Ooh, just 2? Hmmmmmmm. Jump #24 First jump on my own canopy. Also my first jump off of student status. Had a sweet, simple freefall, pulled, and when I looked up at that beautiful canopy I was blown away by it all. And then I did my control tests, turned 180o and was sitting in the middle of these sensational godsrays, all golden and brilliant errupting from the clouds. And I was in the middle of it. WOW WOW WOW -
How many people out there have gotten good freefly coaching? I'm just learning yet, and have tried to plan my jumping around receiving good coaching. I don't like having to un-learn my mistakes and bad habits. Sky or tunnel? I live in BC. Tunnel? I wish... Did they video your landings and give your proper canopy coaching also? Not during freefly coach jumps. Those focused on just the jump. Did they pre, and debrief you? Yes How was their camera framing? Usually great. On one coach jump, the video was poor, and he didn't charge me for the jump. Did they coach you on the pattern? No How about seperation? Some, depends on the jump. Would you get coaching in the future? Absolutely! I'll take it at every opportunity. I learn so much on coach jumps, they're invaluable to my learning curve. It's wishful thinking, actually. I used to chuckle at people who lived in Canada all summer, then went south - like 'Snowbirds' - in the winter. I used to like winter. Now I want to go south all winter, chase the good weather, jump all year, be a Snowbird like the people I used to laugh at. My real nickname is just T, but there's already a Tee signed up so it would've been confusing. My first true out landing was on a golf course. Nice soft landing area, plenty of room, pleasant walk back... I worked at a golf course one summer. We had 2, one I chose for him, and one he chose for me. For him, I picked 'Battle Hymn of Love' by Kathy Mattaea (sp?) For me, he chose 'Lady' by Kenny Rogers. Our last dance of the night was to 'Perhaps Love' by Placidio Domingo. The best choice, though, was the father and bride dance. It was 'Whistling Gypsy', the lullaby my daddy sang and whistled to me when I was wee. I made my daddy cry. The first year I started jumping, going through my student progression and working on my A license, nothing else existed. All my energy and attention was on skydiving. No balance with 'other' interests at all. The second year, I chose to make skydiving a priority. But, I began to bring other things into my life again, including writing which had been my passion before skydiving. I was happy with that balance. This year, I'm writing constantly again, planning my garden... doing all the things I love most. Skydiving is still a priority, but I have the mental and emotional space to blend everything back into a nice balance. A bunch of things got put on the backburner for awhile, but it was always good!
