"Do u beleave in God" I believe in spell check. I believe there are things in the universe that have yet to be explained. We traditionally assign those things to one god or another. I am comfortable with the idea of God. I am not comfortable with anyone forcing their idea of what God wants and declaring it 'law' on me. Religion is like many other things. It can lead to great inspiration and propel the individual or group to the very best humanity has to offer. It can also go the other way. It has inspired our very best music, architecture, art, innovation, and kindness. It has also inspired many wars, murder, abuse, oppression, and people knocking on my door at hours I don't appreciate. I believe in God. I do not believe God conforms to any of the molds men attempt to place on Him/Her. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

I currently use the 7" tablet for that, but can use the Note as well. I was originally told on a motorcycle forum that I was crazy for mounting a GPS on my bike. Now, it is quite common. Go figure. There are plenty of commercial mounts available now. Handlebars, triple, and tank bag are primary suspects. Mind is mounted on the triple. The larger screen means my eyes are off the road a shorter period if I look at it. But I don't often look. I have it bluetooth connected to my helmet and I do what the nice lady tells me. I bought a bike my first time in England and rode it back to Belgium just based on what the nice lady told me to do...and listened to musice...and took pictures...and skyped / checked email at rest stops. I actually had someone post online that I was too stupid to own a motorcycle because of this. I'm really surprised there are so many nay-sayers here...amongst a group of people that jump out of airplanes... I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Weekend is over...here we go. The Note has a barometric sensor. That's why my initial post says it has a barometric sensor. The apps I have found use the GPS and barometer for accuracy. Just like any skydive altimeter, you turn it on at the DZ and it zeros for AGL measurements. The log app I found allows someone to sign. I haven't decided on mounting, but inside my forearm seems likely. It is better protected there and still handy. Someone claimed mounting on my arm might be an issue. Not sure why they sell all those wrist mounted alits, but ok. I'm not sure how some of you land, but my altimeter takes much less of a beating than my phone. My altimeter mounts on my wrist, so that's no change. The biggest change I see is the increased wind resistance of a larger screen. That's mitigate a little by the size of my forearms. I can't use the sport mount I got for my Note. It's supposed to go around my upper arm, but wouldn't fit. It fits my forearm. I'll test some to see if it is strong enough. I agree that my altimeters don't take up much space (use at least two and sometimes three (first post)). But a tour of my garage might help someone to understand: Helmets: motorcycle x4, rock climbing, skydiving x2, hang gliding x2 - there's a whole damn shelf... Electronics: GPS x2, tablet, phablet, cell, laptop, variometer x2, alit x3, dive computer, digital camera x2, intercom system Motorcycles: 4 + alternate seats, fairings, spare parts, manuals, etc. I'm exploring ways to consolidate. I'm selling off excess dive equipment and reducing my rig to minimalist. I'm selling off excess helmets and exploring one helmet for multiple sports. I'm looking to sell off excess electronics and consolidate where I can. I have no idea if the alti app will react fast enough for safe use. I'm willing to test it. I will not use it exclusively under any circumstances. Worst case would be the Note and the audible in my helmet. I've had my digital alti fail during a jump. If I am able to consolidate, there is a chance of losing, damaging the phone. But that's true of everything. Right now, I have maintenance issues because there is too much stuff to care for. Different batteries, different connections, different parameters of use. With the Note, I can back up files on the internet and have a quick replacement time. When my digital alti failed, I had to send it overseas and wait for the replacement. There are pros and cons. I'm trying to figure out where the scales land. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Pilot: "We're gonna ditch!" Passenger: "Time for video and selfies!"
davjohns replied to ryoder's topic in The Bonfire
Perfect! What the hell else is he going to do? Plus, he puts the lie to all those myths about 'perfectly good airplanes' and justifies jumping out while they're still in the air. This guy is a role model for skydivers everywhere! I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. I saw something funny lately that sounds like something I would do. It said, "Freak out your neighbors. Name your wifi 'FBI Surveillance Van'." I'm considering re-naming my wifi with something concerning NSA. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. Fair question. Larger display means I can read it a bit faster and easier. The biggest reason is convenience. Currently, I use an audible and digital...sometimes a mechanical...a few times, all three. I carry a cell phone in case I land out. If I combine the altimeter and cell phone, I reduce stuff I have to fuss with. More, though... 1. I am using my smart phone to replace my MP3 player and workout log in the gym. Toss the MP3 player and log. 2. I am using my smart phone as a radio, MP3 player, and GPS on my motorcycle. Toss a GPS. GPS in Jeep might go next. The radio in the Jeep is nervous. 3. I just disovered my smart phone has a barometer and there are variometer apps available. If they pan out, my smart phone may replace my GPS and variometer on my hang glider. Toss those. 