Goodbye CSS... Hello new Raleigh DZ
hparrish replied to OuterFocker1's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Well get on it..............I'll definately support a new DZ in Raleigh. -
Two Words - Government Contracts.
-
Thanks Man..........I appreciate all the support you've sent our way, and coming down to the freeflying events. I'd be more than happy to reciprocate and come up to Suffolk. I think we are planning a trip up in a couple weeks. It was a sad weekend indeed. I have so many memories I can't put them all into words. I've made and lost alot of friends from CSS over the years. I just walked around on Monday filming folks and thinking of special moments I've had with each of them. Alot of the old timers came out to say goodbye, and my mentors in the sport came out to jump with me. It was an awesome send off. It wasn't too surprising that the Fayards decided to retire.........but it was still shocking and took us all off guard regardless. It was a Bitter Sweet and Sad Weekend. But I'll see all my friends soon at Raeford, Suffolk, Chester, and Orange. Now that I'm DZ Homeless....

The Last Load today was very Surreal. Not a dry eye on the plane. I've been junping there for 9 years now, and it feels like I've lost my family. But well see what the next year brings there may be a new DZ on ther horizon. We'll see if things work out that way. To all of my CSS Family..............I love you all. Well figure something else out and move on. Paul and Nancy, even though I'm sure they don't read these posts. Thanks for 42 years.......... Harry P

Jive Jam is cancelled for August 30-31.
-
Well i suggest you quit Bitchin about it and come to Jive Jam. Thats what Jive Jam is all about. But I have very light turnouts. The original purose of this thread was to point out that even when events are organized, people don't take advantage of it.
-
Hey Folks next Jive Jam is at Raeford, NC in two weeks August 30-31 2008. Start Time is 9AM. Check the Events Calendar (Special Weekends) for more details.

You must have a log book for Tunnel Time or your Tunnel Ratings and USPA Licenses get revoked. This is the law and you must follow it. If it is discovered you have not maintained separate logbooks, your vehicle will also be impounded, and you will owe the IRS $20,000

Well it was a Sabre..................

Latest Video for Jive Jam is posted to SkydivingMovies.com http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=7155

Do you mean Joe Winters?

You seem to only want to make this about swooping. So I'm done talking to you until you are educated enough to understand both aspects of the argument. My DZ has one landing area. When and if I am first down I swoop. When its' conjested I bail and land normal. We also organize our loads and exit order partially based on landing styles, landing direction, wing loading, etc.....We run an offset jumprun so exit orders regarding Freeflying vs RW, is not really an issue. We have NEVER had a Canopy Collision in the 12 years I have been jumping there. Nor am I aware of any in the 35 years of operation there. Every DZ does things differently, I follow the rules when I'm visiting. But more importantly I'm an experienced canopy pilot and I know when to Swoop and when not to. But none of that will satisfy you...........becuase you just want to condemn swooping and win your argument.
-
If I'm at your DZ and they have a separate landing area for Swoopers I will land there. Spiraling down into the pattern affects more than swoopers................It affects everyone on the load. There is simply no room for spiraling down into a pattern and making congestion a problem. And the argument is spiraling down............not swooping. Regarding the fatalities at Clewiston. I don't believe that swooping was the cause of the collision. Sounds more like someone opened 2nd under a large Main and somehow caught up (either opened low or sprialled down) , with someone opening first with a very loaded main. It also sounds like the person with the larger wing landed against the traffic pattern set by the first group. The fact that the first group was swooping has little to do with the real contributions to this collision. The Collision could / would have happened with two low speed landings as well. To me this is clearly not caused by swooping, and I'm getting sick of it always leaning toward that direction. Also as much as I agree with separate landing area's for High Speed and Low Speed landings, it appears that this DZ didn't have that rule in effect.

Anyone have a count on fatalities for the year?

