That's not what I'm reading, though it could all be lies. According to multiple sources in the news, he has had very cool relations with most of the old guard that has been implicated. Heck, one story I saw claimed that the Lt. Gov hasn't even talked to the crooked governor in about 2 years. (And there is nobody refuting that claim). My old home state also, and it's always been a pretty rough and tumble place politics-wise. I've seen no evidence (and you can bet there would be people screaming it from the highest mountain) that the President Elect has been any part of it. there may be no connection at all, but Obama has worked with these guys and was aided by these guys to get were he is now. I know that don't maake him bad, but is does put him in the circle.

I do hope he does a good job, but that doesn't mean he will. that doesn't mean he couldn't be corrupt or involved with the crap happening now.

It sure is fun being an observer in Chicago. The thing I find surprising isn't that Blago was crooked, it's that he was so brazenly stupid about it. Seeing some of the quotes from the tapes mentioned in the various articles, I was amazed by the sheer arrogance. "Ubi Est Mea" - unofficial Chicago motto according to late columnist Mike Royko. I would love to see what he would have written about this. Chicago politics have been corrupt for as long as i have been alive, unfortunately the rest of the country will possibly get a taste of it now. It takes a person of extremely good characture to rise through the corruption of the Chicago machine without becoming corrupt themselves. time will tell how much Obama is or is not involved with Blagojevich.

Exactly, No one ever said the sky was falling. I will predict though the far left will turn on him, followed by the media. I'm sure many will disagree with his Supreme Court picks, those may be the bones thrown to the left to slow down the whine-o-meter...... I see no basis for such predictions, just the slow steady beat of the conservative party trying to paint a picture of this country and Obama that fits their narrative for the next election. If it's repeated enough over the next 4 years I'm sure there will be people that believe stuff about which way he leans and which way the country leans after FoxNews repeats it enough. I tried counting the amount of times of "center-right" on Fox a few days back and lost track at 70 in one day. kinda like what the left has done for the last 8 years? Um. Obama isn't in the White House and won't be for over 5 weeks from now. Bush has been for the 8 years. We have plenty of direct examples to bring up. I guess you don't live in Illinois. I have lived Illinois politics, and Obama has been a part of that. Look what is going on now in Illinois, and Obama was brought up by the corrupt people in illinois you are hearing about in this state. Why should I wait until he is president? Obama and his acomplisis have been in my pockets for years.

not sure why anyone would actually read anything into articles like that - there are equally dozens of articles about GWB, alleging cocaine abuse, alcoholism, guiding the Whitehouse by the Bible, being a drunk, catering to his cronies, gutting the Constitution and generally being STUPID.... but no one paid any attention to those articles. i wasn't saying anything about the article other than I hope this is not the path Obama wants to take.

no no no the savior wouldn't have any corrupt people in his administration.(it's not like Obama wasn't brought up through ranks by these people)

QuoteJHC - he hasn't DONE anything yet - he's not even the fucking president yet, how can he possibly have done so much wrong already? I love this shit. The country elects an asshole, (Bush), let's him fuck up, RE-ELECTS him again so he can fuck up even more, and then they bash the new guy before he even gets into office? wow...... let's see in 4 years what everyone thinks of Obama, - at this point there is NO WAY he can do worse than what we have right now......... --------------------------------------------------- yes he can, he could cause the colapse of the united states, he could be responsible for many things worse than any other president in our history, lets hope he doesn't fuck anything up and does a good job. hope he doesn't do thishttp://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?pageId=78330

