Of course they can, and MANAGEMENT'S job is to make the best decision for the company, because THAT is what MANAGEMENT is paid to do. The union is NOT responsible for managing the company, that is the exclusive job of management. It is very hard to run a company when the employees are at the front gate picketing instead of working. I don't think management in those cases have much of a choice but to concede some of their demands or go broke waiting for the employees to change their minds. If MANAGEMENT has done such a piss-poor job of managing that the workforce decides to walk off the job, that is management's fault. You are very shortsighted if you believe this is the only reason unions strike. Reasons are irrelevant. Name me one US corporation whose incorporation documents give managerial responsibility to the unions and not to the board of directors. Name me one company that can afford to have the entire workforce survice a strike if they don't give something to bring them back to work?

In many ways I agree with you, but have you seen the unemployment rate lately? a gradual reduction of benifits will make them look harder for a job as time goes on -

when they get out of jail or when they are stabilized at a medical facility put them on a plane to mexico city and let them go, alot cheaper than paying for the continued health care or with more crimes they will be involed in, or the welfare they will collect, or the babies they will produce that will become dependant on our system. -
Because to many people think guns are bad and you should be able to talk your way out of the situation. Just supplying the crew with guns does not seem to be what's happening. AFAICT this is using a professional trained and armed security force. Seems like a good idea to me. I hope it doesn't just end up in an arms race with the pirates getting heavier weapons. This world has always been an arms race since the days of the caveman. The only way to stop it is to stop the money to the pirates or to eliminate the pirates.

Yep, along with completely eliminating earmarks 100%. If congress won't pass something by itself it shouldn't be barried in a bill to by a vote. -

In many ways I agree with you, but have you seen the unemployment rate lately? have you seen the want ads in the chicago area news papers? Why don't you tell us the ratio between the number of jobs available and the number of people looking for work, Mark. Well, Mark, since you appear not to know the answer (or don't wish to post it), there are, nationwide, 5.5 unemployed people for every job vacancy. The numbers are even worse in big cities like Chicago. So tell us again how these unemployed folks are going to get jobs. sorry, I was working unlike most of the lazy asshats collecting unemployment and government welfare. well John, If there is one job for every 5.5 people unemployed wich is 18% and there are 15.7 million unemployed, why are 2.83 million of them unemployed? Why because the government is taking care of them at the taxpayer expense. why work when you have a free ride through life? -
so in the last month a couple stories that show Obama negatively have shown up (only following other news agencies) I guess now we should trust them. they cover these stories only because they are looking bad and are loosing viewers. when was the last time they covered a story first that showed Obama negatively?
-
so I guess that you are saying Obama and those making laws and setting forign policy are not credible just like beck

all of them cut 20%, then maybe people would start to pay their own way. when you cut programs that make people dependant they learn to adjust and make things work on their own. -

Quote>Also we should cut entitlement programs . . . OK, list em. >and make people get jobs that have sucked welfare for over 2 years. We already do that. The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act ends any assistance after two years. reply] like thise one http://www.snopes.com/politics/satire/jasper.asp -
relying on msnbc and cnn isn't good because they won't report anything that would show negatively on Obama. we all know how acurate the internet is. so I say watch them all and sort it out yourself.

Likewise, it would appear that the girl is learning that there can be consequences for kicking a guy in the balls. I can't say I fear sorry for her. If her mom had a taser the cops would have been able to continue eating donuts.

I say sink their boat and let them swim back to shore. water cannon, machine guns, and / or running them over with your ship, they shouldn't be out farther than they can survive or swim.

so you are saying that entertainers can't give factual reports that could be used for information gathering?
-
In order to get good information you need to have several sources and Beck is one source. Beck has, on several occasions, caused the white house problems with factual reports.

to bad no one in washington cares about selling our kids into financial slavery. -
Like him or not he is entertaining to some. I think it is a mistake to dismiss everything he brings up as I feel there are some really credible stories he brings out and he is willing to go deep on issues that the rest of the media will not. I think joining fox news has changed him. I listen sometimes and he will get on my nerves but other times like this morning he was going through the healthcare bill. I believe Glenn Back has actually read it all unlike many of those who "represent" us in congress. he has read more of the bill than most in congress that will vote for it. that alone makes beck better to discuss or vote for the bill than congress.

If MANAGEMENT has done such a piss-poor job of managing that the workforce decides to walk off the job, that is management's fault. I have found that many times the union is the one being unreasonable with their demands and the company is put in a no win situation. When the mechanics union went on strike in chicago in the 90's, the people I knew that worked for a few dealers voted not to strike, but the majority of the union voted to strike. the cost of that strike cost 2 freinds their homes, and it took several years to make up lost wages. the dealers had to raise the labor rates 10-15 an hour to offset the pay and benifit increase. the mechanics were already getting pay above the local average for mechanics, with benifits that were better than the average. This strike cost millions in lost revenue and wages. what was the management to do? they already paid better than the average. How many dealers that did things right got caught up in the strike? what did they do wrong besides own a business that was in the strike area? were was the missmanagement ?

I think you're overreacting. Cops, even in the US, are humans, and sometimes they unprofessionally lose their temper and improperly act that temper out. When they get caught, they get nailed for it. This guy lost it, got caught and now he's getting nailed for it. End of story. Have you ever had to deal with an out of control 10-15 year old kid? have you ever had to deal with the limitations buy the police and society on what you are able to do to control a kids actions? I am sure we don't we don't have the entire story, but I have been put in situations with out of control kids and I can understand why she got tasered.

Obama didn't ruin California, but have we forgotten the type of Politics, namely Polosi's Politics, that the state is found on? The State needs to cut pet projects, plain and simple. Dig deep into the spending and you will see where it all went wrong. My Favorite is the millions spent on the hydrofoil that runs between San Diego and San Francisco designed to cut down on the traffic on I-5. In an effort to save money on the project it only runs at 10 am and 2 pm. What commuter would use that? How fuel efficient are boats again? Well thought out project. Last I heard someone grew a brain and killed it, finally. How about the $40,000 each year for 25 to life to keep non violent three-strikers in jail for third offenses like stealing videotapes? so you think we should let the criminals out of jail? the three strike rule (imo) would greatly reduce crime. removing it would give many a reason to continue to steal.
