  1. Everyone's saying to learn how to pack at the local dz until I'm able to actually jump anyway. How would I go about that? Just show up and ask? Call? Any ideas?
  2. The dz ill be going to is like 5 minutes away, I watched the jumpers for 13 years now woo
  3. Nah apparently they moved over the bridge because they figured they'd leave the crime behind them, but just brought more to Philly.
  4. If you live in a major city like Houston, TX, and have to battle traffic both ways to commute to work, with other drivers who either have lost the will to live or simply can't drive wortha shit....that saying could possibly hold some truth. Smaller cities and towns, with lesser traffic...driving is much safer...if your a safe driver. Personally I'd say the risks balance out. The city driving I do and the jumps have about an equal risk... but as others have said, its driver/pilot error rather than gear failure. 0.02 So basically, me living in the city with the highest murder rate and going back and forth between philly and newjersey, a city and state with high accident rates, my odds are actually better jumping, lol niceee
  5. Well does anyone go to Free Fall Adventures in Cross Keys NJ? LoL I got the beer for teaching how to pack ahead of time for me.
  6. If I go through with everything, i just might go into buying used gear of my own. What's the gear rental a day where you guys are? I know just for the 1st tandem its like 30 or 40$.
  7. Nobody cares how old you are when it comes to paying your beer fines. You'll have no trouble finding someone over 21 to hand your money to so they can go buy your case and put it in the dz fridge. The only possible out is if you are a recovering alcoholic. And even then you'll be expected to bring a case of something for a first, even if it's a case of water. btw, packing is an excellent way to make money. And it's legal, too. Yeah I've been reading that but I don't wanna go and look like im ahead of myself, not even legal to jump just yet. Keep thinkin their gonna be like "Wtf, this kid doesn't even know what he's in for and he's trying to learn to pack?"
  8. Wait wait wait....hold on there young grasshopper... $140??? Your AFF is going to cost just a tad more than that.....unless you're getting an AMAZING deal on AFF. AFF costs me about $1400. Is that way you meant?? Maybe I misunderstood?? Yeah the AFF is 1595, I have money aside for that already. I was saying if I go along with the AFF and proceed to jumping on my own and being licensed, jumps are 20$ here and that during the season pools would pay for the jumps. I was saying to the guy who said "5-20$ a pool? skydiving's an expensive sport", that 140 from pools = 7 fun jumps.
  9. lol im only 18. unless theres someone who'll teach me how to pack who wants a case of beer for the teaching ha
  10. lol your 100% right. So far everything I could've done I wanted more of or better. Started as a kid with the tiny free-falls, to the bigger theme park freefalls, to the 'bunge jump' swings on the boardwalks-then actual bunge jumping from a bridge *dad didn't know about that til after*. Nothings turned me away, but none of that compares to skydiving im guessing, just assumed I'd like it haha. We'll see i guess
  11. I've got money to the side to pay for the AFF if I indeed do go all the way with it and enough $ for my own gear down the road. I was saying at 20$ a jump, the 80$-140$ I make a week just from pools would be a good and easy way to pay for the jumps themself. 140 = 7 jumps for doing nothing but pools. On top of that I take home 1400 from working a month, and college is free.
  12. You make it sound like we might belong to a "certain italian subculture..." lol. In philly, football pools are a huge thing that's been around so long it's normal to everyone pretty much. He figures it's side money that's not getting out of hand, 5-20$'s/pool, no one gets nuts. I think I might be getting him to give in though, because now he asked about going to watch at the dropzone of other people jumping, sound good?
  13. Yeah your right. I'm 18 soon so technically I am free to do what I want. But just the money from football pools would've made it a whole lot easier and affordable. Thinking just go do the tandem without him knowing and toss him the video when I get home, show him I'm still standing after and it might lessen it? Ha
  14. Well, my dad is one of the people who buy into the media portraying skydiving as insane and practically daring death and for people who have no will to live... My money for sky diving was going to come from side money during football season. Each week, I usually make like 80$ a week selling football pools and then I'd figure 20$ of my own, and I get 5 jumps a week while only paying for one out of my pocket. Now he threatens to cut my source to the bookie, who he knows, to keep me from getting $ from that... Any of you guys know a good article on easing peoples anti-skydiving views and proving that it's dangerous but the sport is relatively safe if the jumper is too?
  15. Super Skyvan Super Otter 22$ 14,000 feet both the same
  16. It's 22$ per jump at this one, just wondering what you guys pay around.
  17. Ah starting to seem more scary as it's gettin closer haha. I'm still gonna do it anyway. My luck, I'd avoid skydiving to avoid the injuries and danger and then get it from some freak accident in everyday life. Haha I waited 14 years and there's no way im gonna change my mind.
  18. Sits fine with me. Sounds a whole lot safer then driving. So basically the fatalities in skydiving are on your decisions, unlike I guess say...driving where you can be 100% defensive and still get hurt from someone else? So it's probably the most popular phrase ever, but for the amount of people doing both, the "safer then driving a car" saying is actually true than?
  19. I hear different things and read different stats. Some people from the local dz say the odds of being killed or injured along the lines of being paralyzed are virtually tiny for the amount of jumps that occur. is this true? I read that theres a tiny amount of deaths per year and like 97% are mistakes and bad decisions, not gear failure. But then i seen another forum dedicated to in memory of's and there were like 400 threads in the passed 6 months.
  20. http://www.freefalladventures.com/advanced.html 14,000 feet. and all the gear is included. So it's 9 jumps, 2 instructors, and 14,000 feet jumps with ground school.
  21. 25 jumps for $735 That's more then double the jumps I posted for less then half the price. Was that post correct? That averages 29.40 a jump compared to the 160 AFF cost here. Or is he talking about regular jumps?
  22. I'll find out when time gets closer. Right now I'm just looking around. But I figured the tandem would decide if it was for me or not. The tandem is separated for that purpose and not included in the fee. if you like the tandem and decide you wanna go all out, then you buy from jump 2 onto 10 and the ground school. 1795, 1595 if you buy it all together after the tandem
  23. Well now it's closer and the 13 year wait since i was 5 to jump will be over! The place I'd be going to is Free Fall Adventures in Williamstown, NJ, im pretty sure its the closest to me being from South Philadelphia. Save $100.00 and get a FREE SKYDIVE by purchasing the entire program including all 9 student skydives and ground school. $1595.00 So after the tandem which is 149 and 30 for gear, it's 1600 for ground school and 9 more jumps. Is this a good deal?
  24. I make 1200 a week under the table with construction and some little stuff on ebay for about another 150 a week...