4. I'm going to look for an app that allows me to replace my dive long. Skydive log might follow as well. Not sure how I would get people to sign off, but someone has probably figured it out. Toss a couple of books. If they make a smart phone waterproof that can replace my dive computer, I'll be interested. Basically, I'm just looking to reduce the stuff in my garage and house. It started with all the helmets. I'm trying to figure out if I can have one helmet for skydiving, hang gliding, and riding. It might not pan out. But it's worth exploring. You don't get very far by focusing on obstacles and assuming it can't be done. Just found the logbook with signing ability. I love google. http://www.dropzone.com/news/General/Top_Skydiving_Mobile_Apps_872.html I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. Just curious who has tried it and results. I just figured out that my Note has a barometer and there are apps out there for variometer. I already use it as a GPS on my motorcycle. I'm going to test it for hang gliding. I wonder if the altimeter can keep up for skydiving. I might test it. Have to find a way to secure it that I trust. Nope. One business had an in-house management conference and the your MBTI classification was on your name tag. I once worked for a Fortune 500 company and every couple of years some clown in management would come up with some new and trendy management theory and force the underlings to do questionable bullshit. I can completely see some jackass thinking MBTI on a name tag was a "good idea." Of course, I suppose so would an astrological sign. What's that called? Junk science? I find it an invasion of my privacy. I'm a ISTJ. No it’s called padding your resume. In some companies they promote by the weight of your personal file. I saw a guy go from Firefighter to Capt. in 4 months with some hair brain idea. What bothered me the most was the bubble head Chief we had at the time bought into it. Sparky You're right. I've seen the most kiss ass, BS, unoriginal ideas get pushed along to fruition because they played on management's ego. I hate kiss asses. Have a freaking spine and an original thought once in a while. You will be chagrine to know that I did it as part of a team building exercise when I was with Space and Missile Defense Command (not my choice). People put the little signs up on their cubicles thereafter. The idea was that you would see how someone else is programmed and adjust how you interact with them to get the desired result. Someone put the sign on my office without my consent. I made up a new sign. It said I was an SIUC. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. Say what you want to me. You have to use a long, sharp bayonet to hurt my feelings. What's the quote? Nobody can insult you without your permission? Nobody has my permission. Now, if you're just asking me to punch your lights out, I will not deny you the pleasure. But that doesn't mean I'm insulted. It just means there are natural, logical consequences to your actions. And I love you enough to not deprive you of them. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. You de-select which of your friends' posts show up on your page. That can be useful. I use it to stay in touch with people far away. But I have a rule about posting on the internet. I post everything with the assumption that it will appear on every computer in the world eventually. I don't have the embarassing situations some others have because I follow that rule. Says the person that won't come to my boogie. I ain't 'fraid no rednecks. Prove it. Dude, I can't jump. That won’t be a problem….you sit real still and I’ll do the jumping. Sparky Aaaaand, Sparky goes on karen's list of 'Afraid to meet'... Nah, everyone here in Bonfire is good. I love the diversity of everyone's sense of humor, knowledge and kindheartedness. Who from dropzone.com would you be most AFRAID to meet?

He stayed at my house for a long weekend a few years ago when he came to Cross Keys for Freezefest. He's good but he travels with a suitcase full of thongs and huge, lucite, skyhigh hooker heels. He's a very nice houseguest. I think you'd be safe. Did you read the first part of what you wrote before writing the last line? CNN is playing in my office. Not sure what this is about. The stuff they have shown is texts between two aids making fun of a traffic jam. It appears to be suggested that they somehow caused it for political reasons. What CNN showed didn't actually indicate causation of any sort. Just some jokes about it. I saw a small script at the bottom of the screen that said there is no evidence Christie was involved. I presume Christie is a republican since Pierce Morgan has composed a panel to talk about Christie and hang it on his neck. Is there any actual evidence of wrong-doing? Anything that indicates Christie knew about it? If there is, CNN hasn't shown it. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. I can't quite agree with either one. Quote A: We have third and fourth generation welfare recipients in the US. What are they transitioning from and too? Quote B: Liberal politicians might be happy buying votes by providing a hammock. But I think the average liberal just wants to make sure nobody is forgotten / those who need get what they need. The trick is making the system efficient enough to cover those who need without covering those who just want. Conservatives advocate cutting the money to force efficiency and pretend nobody will get left out in the process. Liberals advocate providing more money to make sure everyone is covered and pretend those who are milking the system aren't really stealing taxpayer money with government help. Both use the fringe to support their argument. Yes, there are those who are deserving and are slipping through the cracks. Yes, there are those who are milking the system and slipping through the cracks. Nobody really knows what the numbers are, but they still have their opinions. Nobody is actually trying to make the system more efficient or quantify the problems. That wouldn't get as many votes. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. I'd like to meet so many from here. But there are a few I would like to meet after having a while to follow them with a video camera first...especially at a boogie after dark... Billy, Bolas, ... Am I the only one who thinks 'sock puppet' sound perverted? Afraid to meet? 1. Have you SEEN Billy's thread? ( Just kidding, Billy) 2. There's that guy who was such an articulate advocate of diving without a canopy recently. 3. I don't think I would be afraid to meet Shah, but I would have an escape plan. 4. Not sure I would go to sleep around Bolas. No telling what compromising position I might wake up in while he films the whole thing and laughs. Afraid is a strong term. I don't experience fear much. Trepidation, concern, anxiety...there are a few here that I wouldn't go to sleep around. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..
