a good choice for a dz depending on the business volume. The porter of course is also a tail dragger. Get over it with the right pilot it shouldnt be a problem.
  2. Irregardless of which DZ your going to jump at your going to have to rent a car to get around. Driving around the seattle metroplex can be real challenging You dont want to go with the flow and get jammed up in rush hr traffic so either camp out at the dzs that allow it or get a room close by. Come up with alternate plans in case we're in a wet cycle, Mt Ranier and Mt St Helens, Mt Baker are nice day trips. You can drive the long way around from the seattle side to Kapow, two hrs is a realistic estimate or you could take the ferry from Seattle to the olympic pennisula and float straight across. The ferry ride won't save you any time, but you get to see some nice scenery
  3. The Westwind mod on the origional twin beech is a beautiful airplane
  4. Hi Checked your profile, you've only been around the sport 17 yrs.
  5. You mean to do it TWICE! Hi Mr T Oh that I did tell them about the 100 jump wonder that got to make one wing suit jump successfully and fell out of his harness on the second wingsuit jump. There are some things you never forget The kid was young, dumb, wanted it all now. And will stay young forever Skymonkey one told the kid no, but some of the youngs ones think they know better. 6. Ha. That's our base. Seriously, I'd rather our dry-ish heat than your guys' humidity. Pass. We're in the low 70's today. On the downside though, it's pretty cloudy til noon.
  7. I've already ran into a couple of young stud muffin wanna be future base jumping wing suitors. I just and tell them they can't afford it in a $$ way. AFF, gear, 200 jumps before the wing suit etc etc, It may look but it takes a lot of $, time, work and luck. One Jump Wonder
  8. Amazing the number of seattle fans still wearing their seahawks t shirt's in july. One Jump Wonder

  10. Hi K Great thread. I was LMAO reading about the challenges of jumping sqrs back in the day. Then I came across the Ad from parachutist posted by JR. Damn this must be a old thread. But it was a new one to me
  11. The worst part of the weston bridge tragedy Is there were a significant number of tourists with their kids on the bridge watching the demo that witnessed the bridge strike up close and personal. The red mist and other gory stuff is available on U tube right out of jebs mouth. One Jump Wonder

Thats the cost of progress, I suspect the rock climbing will still be available, and the local mom and pop businesses will relocate inland and still be available to the budget minded tourists Thailand was a very nice place back in the later half of the 60s. We spent a week there mostly working. IMO the Thai people are very gracious, and have some of the most beautiful women in SEA. Back in the day we heard a apple could get a person almost anything. For the pilots

I'm not a pilot and will wait on the offical faa report. The lawyers will sort everything out after the faa does their thing. Glad to see the pilot didn't try and turn around immediatly after T.O. to try and make it back to thr airport. We've lost way to many jumpers from that. Any locals or pilots know the relative location of the departure airport and the impact area.? One Jump Wonder

I was invited to some kind of a reunion a few years ago. Everyone still lived on the east coast, except us who live on the left coast. Scratch head, scratch butt. Travel time would be 10 times longer than the reunion TBSS I had a conflict in my busy schedule They boys in the hood didn't even have the courtesy to post pic's of the reunion for those of us that live to far away. To bad I'm really disappointed. One Jump Wonder
  17. TBSS no pics We were driving a 2003 Trailblazer, great for hauling the hounds, and towing a trailer. Mpg sucks unless your driving cross country, than it increases by 50%. We now have a second car that is the love of my life. A 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis LS. 75k miles, Mpg 50% better than the trailblazer around town. The mercury is as big as a bus, 4 door with a trunk big enough for everything. I'm hoping we're set for life in the car dept. We inher One Jump Wonder

Number 2 has had a lot of practice being creepy I didnt notice any reference to women dress size, so he's refining his line of BS. Also enjoyed his reference to the fact that he works for the military. I hope he finds another soul mate. One Jump Wonder

  22. I did notice the subject post is at the top of the hit parade again where it belongs. If DB thread can keep the number one slot in the H & T forum I'm guessing you have a contender with the word game, in the bonfire. With a couple of the top contenders. Its a timeless thread. As long as its close to the top. Someone will notice it and keep adding to it, rolling it back to the top. It's a feel good thread. One Jump Wonder
  23. WAG WW2 movies or WW1. Interesting drawing I remember drawing pics of WW2 bombers in grade school with the bomb bay doors open and bombs away. Wonder what the teachers thought. These days much worse. One Jump Wonder
