Eloy Rooms are Top Notch.........Very Clean and Clean Linens. Pool in courtyard, and very clean bathrooms. I'd stay there every time.

Started off with 1300 Freefly Jumps. Took me about 20 Hours to get signed off on Level III Freeflying. Been working on Level IV Freeflying for about 10 hours. Probably close to sign off on Lvl IV, but wont consider myself proficient until after around 40-50 total hours in the tunnel. It takes time and patience to fly well in the tunnel. And there's a big difference between checking off sqauares on a website and actually flying well in the tunnel. Check out the IBA website if you want to see the official Sky Venture Tunnel Progressions. http://tunnelflight.com/pages/flyers/flyerRatings.php

The fact is that it was Advertised that Dave Brown and Paraclete Instructors would be organizing. And it was advertised that the State HD Record and HD Sequentials would be hosted. The names and activities were used to draw Freefliers to this event. I think Dave Brown with his 11,000 jumps should have his expenses covered. I don't think any organizer should have to pay the registration or for their jumps. That's in essence asking them to pay to be able to organize and promote skyfest. That's BS And yes I have been to two previous SkyFest Events, both took care of the Load Organizers........why did it change this year?

So Dave Brown and the Paraclete Tunnel instructers were at the event? And the 20 way State HD record and HD Sequentials did happen? My problem is not with Tony or anyone at Raeford. My problem is with the event organizer. And yes I have oganized events in the past so I do know what I'm talking about. When you adverstise these organinzers and events are taking place to draw folks into the event, then there should be that kind of talent on hand. That's the only reason that I would have paid such a high registration fee. When I found out that these organizers cancelled because their expenses were not covered and they were expected to pay the event registration and for their jumps.........That just flat out pissed me off. Especially when the registration fee was still charged. I knew I'd take heat for posting this, but I'm sick Event Organizers expecting the talented skydivers in our sport to organize for free. Especiall those who have earned the right to have their costs covered. They are bringing folks to the event, that is their payment. I decided not to attend, even though I wanted too. Raeford is my home DZ. I'm sure the Boogie was very fun for those that did not have my same expectations. As always Raeford has a great vibe, and just haning out with friends there is enjoyment enough. But I'd rather jump there on a standard weekend.

I heard this event was pretty lame. Most of the organizers bailed because their expenses were'nt covered and they were expected to pay both the registration fee and for their jumps. The regulars at Raeford were being strong armed into paying for the right to pack and set up tents at their own DZ. The Pitts Bi-Plane, Hot Air Baloon, and Casa were non shows. So why if there were little to no organizers and the fleet that was promised was not there was there still a $55 registration fee. This event sounds like it was weak, glad I stayed home. I also heard this event had nothing to do with and was not organized by Raeford Owners or Staff. Just to set the record straight there.

I agree with Dave on both of his posts. Also, I think that most canopies come with shortened brake lines to keep the lower experienced canopy pilots safe. A Competition wing (Velo II or JVX), I wouldnt think they would do this. I know for a fact with the JVX, the Lines are set for maximum performance and only minor control line changes if any are necessary...........IE, extending 5" would not be optimal for performance. I'd think a Comp Velo II would be very much the same. So perhaps adding the extra slack is atually contributing to your tail flutter, and changing the enitre angle of attack on the canopy in a dive.

Paraclete is an Excellent Tunnel............But Good Luck getting 12 Jumps a day at Raeford.

I'd recommend a One Piece Jump Suit over Pants. They can size it to your body type and you should be able to Freefly in all situations, and have good fall rate. Plus you can jump a suit year round, pants are only good for warm weather, you could just wear shorts and a T-Shirt for that matter.

packing volume difference between VX and JVX
hparrish replied to rhys's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
It will fit great............Just add a layer of Axle Grease inside your main packing tray, and add 2 inches to your closing loop. -
Do they work very well at NH??? First thing I thought of when I read this post was, how noisey it is in the Tunnel. I'd assume you would need to remove earplugs to hear the two way radio. Even mounted inside the helmet I'd think the tunnel noise would make it hard to hear.

Very Ballsy............Both of Them. I certainly respect their bravery. Thats just pushing it further then I'm willing to go. But most Pioneers do push farther than others are willing to go.

Ya'll Need Sum Help. Sick Fuckers. I think thats why we get along.

yeah I see your point too.......... probably equally as good of an idea to downsize on the Stiletto for a few hundred jumps and then move over to a cross braced. But I think either way.........he's doing it conservatively and in a safe manner.
-
Maybe he should concentrate more on having fun and enjoying himself than trying to master tunnel flying. Neither Tunnel Flying or Skydiving are EASY. It takes time and effort for most to gain what are considered good skills. It's kind of insulting in a way that he thinks he should be able to go in and be instantly good. Allot of folks spend alot of time and money to gain their skills, why should your buddy expect it will be any different. Again if he isn't enjoying himself, which is what recreational activities are suppoesed to be about. Then perhaps he should quit, or Chill and learn to enjoy learning how to fly.
-
I think its a wise decision to move from non-cross braced to cross braced in the same wing loading. much better than both a switch to a cross braced and down sizing in the same move. With his jump numbers and experience under a Stilleto, I think its a very smart and conservative move to go to the Velo 111. Isn't that what gets pounded into everyone's head who is converting to a cross braced??? We finally have someone posting the smartest way to make the transition and immediately folks start in on him. Come on guys..........you know he's doing it right. OP............Now follow up with some canopy training / courses, and I think you'll do great.

Something new from Aerodyne - Sensei(!)
hparrish replied to alge's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
To be fair a new JVX Full Sail or Hybrid will cost you around $3K a Zero P will put you out around $2500, I believe the Velo II is at or near $3K as well, with the Velo I in the $2500 range. I don't think that Brian's canopy price is out of whack for the level of canopy you will be getting. It's on Par with the competition. I know when I used to be a Big Air Dealer, Brian was using PD for his production canopies and also did his Signature Series as well, which were hand built Line Sets and mods, but I believe he still had PD cut and assemble the canopy. I think its great he is teaming with Aerodyne to manufacture his canopies. It was proabably more competative pricing than he was getting from PD, and probably allows him to both keep his pricing realistic, and meet demand. This should be a win / win for dye hard Brian Germain canopy fans. Wish I still had my Samurai as a backup canopy, or on Big Ways.