this is the second democrat in a few months that ran on a platform of "elect me i am not corrupt like my predicesor" seems to me both sides are corrupt. . Well, he may not be as corrupt as his predecessor. That still remains to be seen. I wonder if this will have any effect on the appeal to Bush for clemency for the predecessor (George Ryan, currently a guest at Club Fed). a few drivers licences compared to "pay me to get a state contract or senate seat" don't get me wrong, both are bad and Ryan's deal did cost some people their lives, but Blagojevich's may have cost some companies and their employees millions of dollars and or their jobs. selling a senate seat is putting coruption in congress. these 2 seam to be worse to me as far as the scope of what possibly did or could have happened. as far as clemancy goes, both should serve all of their sentences to completion. Indeed! What's a few lives when some money is at stake? Agreed that they should serve out their terms (if Blago is convicted, of course). I fail to see why pols (and their buddies) should get a break that other crooks don't get. I don't discount the imortance of a life, I feel it was a trajedy that happened from Ryan's scandel, but I feel the greater good of the country is more important in this case. The votes and influence of a crooked senator could have done alot of damage to our country and that could have caused alot more damage if allowed to happen.

Rest assured it is not HIM or any of his fellow travellers... they prefer for OTHERS who have actually volunteered for service to their country to do their dirty work. They will be the first to point out that the military is all volunteer and should be used to enrich those they support at the whim of those in power. you are correct, our military is volunteer, That is the great part of our Democracy. everyone has the right to follow their own way through life, some choose the military and some don't. I am very greatfull to those that do and very greatfull to those that use their choice to follow a different path, even the one that you chose. You being the opposite of me(in most cases) gives us balance. niether one of us is completely right or completely wrong and somewhere in the middle is what is good. So even though I don't see things your way, I welcome your thoughts because it is good for us as a hole. So you are correct in that I did not serve in the military and I agree with most of what has happened as far as the war goes, but that does not mean my contribution to the country is any less important than the one you make or my thoughts are any less or more important than yours.

once a quitter always a quitter. haha. just to defend Obama (i really can't believe i just said that) quitting smoking is hard, even more so if your married or dating.(o shit there i go again, now i've just pissed off the fairer sex) let him smoke, he has the toughest job in the world, hell let him smoke some pot that would be even better to keep him calm.
-
hey smooth top of the morning to ya. the thing that bothers me is that the other 49 states, through bad reporting, didn't have a chance to see illinois politics and there connection to Obama. but then again even illinois people don't care about that.

Quote it was not one man, it was sadam's entire governing body and his army and his family. what makes me the world police? nothing and nobody, just my opinion and that happens to be along the lines of the popular opinion that voted for war in Iraq.
-
False or not, the world is better off without Sadam. The news does not portray it, but the majority of people in Iraq are happy that we "liberated" them. They may or may not not agree with everything we have done, or how we accomplished it, nonetheless. Either way, my view from what I have seen and places I have been, is that the world is better off more now than before. Are the tens of thousands of dead Iraqis better off? How about the 4500 dead Americans? How about the taxpayers who will have shelled out $1 trillion before it's all over? The ends justify the means is a very dangerous argument. Quoteletting Sadam continue would have been worse, so the the ends DO justify the means. Sadam killed alot of people over his years in control, and alot more would have been killed if he had stayed in power. now I know you are going to say that us killing is no better than Sadam killing and that our soldiers would not have died, but think for a minute and tell me who would you rather still be alive? the good guys that sadam killed or the bad guys that we killed?

I am a hard rep and didn't like the outcome of the election or the partisin reporting that gave us little or no real information about Obama. the cabinet jobs (outside of clinton) i have been happier with than i thought I would be. Since we will have Obama as president, I am hoping he will be more financially responsible than clinton in his first 4 years or Bush in the last 4 years. we need to decrease gov spending by at least 20% and eliminate earmarks. the one major thing that hope will happen is that we will see health care reform without socialized health care. The bottom line is I hope Obama does such a good job that i will want to vote for him in 4 years.

