Memorial Day weekend... Same as before ...Westwind Beech! Free Beer! etc... But we're gathering quite a collection of Televisions to toss... If you've never seen a TV go in at Terminal, you won't believe it... Seems there were a few old monochrome monitors laying around at work... Boss says they got to go, so I've loaded 'em up and to the dz we go... Already had a nice 20" color model... (the bigger the better!) I have a feeling that the porcelin Toilet (Yellow for better visibility!) will be the highlight of the toss... we do have a concrete impact point (accuracy is important here folks...). Get out Saturday, Sunday and Monday... Jump the Westwind, toss a tv or toilet, drink lots of free beer. Chris Tennessee Skydiving Center, Inc. better yet... pack it yourself.... Any rigger out there would prefer to teach you how to pack your own rig... Chris

Mikeal jumping his canopy... very very very close but no cigar...yet. We both agree it looks very do-able, but we were more surprised how we remained "relative" through a 180 degree turn... so I'm thinking not only could we get a dock, but release and then let him front riser below for another dock on the same jump. You know make it a 2-point jump... To make it even easier, we were thinking of letting Jeffrey Mullins jump the 53. (he's about 15 -20 pounds heavier...) Not yet... but give it some time... we need to plan to make a day of attempts, but he's on the other side of the state... we'll get together sometime... if only I didn't have to do this "work" thing... Chris

i knew that would be the first question... No but we plan to document it in the future... I can see the problems with video... I think the best video would be from telemeters...

here we go again bear with me... Chris

doh! forgot the graph...... too big... give me a minute to scale it down...

After about 500 Bird-Man jumps, someone let me borrow a Pro-track... well after 3 jumps with it... I bought one (and the jump-track too). So here is a flight with my Skyflyer doing 2 way with a Xaos21-53. We are flying pretty relative... even with a 180 degree turn in there... Yea I know Jari and Vladi have already docked.... but has anyone done 2 points yet? Chris (Thanks for the assistance Craig!)

Early news accounts of the collision made comments that they were going to stop doing the diamond track... then even more recently I've heard the press report that they have stopped doing them... Blame it on the sensationalistic press...

toilet/tv toss weekend in Tullahoma
GroundZero replied to GroundZero's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Memorial Day Weekend... and guess what...I'm remodeling the bathroom... seems I have an extra toilet. We'll make this a "toss" weekend. We also have that old tv from the video room. If you have anything you'd like to toss, bring it our this weekend. As usual, Westwind Beech, great jumps and lot's of free beer at nite. (who knows, maybe we'll turn on the beer lite a bit earlier to prep for the "tossing"!) Chris Tennessee Skydiving Center http://tennskydive.com jump@tennskydive.com -
Golden Knights doing diamond tracks with Bird-Man suits... what exposure, what a show!! Get on that Chuck... What a crowd pleaser! Hey, that gives me an idea... they have a slot in our airshow in Tullahoma in June... maybe I could upstage them by doing a birdman diamond track before they do their part of the show.... hehehehe.. Who knows where i can get 2-minute smoke? or let's see... maybe a longer lanyard to fire the second can at the turn (2 different color diamond track... oh the possibilities!!).... oh this is gonna be good!!!! hehehehe! Chris Shame 'em into getting suits and perfecting it before I do it... the airshow in Tullahoma is June 21 and 22... Chuck, Let 'em know my plans to upstage 'em if they don't get to work on it right away... Bwahahaha....

But Chuck... they got it! We Bird-men (and Babes) have now attracted more attention (see thread and post numbers for the forums), than the RW forum. Now don't get me wrong. I am an RW kinda guy.... just a few years ago, if it wasn't 4-way, i was wasting expensive 100LL taking up a space on the airplane. But then something happened. Someone turned me onto a wingsuit.... It was pretty funny... a friend, sent me his Classic... I'd never seen one before. There I was, standing on the deck at the DZ, wearing the borrowed suit. All the arms and legs zipped up, trying to pull my rig over this funky suit. The leg straps not long enuf to go over those long leg wings... Since then, I've only visited my old love (rw) once or twice. I fell into the dark... no... the BLUE side of skydiving. It looks like a lot of other people have taken an interest in "flying". Here's a salute and beer to all the others here that have shown more interest in Bird-Manning than RW and CRW... don't get me wrong... I love rw and crw both, but look at the interest here! Salude! Chris

"...most canopies - he described are like Bikes (which I ride), 90% of it is being on the bike and enjoying that and 10% is what bike it is." Very well said...I think that applies to all forms of skydiving as well.....

Go for it... if it is a good price... seems like it will be appropriate for you. move this quote (below, in quotation marks) to a few other forums... it is quite good... and also appropriate. As more and more information becomes available...thankyou internet, people quit thinking and only read... use your brain and soul to skydive... It has worked for many years past and probably works very well today, if implemented. What does RAM air stand for?
GroundZero replied to NoShitThereIWas's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Very few people in the sport are aware of the actual meaning of the acronym R.A.M. in ram air... As the air hits the leading edge of a square parachute with openings in the leading edge, something happens that was never seen in solid leading edge airfoils. The air is almost vibrated inward and outward at the openings. This causes the air molecules to be spaced somewhat further apart than normal at the same pressure/temperature. This process, in the earliest days of squares, was given the dubious name of "rarified air molecules", ergo r.a.m.... Over the years since, most jumpers have failed to understand the concept and the entire principle of rarified air molecules has simply become a joke due to ignorance of the principle. So yes, R.A.M. does have a meaning. This phenomenon actually is the reason your canopy remains inflated. Without this air escaping through the leading edge, your nose would simply cave in and your canopy would deflate. More on this rarified air principle can be found in the patent claims of the earliest designers... Jalbert, Snyder, Strong, etc... Chris a.j.m.f. -
I think I can speak for Chuck too.... We always get excited when we see you!! Kisses, Chris
