Raleigh/Durham, NC (RDU) on Christmas Eve forced me to check my rig after an extended discussion with every TSA on site. Problem was that the senior TSA didn't have a clue what a CYPRESS was and was concerned about the mythical 'compressed gas' cylinder inside. Standing there in my stocking feet and holding up my pants (belt was suspect) trying does not give one a position of advantage from which to debate! Finally gave up and checked it to make my flight. Comming home had no problem at all with security at Kansas City International (MCI). Waved at the TSA folks back in RDU walking out with my gear bag on the way out the exit. Point is, it appears the airports as well as the airlines need more information (RDU has a single entry point whereas MCI has individual gate scanners). I checked out the formats for the letters folks have been sending to Delta and will write my own to both airports in appreciation for their assitance in making my trip a memorable one. Neuman winter sports gloves for about $35 or Isotoner winter gloves (with the suade grips) for about $20 provide good tactile sensation and secure grip. If you can pick up a quarter with the gloves, they should work well for jumping. Always try and see how the new gear feels before using it on a jump (PRCPs on the ground). We use the large chem lights on night jumps, but use gaffers or duct tape to block out all of the light except for a small slit to illuminate the face of teh altimeter. It is then taped over the face of the altimeter resting over the high altitudes, but lighting the 6000' to 0'(2000m-0m) very well. The beacon strobe is usually strapped or taped to the lower leg or gaffer tapped to the top of the helmet (good for overall visual observation and for checking the canopy).
