I had abdominal surgery in January. I waited a month longer than the doctor said to, so I was out for 12 weeks. I wanted to be able to do any and all other physical activities that I did before the surgery, like crunchies, cycling, hiking. It just seemed illogical to push the limits, when an early return could mean more months out and increased scar tissue, pain, medication and all that. I have a particularly fond memory from a 4-way RW jump this summer. We turned for a point, and lost two of the team. I don't remember exactly what happened, but in one look, my team mate said 'Whatever the hell just happened, it was going so well, looks like like it's just us now, any idea where they are? Guess we'll just hang here and wait, lets present so they can take grips if they come back, oh well shit happens.' One moment of eye contact. It was a great moment. Improving my skills. My home dz is very small, with few senior jumpers. Coaching, learning new skills, and pushing my knowledge has always been a challenge. Initially, I went to boogies and skills camps. This last year, I got on a 4-way team. Now I find myself one of the senior jumpers at home, which is preposterous because every day I see just how much I don't know. So I'm moving and will live near bigger, better dz's where there are people much more knowledgeable and skilled than me. My other big challenge is finding the patience to wait for my new rig. I'm going nuts knowing it's so close, but not quite in my eager hands yet. Soon, so very soon... Adrenaline withdrawl hits me hard after a good weekend, and even harder after a boogie. It feels a lot like PMS. A day or two afterward, I get bitchy and sour and anti-social, I don't want to deal with the normal stuff I just want back in the air. It's best to keep me away from people for a few days. I treat it like PMS; I take St Johns Wort for my moodiness and bite my tongue when I want to snap at people. I find that the best treatment is a mid-week evening jump. Hail sucks. Planning a two-way sit. The odd cloud around, but nothing in our way. We had no idea what waited below... About 8000ft we hit hail. Our sits turned into canonballs as we both tried to reduce our surface exposure and protect our faces. It lasted about 3500ft, we slowed down, tracked, dumped and landed. From above you couldn't see it. From below you couldn't see it. But one look at our skin, mottled and raw (my jump buddy was in shorts) and there was no question. For days, I looked like someone took a meat tenderizer to parts of my legs and arms. No one else hit it. Just us. No fun. Snow? Been pelted by that while on the strut at the bottom edge of winter clouds. Not nice, makes me wish I had a full face helmet. Thanks! If you know those blokes personally, tell them they did a great job! They impressed my whuffo friends too. I've already had people asking me how they did that. Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein

If you aren't watching it live, catch the replay! During the ceremony - about an hour in - there's a nice 5 minutes or so of open air tunnel flying. The flying was great to watch. Does anyone know who participated? They flew a tube over in the middle of the stadium! Very nice! ditto. I love doing H&P, but unless I'm seriously jonesin' for air and the clouds are low, I'm not into paying that much for 3500 feet. On the other hand, in warm weather I will pass up all other kinds of jumps for a 10,000 foot H&P. Hang out in the sky, watch the clouds, scream and shout and sing.

Yeah. And I think I'll keep my odd goods. Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein

I am my husband's packing bytch. I don't mind. I like packing. Besides, it can be painful to watch him pack. As one of the four regular female jumpers at my home dz, I've had a thing or two to say to some of the guys when they cross the line. I'd really like to have a couple more girls stay and go through their progression, not be scared off by horny guys. As for the original issue, if a guy doesn't like the way other guys act around the gals, don't play the game. Ever. Other than that... if you want to bring a girl out to the dz but are worried about the 'reception', warn her to wear her thick skin, and to stand up to anyone who gets innappropriate. ...'the goods are a little odd'... I'll say... Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein

Amy! Sending you vibes (cause I do do the vibes thing) and lots of well wishes from my little corner of the world! Take it easy and heal up well! See you then! Good timing, I'll be paying off my beer debt that weekend Thanks for the offer Jim. I'm only 5'4" so it's probably way too big. I've put birdman pictures up on my desktop, and I keep staring at them with a funny grin on my face.

Oh YEAH! Did my first two wingsuit jumps on Saturday. I can't wipe this grin off my face. I want to do more. Lots and lots more. Time to start saving my $ for my own wingsuit.

Regardless of when you move to wearing a full face, just make sure you demo the different brands before you put $ on the line. What looks good doesn't always fit good. I tried a bunch of different helmets before choosing one, and it was a good thing. I hated how some of them fit. Have fun in Florida! It's almost here! Who all is coming to play? The current weather forecast is looking good, fingers crossed that it stays that way. Love that Otter...

My Falcon opens 'brisk' every time. To slow it down, when I quarter the slider I expose as much slider as possible past the nose, while keeping it properly quartered. I also keep short elastics on the stows - though not the locking stows - to slow down the line stretch. And I roll the snot out of the nose and tail. Now I'm trying to figure out how to speed up my Safire. Happy packing Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein

Any disadvantages to Birdman Pantz while belly flying?
Snowbird replied to HydroGuy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
There's a gal here at home who wears her Pantz for everything. The only disadvantage is in belly RW. It's a bitch to take a grip on her! Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein -
Thanks for sharing! I love hearing/reading the excited accounts from new jumpers. And there is so much more to come! Your account is very well written, a joy to read. Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein

Okay, my office sounds pretty good now! BUT I could with a bigger desk. It's itty bitty. I mean, it's a kid sized desk, too low, not nearly enough room to spread out. And thankfully, the bathroom is in the back corner, far far away. Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein

Yeah, I've had a dream like that for years. I was in high school when it started. I push off the ground, float up, drifting with not much speed. I can do manouvers and stuff, then slowly descend and touch down on my feet. It's a wonderful dream. I've had flying dreams for as long as I can remember. They're great dreams, but in them I'm always worried about hitting power lines. Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein

When I get back from Eloy, I'm always in full bitch mode for a week. Must be the lack of endorphins and adrenaline afterward, or something. It's worse than PMS. But what a way to get into a bad mood! Apparently Paige Davis does this as well. In her case, since the teams can't know what's going on in their own home, she has spare clothes in case she gets paint or something on one set. She can change before going to the other home, and no one is the wiser about colours and materials being used. UNpacked? I'm just getting everything ready! After sitting at home in the snow and cold wishing I was there, now I get to be there while everyone else unpacks! My gear is ready to go, most of my clothes and stuff are packed, just the last minute things to put in my carry-on. By the time I get there, the weather should be warm and lovely! Counting the days? Heck, I'm counting hours!

How far have you driven to a boogie
Snowbird replied to pa2themd's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Last year we drove to Eloy. 32 hours each way. We drove almost non-stop, split the time between three of us, slept in the car on the move. Not nearly as painful as it sounds. It was nice to be mobile while we were there, went to Tuscon and Grand Canyon and Casa Grande National Monument. Great trip!
