    PLF Practice

Awww! She's a sweetie Scott! Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein
  2. Yup. What they said. This thread is making me want to find a new dojo, get back in the mix. My preferred dojo closed awhile back, haven't trained since then and I MISS it! Whatever you decide to do, enjoy! The time I've spent training is some of the best ever. I learned so much from training, and not all of it was about self-defence. 3. "It's a little known fact..." When making french fries, use a potato low in starch, such as a Kenebeck, to prevent foaming oil. The little bit of stem left on top of a tomato is called the kaylix. Black Widow spider silk is stronger than steel. 4. A bit, yes. I was allowed wine on special occasions after I was 15 or so. My older brother spiked my pop once, that was the first time I got tipsy, at about 14. And I liked coolers
  5. My vote goes along with what lots of others are saying. I'm partial to jiu-jitsu. Brazillian can have a lot of competition focus, but if you don't want to compete it shouldn't be a problem. I took Bissett jiu-jitsu, which has sparring but no competition. Done properly, your opponent doesn't always get back up in one piece. One other thing that I haven't seen said here. You only get out of it what you put in. Regardless of which school you choose, if you want to really learn it, you need to dedicate a fair amount of time and practice. It needs to be muscle memory, no stopping to think about what the sensei said to do. And remember, your best defense is to not get into the situation in the first place, if it can be at all avoided. 6. I went through that list last year when there were wildfires everywhere. Didn't have to evacuate, but I decided what to take. Pets of course My important legal papers and stuff Sentimental stuff like pictures, jewelry, and my wedding dress Gear Hard and paper copies of my writing Hard drive One thing, thinking about it made me realise that I was keeping all my important papers and documents in too many places. I've since gathered them, and keep them together, easy to grab. I know too many people who had ten minutes to evacuate, and lost everything. Tipping

The whole 'Low income service providers NEED a tip' is, to me, bogus. I worked minimum wage retail/gifts/toys for years. Worked my ass off, I'm great with people (not blowing my own horn, but I do great customer service!) and not once did I receive a tip. *You bought that telescope at a different/competitors store from people who don't know a tripod from a telephone pole and don't know how to find the moon? Okay bring it in and I'll teach you how to use it.* Nope, not a single tip. But if I'd worked with food intead of educational toys and equipment, that would be different somehow. Bull shit. That said, I tip well, when deserved. My kick ass hairdresser gets a big tip. So do good servers. The chirpy barista, yup her too. The gal who did everything right while I was shopping for a dress for a friends wedding, her too. Pizza delivery? Sorry, unless you do something extra, above and beyond what you're already being paid to do. I can be such a bitch Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein
  8. Abbotsford = cool dz! Pitt = cool dz + king air! I gather you'll be at the coast? If you find yourself in the interior, say, Vernon... Okanagan Skydive! Have a great weekend! Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein
  9. Happy Birthday Muenkel! You rock Chris! All the best.
  10. Anyone from BC planning on going? And by going, I mean driving. I'd love to go, but need to find someone driving, staying for part of the meet, and then driving home. I can't take my own car, and can't really afford to fly. I'll share driving and fuel $. I'm clean and housebroken, and I travel light. I promise not to sing, spill pop, or pass gas. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone? Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein
  11. POPCORN! Oooh just set a bowl anywhere in my vicinity and I'm unable to resist. MmmmMMmm butter and salt, maybe some parmesian cheese. Now I'm hungry And Pringle potato chips. I like any chip, but Pringles and me get on reeeaal well. And Timbits. I can resist a donut, but not a Timbit. They're so small, not a real donut, so how bad can they be for me? 12. Okay, I remembered! Pics from the flight to altitude, looking at Lake Okanagan in the first, and Kalmalka Lake in the second. Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein
  13. wow, that's a routine! Mine was simpler. Quality protein with every meal, fish once a day. Brown rice at least once a day. No wheat, no other flour although whole grains are fine. No dairy. No caffeine. No sugar. No alcohol. Nothing processed or preserved, all the veggies from fresh, either raw or slightly steamed. Some weird exlusions like bananas and peanuts. Three shakes a day, which contained the cleansers and support nutrients for my colon, liver, and kidneys. LOTS of WATER! It was a great programme. I'd do it again quite happily! 14. Just finished one, and I do one at least once a year! Feel great. It wasn't as harsh as others I've done, but it was a long 2 weeks! I always lose a few kilos when I cleanse, get lots of energy by the end, and can't wait to get back my morning Earl Grey tea when it's all over. This time around, as I slowly re-introduced different foods, I discovered - to my dismay - that eating wheat seems to make me quite tired. Not good! I LOVE bread, and all things baked. Dairy I can take or leave, but NnnoooOOo it's wheat that bothers me. I'm going to knock it out of my diet for a week or so, see if it helps. I hope it doesn't, then I can keep eating bread! To do the first one, you just have to dive in. Make it easy by planning your shopping, avoiding social commitments that will make it harder to stick to it, and plan for extra sleeping and food prep time. And the first time, do a more gentle cleanse, with a little more leeway. The real extreme ones are so much harder to stick with, especially the first time. But it's worth it! 15. You're referring to the fire? Yeah, and the new clubhouse is better than ever! All sorts of jumpers came out and pitched in to rebuild. Really, it's amasing how fast it went back up. And no woodstove this time! The plane never really stopped flying, despite the fire. Only weather kept us on the ground. And yeah, it's a beautiful dz. I have a couple pics of the scenery, but they're on my home computer. I'll try to remember to post them later. 16. 3 posts. It took only 3 posts to corrupt a nice clean subject. Way to go team! (Sourdough bagel with feta and sundried tomato creamcheese.) Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein
  17. A praying mantis, maybe? They can bend their necks and will watch you go by. Cool bugs, but they can get BIG! edited to add picture! Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein
  18. Welcome to the west! Where to jump? Depends on where you are! There's Eden North or Westlock in Edmonton. I haven't been to them, but know plenty of people who jump at both. In BC there are dz's in Vernon, Kamloops, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Victoria, and Pitt Meadows. Pitt is definately the biggest out here, with the biggest plane. If you come through Vernon, look up Okanagan Skydive Adventures. Might see you there! Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. 20. Of course! She's 'Beauty'. Cause the first time I jumped her - my first jump off student status and off big student canopies! - I looked up and she was SO BEAUTIFUL! I've had lots of weird comments and looks though. During my coach course a few weeks ago, the course conductor Derek said to me (hesitant voice, kinda worried and disbelieving) "You named your gear?" He thought I was weird. I've been called worse Of course, occasionally when she won't go in the bag easy, I have other names for her. Usually 'Bi@#$ch!' 21. Luv. Short and simple. I call him the same thing. I love the way pet names evolve.
  22. Agreed. The shower. Although I'm curious about what you mean, you aren't sure about who the Maid of Honour really is. Are you or aren't you? It's a fairly important detail. Regardless of that, even if you were just a guest with no responsibility, go to the shower. Friends are friends. I lost a very good friend over her attitude about my wedding when she made it clear her priorities didn't include something so important to me.
