Not really as those are reactionary measures only. If you outlaw one business practice a similar and most likely worse one will take it's place until that one is otlawed and the cycle starts again. If you require financial transparaency, the financials will just become more complex until the complexity is regulated, then another method will be used. It's a shell game and the gov't will always be 2-3 moves behind. I'm sure at this very moment something far more dangerous than CDS and derivatives is being thought up to counter all of the new regulations and restrictions. The best move the gov't could make is stop trying to regulate and control by law and use monetary policy instead. If a behavior is deemed risky, don't ban it or support it. Just lessen it's allure by making it less profitable by not shouldering the risks and possibly putting a tax of some sort on it. the reason they need to regulate by law is because they can no longer enforce most laws. thanks to the left leaning judicial system that makes it almost imposible to convict anyone in criminal court. they can't even convict a terrorist of murder for suppliing the means to blow up inocent people.

If your car needs periodic oil changes, which is the better tactic if you don't have a lot of money: 1. don't change the oil becuase you don't have enough money for oil 2. change the oil because it will cost you an engine pretty soon So if (as an example) healthcare has been going up 15% per year, and its overall cost was 1 billion dollars (these are numbers I pulled out of the air for an example), then in 5 years healthcare would cost 1.077 billion. If you spend 5 million dollars to get healthcare to only go up 10% per year, then in 5 years healthcare would cost 1.051 billion. So in this case, by spending 5 million, you'd likely save 26 million if healthcare keeps growing at the same rate. Wendy P. If I have 10 dollars and I spend twenty I have a 10 deficit. if I now spend 40 my deficit doesn't go down does it? no it doesn't. the only way the deficit goes down is if spending goes down or income increases. therefore since the health care bill increases the numbers of people getting health care, the only way to reduce the deficit is to tax us more. and now many in the taxing area are getting exemptions (like the ones that backed Obama and helped form the law). This leaves us with an increase in deficit or really fucking the few that don't get a waiver. Perhaps you should ask the people YOU have voted for. National Debt in 1980 700 BILLION. Reagan BUSH1 and Bush2 took that to 11+ TRILLION Seems they did a pretty piss poor job of paying the bills in the Party of smaller goverment and supposed fiscal resonsibility. The original aim of TARP funds was to buy the toxic asset that came from the bundling of various investments (mostly mortgages) into secondary and tertiary vehicles that became impossible to track. Had banks and government been able to identify those, the money spent to acquire those vehicles would have been gone for ever. Because it was impossible to use these funds that way, a good portion of the TAPR funds were used to prop up the banking and auto industry by direct investment. TARP never was meant to be a loan. It was used as one. You can thank the guy who inherited the mess for doing so. last I heard half the tarp was used before Obama came in and it was a loan considering they were going to pay it back with interest.

I always keep one main concept in mind when interacting with Andy9o8, namely his profession, attorney at law. Attorney's make their living basically representing parties in breach of contract issues, implicit or explicit. In criminal law, the breach of contract is a violation. In civil law it is a dispute. In other words, they function in conflict resolution. By supporting big government, to the chagrin of the free market capitalist, the attorney's seek to perpetuate conflict and thus increase their potential for personal income, in the macro sense. You live in a particularly blue place so what you see there doesn't reflect the rest of the country. I think by 2012 time.. people will see the need to clean the cup out of the dregs in the bottom of the tea party cup for something a bit fresher if the rep's cut spending, extend the tax breaks for all, defund health care, and unemployment drops 2% the dem's will fall into nothing in 12. really isn't alot, just stop spending and most will happen on its own. blah blah blah blah.. cut spending blah blah blah blah... I agree with you to a certain point. Back in the day though. People were happy to come here and despite all the racism and hardships that they endured coming here. They embraced the American way of life and contributed. Made this country a better place. Doesn't seem to work that way anymore. Not all, but large portions of people come here today simply because they can get more for free then they can in the place they left. Really don't care about being an American and making this place better. No, not just back in the day. Now.
