Scary stories from the old days?
phildthedildo replied to steve1's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
NO. they closed their doors back in the 80's.as i said it was a Big corporate dropzone ,one of 2(or 3) that they operated at the time -
actually the oval shaped (X section)ripcords were available in white for mains (80%polycarbonate,20% glass)and red (70%polycarbonate,30%glass) for reserves.they were made and sold by Steve Snyder's SSE Inc/Para Flite.the very first Strong enterprises plastic ripcord that we saw at SSE/PFI failed when we pulled it on our ripcord test bench(less than 200 lbs at room temp)FAA reqirement is 300lbs for 3seconds.

Scary stories from the old days?
phildthedildo replied to steve1's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Ed Callahan (of para flite/ airborne systems) was one of those students. we have heard quite a few "horror" stories over the years about this particular dz,some that were downrite criminal. -
if the "v " rings are on the side wings of the container, then they are just for anchoring the reserve belly band(it keeps the reserve from flopping around).can you post a pic? if they are om the main lift web, then youve got a problem if they are just hand tacked.

i remember Billy reevis too. he had come up to Steve Snyders dropzone in new jersey to jump the para plane.for some reason , all the control lines ripped off the tail on one side and put him in a violent spin. rather than cut away, billy just fired his reserve off which cleared and opened. i took pictures of the whole sequence with a 400 mm lens ,came out pretty good. people crticized him ,quite severely as i recall, but the pitures show that the reserve never really stood a chance of entanglement because the main was diving.someday i will dig out my old negatives.........
