Well i was not there and have only read the newspaper report but if as it was stated the blades did hit the guy then the blades were too close to the ground.The take off is the most dangerous part of a helicopters flight profile,i know the pilots are under alot of pressure to put on a good show and provide a thrilling ride,but they need to exercise a degree of common sense.With the blades that close to the ground there is zero room to maneuver, regardless of the need be it a malfunction,or or in this case an unforeseen spectator jumping up. Just my opinion anyway.My heart goes out to all concerned,including the pilot who will probably relive this day for the rest of his life.

Skydive utah is just to the south,it had a really fun ,nice crowd, when we went the about 2 years ago.They had a Beech-18 back then,though there was a scuzzy french guy who felt up the wife while taking her on a tandem.Dosnt matter that he was french, but he was.It was actually quite funny as she spun arround and told him to keep his fucking hands to himself(well i thaught it was anyway),he went quite red.Otherwize we dont go over that way much,there is a great cave just to the east, begins with a T but i forget the name.And if you have time, Moab to the south east is a drive but is fantastic,we go there all the time.

I dunno,from what i remember from my days teaching primary flight students,they could barely keep the helicopter in the air. Im not sure what would have happened if i had jumped out!!!! But i always bully the company pilots to let me jump now when im giving re-currency training.

Beaumont actually has a Twin-Bo now. It may not seem like too much but it is a great DZ,the guys there are the Best, real friendly.I learned there and still count it as my home even though i live in Colorado and jump anywhere i can while i travel.

I like Cessna's.I like Turbines more but as has been said the 182 is fun (dont like being in the V though).Helicopters now, i will not fly or fly in if they dont run on Jet-A.Ive been on the receiving end of an engine failure in a helicopter and turbines are just that much more reliable.Having said that the engine-out was in a turbine,so i guess my theory is in fact bollocks.But i still wont fly in anything else.