Not from what I've read..........Sounds more like someone opened 2nd under a large Main and somehow caught up (either opened low or sprialled down) , with someone opening first with a very loaded main. Point Blank you are wrong on just about every argument you pose. I don't care to hear your reasoning anymore. You don't have enough experience to even pose a valid argument. You're just wrong. Whats worse is you are telling Instructors, PST Competitors, and folks with a Butt Load more experience than You, that they are all wrong. Your'e DZO should just ground your ass. If you want to spiral down under canopy, I suggest you Exit the plane Last and do Hop & Pops. Spiral down to 3000 Feet and then stop Spiraling and enter the pattern at 3000 feet. You can't have your cake and eat it too. If you want to Spiral and have fun under canopy do Hop & Pops. If you want to skydive then skydive and pass on the canopy antics. If you were at my DZ and spiraling down into the pattern, I'd talk to you about it. If you did it more than once I'd chew your ass on the spot.

Hey I got an idea..........Let's take this thread down the Swoopers Vs Non-Swoopers path AGAIN. We haven't had one of those threads before have we??? Lets me save you the trouble...........All accidents and fatalities this year were caused by Swoopers. Does that make you feel better? You win..........I'm selling my JVX tomorrow, before the discipline is banned. Oh and can you tell me the next skydiving discipline thats up and coming that will make me look cool. That's the only reason I swoop now, so if I'm giving it up I'll need something else to make me look cool. -

You know I was just at my desk counting when a friend walked up and asked me if I was getting ready to respond to this thread. Actually I didn't know about this thread until he walked up and told me. I was counting because we have 4 pages of posts under the Incidents Forum for 2008, and it's only July. Here's what I've counted just from the posts, I'm sure some posts are duplicates. Fatalities US - 20 Fatalities Intl - 14 Injuries US - 33 Injuries Intl - 16 Skydiving Aircraft Fatalities US - 18 Skydiving Aircraft Fatalities Intl - 4 What the HELL is going on in our sport..........My personal belief is that the Experience Level has dropped off significantly, there is less education than there should be, and there is less mentorship and discipline than there used to be. I agree most of these accidents and fatalities were preventable, very few of them were legitimate fatalities, where nothing different could have been done to prevent them. What really alarms me is the number of injuries......alot of the injuries could have very well been fatalities. Also there are alot of fatal plane crashes in 2008. What a Dreadful year so far for skydiving. I really hope people start paying attention. I really hope the Education steps up and Mentorship starts again, and those that don't want to listen are grounded. Because we need to start doing something differently. -
PM me Sott, I'll get you my Cell Number. Give me a shout when you are planning a trip up.
-
Great I'm probably heading up to the DZ around 3-4PM on Friday. Guess we can start early.

Folks, Next Jive Jam Event is this coming weekend (July 19-20) at Carolina Sky Sports. I’d like to start working on building single and multi-point formations this weekend. We will break into groups of 4-5 then combine for groups of 8 if everyone is ready. November is coming quicker than you think so I’d like to start working towards that NC State Record. See you this weekend. Jive Jam #4 – 2008 / July 19-20 / Carolina Sky Sports

Scott, Whats up man........It would be great to see you up this way a couple times a year. Check out the Jive Jam thread and schedule and see if you can make any of them. There sure were some good vibes back when you came up for the Boogies. CSS aint what it used to be.........But that is in all disciplines at that DZ, not just Freeflying. If I want to get allot of jumping in nowadays, I go to Raeford. Jon Randolph, Joey Costa, Dave Sampson, Peter Matos, Brandon Vigesa, Steve Lee, Alex Macc, Jerry, etc...... are all gone now. There is a grass roots effort there for up and coming freeflyers, but as far as anything Advanced Jive Jam is it........and turnout is relatively small to date, but growing. I think I miss the people more than the advanced jumping. Most of my good friends that I came up with in the sport are no longer jumping. Just wondering if this is the case eleswhere or just isolated to the Carolina's. With the Economy I'm assuming its more widespread.

Tough not to be Proud of Her I'd Think.

It will be nice to meet you in person. See you there.

If you're a HOT CHICK you don't need to go to camps. The Instructors will give you free coaching. If your a dude, your on your own unless a HOT CHICK Tunnel Instructer, Digs Your Chili.
