Just got the April issue of Fast Company (marketing magazine). In it is this great article on a lady named Cheryl Stearns, I'm sure alot of you know her, but being new to this sport, I've just now heard of her. Anyway you can read the article online here She's planning on a jump from 130k, and hoping to break the sound barrier. Enjoy, James

This is my 139th post and yet I'm the lowliest. I have jumped out of the same porter over the same cow pasture a mere nine times. Close to getting AFF behind me. I'm pretty damn thankful most of the users on this forum don't recognize me as a whuffo, I know my instructors don't. I posted one day about the quality of the individuals in this sport as opposed to the balance of everyone else and how that is one of the things that draws me to skydiving, that and and the thrill of leaving an airplane at 13k. I've had my bouts with billvon and quade over various things, but never on skydiving. When it comes to that, I just listen and learn. I enjoy the chit chat with them and other people that I personally look up to. I wish I had over 200 jumps, but one thing I know . . I will oneday. James

VEGETARIANISM . . . They're considered an 'ism? I never realized how prominent not eating animals is. I guess in rural areas you don't hear too much about it unless you go searching for it. People around here come out from miles for chili cook-offs and barbeques at the local firehall seemingly oblivious to the fact that they're eating the family and friends of the cows from the neighboring pasture. I liked the WWJE (what would jesus eat?) promotion on that site. Whats next . . . what would jesus wear? James

Growing up in a remote rural area of Texas, hunting and fishing is a part of life for many kids. I do it for sport now, but back then it was for food. My dad made arrangements with this man that owned a large pecan orchard that allowed us to go plug all the squirrels and rabbits we could. That doesn't sit well with alot of people, but if we didn't do that there'd be days where we wouldn't eat. I can't possibly imagine a diet without meat being in the majority. I believe everyone has a craving for meat whether they admit it or not. [Sam Elliot] BEEF . . it's what's for dinner. [/Sam Elliot] James

Don't get me wrong, I understand the risks of everyday life. My question is, in light of being accountable to three other people that I love more than anything, does the fact that I love skydiving justify adding a voluntary risk of this magnitude to my life? . . I don't know, but that's what I'm personally dealing with.

I'm really glad that you brought this subject up. I have a 3 yr old girl and an 18 month old boy and wonderful wife that I cannot get enough of. I'm presently not pursuing my licsence because of this concern. Someone earlier posted that if you can't come to grips with the fact that death is a mere seconds away, then this sport is probably not for you. I'm having trouble with that, personally. If I were single it wouldn't be a problem, but I entered this marraige for the long haul and we decided to raise a family together . That's what I'm having trouble getting past. Is it selfish of me to jump out of airplanes . . you bet it is. Do I really want to jump out of airplanes . . you bet I do. But should it be so important, that I'm willing to place a husband and a daddy in the face of that kind of risk . . . I honestly don't know, but I'm desperately working on it.

He said the fundamental difference between the two nations is that "the U.S. thinks Arafat is the problem, and we think Sharon is the problem." Sharon's actions constitute a real threat to peace in the region and could jeopardize relations between the United States and other Arab nations, Al-Jubeir said This is where Bush loses me. I understand the need for Saudi oil, so that kind of explains the kowtowing, however, Arafat is the problem, he's always been the problem and he'll always be the problem. No matter what the Israelies have done to appease the PLO, it's never good enough. I don't see the difference between our war on terror and Israels war on terror. Sharon is doing what needs to be done, Arafat has already shown the world that his talks are fruitless. Abdullah and the Saudis are no different from the other Arab states in that they want to bring about the dismantling of Israel. I'm drawing a blank on this one, myself.

Dan Aykroyd's "Out There" Paranormal Show Skydiver
james1010 replied to LawnDart21's topic in The Bonfire
There is a show on PAX called It's a Miracle hosted by John Boy (Richard thomas). One episode last week they showed a paraglider perform a stunt that wound up wrapping him up in his chute. The story was that he fell like this from about 5k . . he lived, however, his lower body is paralyzed. The show ended with him playing wheelchair basketball. -

Shiner Bock and Ziegen Bock are excellent Texas Beers, you see alot of it up here in Fort Worth. Miller Lite, however, is a bit too lite. Bud Light ain't bad. You should try and find "Texas Tornado", it's brewed at Great Grains Brewery in Dallas . . . not bad. Texans . . . they just rule!

The offspring of the woman that crushes the head of satan is Jesus. Forgive me for not getting to in depth, I'm at work. It's hard, I really want to offer you more insight. In the meantime, reference these verses in regard to Genesis 3:15. 1 John 3:7-8, 1 Cor. 15:24-28 James

The Old Testament is the history of the line through which Christ came all the way back to Adam. The first prophetic mention of Christ, in fact, is in Genesis 3:15. There are many wonderful refernces to salvation in the Old Testament. In fact most of the accounts are shadows of salvation. The Old Testament can can be said to be " The New testament Concealed". It's really a wonderful study when you get into it. James

I am a Bible believer, therefore my statements come from that standpoint. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that you most likely are not. In any case, the underlying current throughout the entire Bible is salvation through, and only through, the redemptive work of Christ and ones subsequent acceptance of Him. Living a good life won't do it, only through Christ comes salvation. This is extremely difficult for man to understand, primarily because he doesn't understand what is really involved here. The fact is, we are all sinners, and in God's eyes sin is sin, whether it's a little white lie or murder. Romans 3:23 says " For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." This is inclusive of everyone. Romans 6:23 goes onto say " For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ." You see, according to the Bible, the only way to escape the penalty for sin is Christ. Romans 10:9-10 shows us how to be saved: "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." It has nothing to do with how good you think you are or others think you are, what matters is have you accepted Gods Son and the price He paid for your salvation. That is what the Bible says, one either believes or doesn't believe. The difference in this case, and only this case, is that the Bible is (I believe) the inspired word of God. The writers were moved by the Spirit of God to write His words . . not thiers. James
