Paul, When you respond like this...politically, you need to ask Sangiro to remove the "greenie" jacket. Even though this may be the talkback forum, you represent the forum in an official fashion... This can have implications on revenue from advertisers. I think that this forum is primarily funded by advertising. I do not agree with any posts made. I am a manufacturer that spends money here to advertise. Because I try to sell my products to everyone here, I refrain from responding in controversial topics... (I don't want to piss off anyone.) I simply ask that you (and Sangiro) remove your "green" badge when you make comments that are not supporting your status as "moderator". As an aside, I completely disagree with your thoughts on this topic. Chris Martin Precision Aerodynamics chris@NOSPAMprecision.net 423-949-4688

There's your answer... NO. Riggers use technical terms for describing "tight" reserve packjobs... cramming, forcing, packing fudge... (no, wait... I think that's a different reference.) The containers are test dropped by the container manufacturers. They know what will meet the deployment requirements... go with their numbers. (Or, don't be afraid to loose fingernails in the reserve container as you try to scratch the damn thing open at 500'.) Consider the concept of banking. I really don't mean to be rude, but too many people are soley concerned with small, with zero consideration for function... The 7 cell 0-3cfm canopy (reserve) will not perform like the 0-p elliptical canopy in 120 sq. ft. (or as well as the same in 97 sq. ft.) At 120 lbs, your exit weight is ~140 lbs., at 231 jumps (from your profile, I know... it hasn't been updated recently and you now have 1000 jumps), you have far more risk flying this type of canopy into the small backyard that the low deployment/bad spot left you. You NEVER need to hurry into next year's purchase... put the money in a bank, sleep on your decision overnight. Sincerely, Chris

Tell David I said Hello... Nice guy! Chris

Actually, I ...think... the protrack showed an exit altitude of something like 6400'... meaning it started over... it was borrowed from a friend (before I owned one) and I did not know how to use it or download to jumptrack.... All I know was that it did not read the obvious time... I do think that I got the exit altitude from it though... later... I seem to recall that he called me later saying that there was a jump listed on there from 23,800. Not sure about any information from that jump... but I've owned one for about a year (with Jump-Track) and I kept getting pissed when I couldn't break the 119 second time barrier. (No, I still haven't read the manual... Have you?) WHEN WILL SOMEONE OFFER SOMETHING THAT WILL RECORD LONGER! Chris

entirely true story...

here's one most here may not have heard... "chest Fever"... three dog night... shit am I giving away my age?

does a neptune count more than 119 seconds... I did a wingsuit from 24000 and read 57 seconds on the protrack... The tandem, open at 5000' was on final to land as I deployed... wingsuits for sure... high altitude... Chris

When I met her, she wasn't a skychick... she was sitting across from me on a DC-3, getting ready to be a skychick... and there I was hauling her big-ass boyfriend. She was terrified. Her Tandem instructor was falling asleep. Her boyfriend wouldn't shut-up... kept telling me he wasn't skeer'd... (We all know what that means.) I sat there feeling for and falling in love with this beautiful creature, (while trying to entertain my tandem student...) We got to altitude too soon, we all jumped, she hated the experience, her boyfriend loved it... (I made sure he would, he had to come back...with her!) He completed AFF, became a very good skydiver and a very good friend. Since that time, she made a second jump, hated it even more. Broke up with the boyfriend and married me. We celebrated our daughter's first birthday 2 days ago. She makes me happier than I've ever been. I love you Kristi! Very recently, she commented that she could see how I love skydiving and asked if I would take her for a Tandem, (I have never asked her if she wanted to try it again.) We had a great skydive, and as soon as she landed, her first words were, "The next one is gonna be nekkid!" Wow, we met almost 5 years ago... seems like yesterday. Chris

We always land in the student landing area, (I just wish our students did too!).. I like to pack right there by the target. By the time the student lands, I'm half packed, finish and complete the debrief on the walk back... take his logbook up on the next load, fill it out in the plane, land and repeat the process... makes for more efficient flow. It always pisses me off, though when I land in the student landing area and the student lands in the experienced area, drops his gear and wanders off somewhere before I can walk all the way back... Land where your instructor lands... sometimes in an off dz landing, he's showing you a "better" landing area. Chris

Did you say something Doug? I actually don't wear a helmet when Bird-Manning... I like to hear "slow". I kinda tune my flight by sound... I wear a helmet on every other skydive I make... if ya can legitimately call a frap-hat a helmet. I blame my hearing loss on years of flying Twin Bonanzas... (not to mention the music in the 70's and 80's) Chris

Actually, I' ve seen both fabrics... Gelvanor (south African) and Performance Textiles Soar Coat (American) still going strong with over 3000 jumps each. With respect to pack volume. The Soar coat packs considerably smaller... Nitro 120 (Gelvanor) 394 cu. in. vs. Nitron 120 (Perf-tex) 349 cu.in. Chris (The talk of premature wear on Gelvanor was started by a manufacturer that was using American fabric competing againts the S.A. built canopies. Not true from my experience... also a competitor of S.A. built canopies.)

How much do AFF instructors get paid?
GroundZero replied to Hazarrd's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
better yet... the entire price breakdown... Aff Level one... $285.00 less $40 per head ground training... less $60 ($30 each jumpmaster) less $57.69 airlift (my average cost for ac/person at 19.23/head... I charge $19.00 for exp. jumpers) less $10 per jump amortization gear... equals~$100 gross profit... (now, subtract phones, insurance, rent, office staff, taxes, etc.... AFF Level 2... $165.00 less $60 ($30 each jumpmaster) less $57.69 airlift (my average cost for ac/person at 19.23/head... I charge $19.00 for exp. jumpers) less $10 per jump amortization gear... equals~$35.00 gross profit... (subtract phones, insurance, rent, office staff, taxes, etc.... Be sure to tip your instructors, and support your local dz! We count on you introducing your friends to the sport to stay alive... Chris -
How much do AFF instructors get paid?
GroundZero replied to Hazarrd's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
at my dz... $30 each... Do you think you're getting a deal... Who else does that much work, with that much risk for such little pay... I think I need to raise the Aff Level One to $1000 and pay the instructors the $500 they deserve. Chris ps... I'm an AFF I too. I know it's tough and I need a raise too... -

Or is it possible that the kids are mature enough to skydive (or handle some task of equal nature) and perhaps, we are not able to recognize it? Chris I keep holding my baby's hand, because I'm afraid she may fall and bump her head.
