  1. I've packed for myself for almost every one of my jumps and this is pretty close to the way I do it - after setting both locking stows. I've never had any problems with messy line stowage or apparent effect on deployments. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. 2. "the Spirit jet received an automated TCAS warning that required him to begin an immediate 1,600-foot descent to 12,800 feet from a previous altitude of 14,400 feet.” Sounds like someone showed some boobies to get some extra altitude and then got their sunset jump ruined. 3. When I evaluated dropzones 29 years ago for my first jump, I simply went with the cheapest. Things worked out ok, I lived, I jumped again. Sure, it looked sketchy, the gear wasn't the newest, but they were earnest and they all survived their jumps. Seemed like a plan. You want more assurances, then the ball room at IKEA might be more your speed. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. 4. That helmet went in 'one direction'. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  5. Those are some hard-hitting questions, wouldn't you say? "Not sure how to describe what the issue is"? Not to nitpick much, but... - redefining "lockup" as "no-response"? Parsing your terminology doesn't change the reality. - fact checks: "17 units out of 30,000"? Are there 30k units in service with DOMs during the 4-year period? And are there verifiable "thousands saved by a CYPRESS"? - finally, asking a product manufacturer the question as to whether he thinks you should purchase it? Really? 6. What's all that white shit on the ground? Nice vid for the ramp work. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  7. As long as you didn't lose the keg, there should be no questioning your judgment. Just make sure you have B-12s for quick deployment. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess

  9. Great. By then, we'll ALL be landing off. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  10. When it's sold, it is part of the assembly that you normally get, however most containers have no TSO'd main components. Usually it's just the harness and reserve container (including freebag and PC) that hold TSOs. You could tie a bedsheet to your harness rings (the 3 ring ones) and jump it all you want, so long as the reserve is legal and you intend to land the 'main', you're fine. So you're saying the main container itself is not part of the TSO and as far as the FAA is concerned, a certified rigger is not required for work performed on it? 11. Completely in agreement. Unless it's already been mentioned, EP's for water landings, roof landings, and in some cases, tree landings might require chopping the main without having to worry about the reserve being automatically deployed. No way would I ever jump with an un-detachable RSL. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. 12. Absolutely. I've done it dozens of times. Always at appropriate altitudes and having cleared my airspace. Lots of fun when flying with others. As it's been said, those with small, twitchy canopies might not want to do it, but then they probably know better or they wouldn't be on such a canopy, right? And is dthames really going to spin up his Pilot 210? As pchapman puts it, you're going to find yourself fighting to keep the harness from untwisting. After all it is a huge 1/2 twist in your lines. For even more fun, try to keep the 180 and see how well you can steer.... Thanks for your attention and now that this pied piper has led all the young jumpers to their newest peril, please flame away. 13. +1 After all, you can't trust those infernal horseless carriages anyway, muh horse's always got me where I'm-a goin', dag-nabbit! Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  14. Was there a suspicious gap in your memory of the jump? Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  15. Looks fine for plan B. His Velcro was probably a little worn. Then ya get it fixed, sayin' it's OK to jump with gear rigged like that is about as dumb as doin it. How'd that fishhook taste? It's not too often someone snags you... Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess

  17. Apparently it's a long trip to 'altitude'. 1 hour to 3k. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4287004;search_string=blimp%20jump;#4287004 Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. 18. Thx. Couple of the articles I found used the phrase "the pilot ejected". Journalists. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  19. I just ran across this.. "A Boeing 727 passenger jet has been deliberately crash-landed. The pilot ejected just minutes before the collision. The plane was packed with scientific experiments, including crash test dummies. Dozens of cameras recorded the crash from inside the aircraft, on the ground, in chase planes and even on the ejecting pilot's helmet. All of this was done for a feature length documentary to be shown on the Discovery Channel later this year." Reportedly, the pilot parachuted (ejected?!) out of the 727 at 2500 feet. I'm thinking he probably went out the rear stairs. Anyone know more info about the jump? http://travel.usatoday.com/flights/post/2012/04/boeing-727-crash-landed-in-mexican-desert/683824/1 Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. 21. Negative G will not be achieved unless someone yanks you back down by your short hairs. Might possibly be recommended in Bravest's case. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  22. Swing and a miss, B. Initial impact should result in at least a solid +2G with foot firmly in ass, Trajectory from apogee and through descent will briefly result in a soothing zeroG until impact with the ground and being confronted with your folly. 23. First video's rather old. By the date on it, clearly the second is, too. In the second, what the HELL was he doing holding both front and rear risers together? Apparently he kept hanging on to them both all the way through, with no effective attempt at a turn. At least the guy he ran into made a (late) right turn. Then again, as close as they were, any try for turns may just have been too late. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen.
