I've had the honor of working with some WWII vets who jumped into Normandy. Took the refresher training very well, but to their credit had maintained themselves in very good condition for their age. Running amock in caves doesn't take much more tha a flashlight and a plan for simple short looks underground. If ya want to get deep into it, ye really need to get in with a group of experienced folks. The park service should be able to point you in the right direction as well as let you know the local caves which are safe for crawlin about and the ones with hazards or endanged species (think the ol' flyin mice) that you should/must leave alone.
