So, the NY Times Compares President Obama Policy to...
marks2065 replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
both of these articles say to me that stimulus works until the money runs out. After the people are bankrupt the real problems begin. how will we repay the debt left by the overspending? how much wealth will be taken from the people before the programs are stopped? Wouldn't it be better to suck it now and deal with much smaller numbers? -

Does it suck any less if they were tailgating, eating a burger, applying makeup, or reading to the child (I in fact observed this last one)? -

In that case, do we also need to ban vehicle drivers from having conversations with passengers in the car while driving? Quotethis is a cnn news studywww.cnn.com/2009/TECH/02/16/cellphones.driving.safety/index.html -

Not really. The Earth's orbit has been fairly stable for hundreds of millions of years. Technically there are minor instabilities all throughout the solar system to Pluto that can ripple and technically have some minor effect, but Earth's orbit around the Sun is very stable.

QuoteIf you really want to reduce the risk you need to make all calls illegal when driving. It has been studied and found that the dialing and conversation (not holding the phone) is the distraction that needs to be iliminated. -
I see racism is still alive and kicking in the good ol' US of A. has nothing to do with race. her face looks like a monkeys, mainly in the cheeks. I don't care what color she is. although i guess you could say it was a little offensive to the primates.

Interesting. History of the USA, it{he} does not remember? Does not remember poor and hungry America of times of " great depression "? http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:MigrantMotherColorized_sm.jpg http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:FSA_school_in_Alabama.gif http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Public_Health_nursing.gif

Beats letting them all die.

Although I generally agree that reliance on foreign oil is bad, I'd like to point out that the most effective weapons ever used against the US by Middle Easterners were 19 box cutters available at Wal-Mart for $2 each.
-
If you believe buying foreign oil is a problem, then the answer is to declare a national emergency and insist our people contribute to the solution with more efficient cars, not whining about their boat they tow once a month. Our consumption is far too high to justify burning away all of our local supplies. Review what happened to Japan in the 30s and 40s. It would be precisely that situation for us.

>Should we just say goodbuy to every product that is produced by >another country? We do that every day at Wal-Mart! >so answer my question what option do you feel is the right one? Neither of your contrived options is any good, and if a company sees those two as the only options, they deserve to go the way of GM.
-
>Or i can reduce employee benifits and pay to offset the cost in order >to sell my product at the same price as my overseas compitition. or i can >skimp on quality of the product and down the road loose business >because I make an inferior product. What one do you pick Bill? I choose to make a product that no one has made before and thus there is no competition for. Once China starts copying them I'll make another one. That's my solution.

>Why should a business pay bills that they don't have to? Because if a business doesn't pay what it owes because no one is forcing them to, they are cheats and frauds and belong in bankruptcy court.
-
those were really way too easy and way too obvious. be careful - BV must have some master plan to just give you such and easy hand to play you also missed the whole "Republicans prefer that someone else's children do it" while under a Dem hyper-spending admin, but 3 of 4 isn't bad today's dems are just last year's dems - on steroids fixed it for you
-
>spending us into the next 2-3 generations is being responsible? No, it's not. We should raise taxes to match expenses. >Raising taxes to businesses and making the move to another country >look more profitable is being responsible? Yes, it is. It's called "paying your bills." Republicans prefer that someone else's children do it, but that doesn't make it a good solution.

Presumably by not being irresponsible about how the money is spent. Let's say you have a chunk of money for your personal use, say $100,000. Now, you have two options, you can, if you want, buy a shit load of guns and ammo, go to the range and shoot them off or . . . you can pay for your kid's college education. Both are spending and puts money in a variety of people's hands which further circulates and grows the economy. Which is the irresponsible choice?
