  1. The Greene County Atlanta Dropzone came to Georgia via Paul Fayard. He set up his first Greene County Atlanta Dropzone at Kelly's Field off Interstate 75 at the McDonough Exit. The Dropzone was located about 2 miles off the exit. The runway was about 2K feet. We started with one Green 180 and eventually had 3 180's. ( when we weren't crashing them in bad weather on the short runway). I made about 500 jumps at that DZ. The problem with that DZ is we were within the TCA and couldn't get about 7K feet( yeah right). It was at this DZ we were trying to get Georgia's first SCR(8way) from two 180's. Took us awhile but we finally got a 9way on July 4, 1972. Paul moved the DZ to Locust Grove, GA. That's what we called it. It was actually near a town called Jenkinsburg. It was still owned by Greene County, OH. and Jim West. It was at this DZ that Paul put together the 1973 4way National Championship team and then they would go on to win the first World Cup Championship of 4way at Ft. Bragg.N.C. Paul would eventually split from Greene County, OH and start Lewisburg later in 1974(?) I think. I moved to Humbolt, TN to work for Rocky Walker and Al Hawthorne at Aero Sports, Tn...I think Paul sold the Jenkinsburg, GA (Greene County Atlanta DZ to Jeff Saunders and he renamed it West Wind. Best I can remember. Steve Chalfant D-4969/SCS-397
  2. Thanks for the reply.. What year was that? Here's another picture from the same meet. This was the first time I ever saw a Para Plane. I jumped a Sled 3 years later without a reefing system. It open so hard it bent my belt buckle.
  3. I think this was the first Competition Jump on a Para Plane. Nashville Parachute Meet 1970 or 71. Steve brought 2 down and jumped them in the meet He had some guy from the Knights jumping one of them, I can't remember his name. Anybody jump this meet in 1970. It was in downtown Nashville..
  4. any body from Elsinore know this one? SFC. Heard it from Diane Forency.(SFC #1) She said a guy called Dirty Bill gave her this number. Diane was Jim Heydorn's girlfriend.
  5. I jumped a Sony AV-3400 Video Unit August 17, 1973. It was for some 30 way attempts in Sylvania Georgia.. Attempts being the proper word Terry McDonald had set up the camera on a regular Bell Helmet Side mount, the recorder was mounted to my Guardian piggy back on Front mounted D rings like a belly wort. I think Terry worked for UF and had it was on loan for some school related function. I remember Terry telling me "Please don't go in this thing costs a fortune." He really knew how to build confidence. This unit must have weighted 50lbs. I had borrowed the biggest jump suit I could find way to big to jump and when I put it on it had this huge cable coming out the back of the camera wound around inside my jumpsuit a couple of times then out a hole I cut for the recorder. But it worked which was a real surprise., well sort of. I was able to get about 5 or 10 seconds of good video before I went screaming by the formation and I mean i went so low that at break off the jumpers looked liked little ants tracking off. Scared the crap out of me. i didn't jump it much....Like never again..
  6. Good to hear from you. Jon. The hand sign was something Wilson and KenE started. They called it quippenshene or being bagged as some called it. Some secret society stuff dealing with trips to the pea gravel late at night. Who Knows. I saw Kempf at a party about 6 years ago at the old Control Tower of PDK. Not there's a guy with some Monroe Stories. Really hated for Beezy to go. Man I miss him. Doing some 8way at the Farm with some of the Geezers (affectionate term) from Elijay. Chalfant.
  7. I think the guy your talking about without the thumb was David Cartright. He went in on a demo at ASU or some college around their. The interesting part about that was it was filmed by a guy with a motorized camera and it made the center foid of the National Enquirer frame by frame. I thought sport death was everywhere in 1972. and wasn't Phillips one of the first guys to jump a Hog with Bird's All-Stars.
  8. I'm jumping at Skydive the Farm. Great place. We had Lee Garrard's Memorial today what a bummer. Too much weather for anything significant. We had to get out low and then the bottom fell out. It was still fun and always will be. Humboldt Hummer's Now their were some dead heads. Bungee Wallace. Capt. Weird. (mike chue), Jack Dead Man Morrison, Rocky Walker, Tommy Bullion, Billy Bahr, Mike Babineaux, Bud Germany when he wasn't flying, Bill Minyard, Al Hawthorne and Ray Hara Camera. Oh Yeah Me. They threathen to give me the axe all the time for pulling at 2k. Weird pulled at a Grand on every jump. Scared the crap out of all the golfers next door. The other team we had was just as bad as the Hummer's they were the Humboldt Express. Bill Brown and Ron Carter Dead Fred, Greg Giles, Frankie Pate. I can't remember all of them. Chalfant.
  9. Actually it's not my Photo. It was Bob Wilson's when he passed away his girlfirend gave it to Joe Pruitt and Bob's Family wanted to know who was in the photo so I sent it out looking for the degenerates in it. Something like that. I think ya'll found out most. But I think you left off Tom Rambo in the pop top. What about Frit. I pretty sure that's his old security rig. Did you notice the hand sign Fog and Wilson are giving. It's called the qippenshene sign. Don't ask. Talk bout some low puller's jeez those are the guys. .