Israel Preparing to Strike Iran Without U.S. Consent
marks2065 replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
Because Iran would not use Nuclear weapons much like every other country that has them. If Iran would use Nuclear weapons on Israel or any one it would be destroyed simple as that. If we can start to use words as a justification for violence and action it will be a very bloody world. Irans words are empty threats until they have the means to enforce them. Israel wants to prevent them from having those means. -
Israel Preparing to Strike Iran Without U.S. Consent
marks2065 replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
Like any other country they have the right to attack if they are attacked. Words are not enough of an excuse and preemptive strikes can not be justified. Actions, not words. Imagine if people reacted to GWB words. God, Holy war, axis of evil he has said a lot of stupid things as do all politicians who want to be elected and have a crazy base. I don’t think we have any moral ground to tell any nation they shouldn't have the same technologies or even weapons that we have. If they can make the technology what gives us the right to tell them they can not? Again other then what you see on FOX news Iran has no history of warmongering even with the current government. We are not the world police and most of the problems the world and we have right now is because we have been the world police. However the biggest problem is not us being the world police but being a hypocritical corrupt world cop who does not follow a set of standards but changes standards and applies there version of right and wrong on others as they see fit. Now answer mine Irans reaction should be "maybe we fucked up" but most likely will be one of retaliation of some sort. as far as Israel or any other country goes, if they know they are in danger, they would be stupid to wait until after the attack but should react before they are attacked. sometimes defense starts before not after the attack. Iran is talking about the complete elimination of israel not just taking out a military installation. if Iran gets an atomic bomb and uses it there will not be much left to defend in israel. under that thinking why would israel wait to retalliate? -
Dance , dance, dance. More intentional obtuseness from you. You know EXACTLY what was being discussed. But being honest and answering it would not allow you to rant, so you perform some convoluted twisty dance like normal. Sad...You might be fun to discuss if you didn't play so many BS games. Asking if Iraq 2008 is not as bad as Iraq 2004 is like asking if Charles Manson is not as bad as John Wayne Gacy. You can wriggle and squirm as much as you like, but the FACT remains that had Bush not lied to us, we wouldn't have any coalition fatalities at all, and Iraq's infrastructure would not have needed rebuilding. fixed it for you, since the support for the war was from both sides of congress and potus, using the same info provided, therefor the blood is on everybody's hand not just bush's. also pulling out and leaving the iraq people in a state of complete kayos would be criminal.

to bad you aren't helping make the choice. the last thing on the congress' mind these days seems to be the pay and bonuses for the exec's. why would any exec get a bonus for a failing company? why would they get a raise? why would limiting this area not be a top priority for any company getting even $1 of bailout money?

Israel Preparing to Strike Iran Without U.S. Consent
marks2065 replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
I ask you this. What should Iran’s reaction be to an attack? What do you expect will happen? What would we do if another military force decided to attack Losalamos laboratories because they think we are irresponsible with power or afraid of new power we might be working on? In my world words are never a good enough excuse to start wars, or to take lives, and I find people who talk about war or other peoples lives in such a casual matter disturbing. Usually what I find most disturbing is the same people who do not value others lives tend to only value certain lives that has value to them. lets back up a little, at what piont do you feel Israel should attack Iran? how far can Iran go before you feel Iran should be attacked? the problem is not with Iran have nuclear power, it is with them (under their currant leadership) having nuclear weapons. do you think they should be able to have them? -

Why? Why should we support a government that has violated more UN resolutions then Iraq, and practices apartheid? I honestly don’t get why billions of our tax dollars are going too Israel. why because they are our frinds, and deserve the right to exist, just like Iran deserves the right to exist. Iran does not have the right to eliminate Israel. -
i've been called scrooge at christmas time because i hate what people turn into this time of the year, therefore i try to avoid christmas and it's problems. My christmas is spending time with my daughters over dinner with some laughs and smiles. the rest of christmas i do without. i avoid the stores and the people that can't enjoy what this time of year is all about. for me christmas is the time to enjoy the company of loved ones and share in the things that make life worth living. the over comercialization of christmas has turn a once great holiday into a time of sarrow, grief and agrivation for many. remember, it is not what you buy but who you spend time with and share your life with that counts, to bad these people at walmart and other places have forgot that.

why not get the oil companies to buy into and bail out the auto industry? they have the money and the backing to do it. the oil companies also have a large corporate infrastructure to handle the task. also with incorperating the auto R&D departments they could use that to start switching to alternative fuels which would give the oil companies something for the future when oil consumption is replaced with the alternative.
