  1. hmm ok I guess things might be different over there. Every DZ I have talked to or been to has said that they not only require your first jump to be tandem but require your first 2 jumps to be tandem. Im not claiming to be an expert by any means, I am very new to the sport myself but that is just what I have seen so far
  2. depending on where you are is really going to determine the price. Im pretty sure no matter where you go you will HAVE to do it tandem being your first jump. I havent heard of anywhere else that will let you go solo, and that makes a lot of sense. It is a very dangerous sport especially if you dont know what you are doing. That being said i have seen tandem jumps range anywhere from $150 - $300 so like I said it really all depends on where you go. I would suggest contacting the DZ you are going to be jumping at and ask them about their pricing
  3. Hello I am about to start working towards my uspa a license and I travel all over the world for my job. I was wondering if a USPA license would work in other countries?
  4. seeing as how I am new to the sport, how would I be able to tell the difference between 'good' and 'bad' used gear?
  5. Yes I am, I will be in norfolk for work for about a month so I am planning on doing everything then. I talked with a guy ad the DZ and he said I should be able to get everything finished. Being that I am on a limited amount of time there he said that they would give me some priority so I can get it all done
  6. ya I was thinking about that but since I am new to the sport I want to buy a used rig first in case I dont end up liking what I get because I dont really know a whole lot about it or what I am going to like
  7. thanks for the info, money isnt really going to be an issue though, im planning on spending anywhere around $5000 - $7000
  8. Not all programs require tandems. If you still have your logbook it certainly will count if your preformance on the single tandem is acceptable. I dont think thats gonna work. I never had a logbook. It was just a weekend that a bunch of us decided that we wanted to go do it. The only thing we ended up getting was a little certificate thing
  9. I almost forgot I have one more question. I know that part of the program requires you to have 2 tandems before you can start aff. I did a tendem jump about 2 years ago, is it still possible for me to use that as one of them or do I have to start all over again?
  10. ok that sounds awesome, I cant wait till october/november so I can actually get started. Ive been wanting to do this for a very long time and soon I will actually have the money and be able to do it. Its all I can think about recently, I think im becoming a little obsessed lol
  11. Im a little confused, is there a difference between working on my "A" and student jumps?
  12. ok I called the dz about a week ago and I was told that it depended on me and I kinda got brushed aside a little I guess because of how long its gonna be until I am down there. Lets say I cant finish it before I leave for my deployment, can I finish at my local DZ instead of in suffolk? because when I get back my dz will be open and it would be a lot easier to do it there than going back down to suffolk
  13. ok, I thought it took more than that though, everywhere I looked ive seen that it takes most people anywhere from 25-30 jumps to get their uspa "A" license. Does anyone have anymore information on how this actually works? I have been looking around a lot online and I havent really been able to find out
  14. In the end of october I will be going to start my "A" License training and I have a few questions. My local DZ is closing in october so I cant do it there. I am however going to norfolk for a month for work and I was thinking about doing it at Skydive Suffolk. If I do not do it then I will have to wait until next summer. I am in the navy and I am deploying in march and im not sure how long I will be out and my DZ doesnt open until may of next year. So I was wondering if it is even possible for me to finish everything to get my A License in a months time?
  15. ok thanks, I have to wait a little bit before I can really talk to any instructors, Im not actually going till the end of october to start my training for my license. I'm in the navy and im reenlisting and my bonus is going to pay for everything but unfortunately I dont get it until the end of october.
  16. hello I am new to the sport and have posted a few times on here before. From my previous post about buying a rig I got some very usefull information and have decided not to buy one for a while. My question though is when I do go to buy my first rig I was wondering what the average price for a full used rig is? Like I said its going to be a long time before I buy it but im just trying to get a little bit of info right now.
  17. thank you everyone for all the great input. I am going to wait till I have some experience before I buy a full rig, but right now I am thinking about buying some basic equipment that I wont really need to change in the future, like a helmet, gloves, and that sort. I was wondering a few things, are there any specific altimiters(sp?) that anyone would recommend? Also I have noticed that in some of the videos I have been watching that a lot of people are wearing jump suits. Is this neccessary? and if you would recommend it are there any specific ones that would be better?
  18. sorry I dont really know much terminology right now, what is a 190 and a 170?
  19. Ive thought a lot about this and the one time I did go I abolutely loved it. This is something I have dreamed about doing my entire life and I am very serious about it. So yes I am going to buy my own rig. Im not saying that I want it for my certification im just saying that after I complete my certification I am going to be looking to buy my own rig but I want to start learning about it now and looking to see how much I want to spend and when
  20. Ok so I am new to skydiving. I had my first tandem about two years ago and fell in love with it but I have been so busy I havent been able to pursue it until now. Well I have to wait until may of next year to start my certification(in new england so the season is about to end). I am looking to buy my first skydiving rig and I am completely clueless as to what i should buy and what is good or not. If anyone has any information that might help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
