  1. You've done the tandem, if you're going again for another jump do AFF1... that's where the real skydiving starts. Don't stress about the other stuff, just go do a jump and take it from there. Check out the dropzone and chat to a few people, you will have a good indication then if you want to continue.
  2. I swear you have a fetish for naked jumping
  3. Your biggest concern is your top (shirt/jumper) flying up and covering your emergency handles. I wear a tight long sleeve shirt, tucked into jeans with a very tight belt and have no problems so far. That being said, I'm just waiting for my custom rel suit to arrive.
  4. Ours are VERY similar. 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000: malfunction LOOK, LOCATE, PEEL/PUNCH (cutaway), THUMB/PUNCH (reserve), ARCH/CLEAR LINES
  5. I see students every week over 50 at our dropzone. The AFFI's just hold on extra tight
  6. Trust me, the fear goes away... it took me ~20 jumps before I could stick my hand up and say with confidence "put me on the next load" with no doubt in my mind. I'm 21 and go to University, it's definitely possible to start now, you will just progress slower. It's taken me 7 months now from AFF stage 1 to A license (25 jumps). Don't just think of it in jump numbers though, I could only afford to do 1 jump a week but I still got to spend an entire day at the dropzone with friends. Go do AFF stage 1, you will have a good idea after that if you're really hooked. Really, don't worry about being scared... I nearly didn't complete AFF because of my fear (solo exits ), but at about 10 jumps I started getting semi-comfortable. Once I learnt how to pack and check my own gear, I cut out another random element of safety and started trusting myself. Go jump!
  7. That does help me out, thanks! Seems like Sabre2's maintain a fair bit of value in the low jump range. The Cypres2 is probably a no brainer, under a year old it would be reasonably close to new value. The reserve has me a bit stumped, I need to find out how old it exactly is, but I'm pretty sure it's only ~3 - 4 repacks. If a reserve has 0 jumps it maintains its value quite well?
  8. I could do with some help here, I don't have the EXACT dates (aquiring them at the moment). Infinity container - 18 jumps Sabre2 170 - 48 jumps PD reserve 160 - 0 jumps (couple of repacks) Cypres2 - under 1 year old (not exactly sure of the month). Colours are good on container/main and according to the measurements the container "should" fit me perfectly (will find out when it gets to the rigger)... Any general idea's on prices? Gear hire is $40/jump here and in the 16 weeks+ it takes to buy a new rig I could be spending possibly $1000's of dollars towards nothing... rig is perfect for freefly and has the exact main I want.
  9. Stuff waiting, if you have enough interest to sign up to this forum you should go jump, chances are you will get addicted
  10. Welcome to DZ.com Don't worry about going alone, you will make heaps of friends There's heaps of people that enjoy talking to students and will hang out with you. Tandem is just the beginning, AFF will blow your mind
  11. Welcome to DZ.com Most people I know did AFF stage 1 their first jump instead of tandem. No problems, it's an experience you won't forget Go for it.
  12. People seem to get upset when you do that... everyone asks at the start if you're comfortable, but at 1/2 altitude my foot usually goes dead and I have to tap on the guy in front and ask if I can reshift my foot. Till then the plane is silent and nobody is moving... then I come along and spoil it
  13. I jump at a small dropzone. Cessna 182, lucky to get 10 jumpers on a saturday (we couldn't even fill a plane yesterday, 4 jumpers). No tandems. Single hangar out of 100+ hangars at a busy airport, we don't even have running water That being said, I can't wait to venture out to the turbine DZ here... mmmmm double caravans
  14. Even if you decide to save up or do it spaced out... do your AFF1 now, even if your AFF2 is going to be a month away. Meet your instructors, do your first jump course training and start your journey... it's the largest part. THEN worry about your finances, if anything you will have much more motivation.
  15. I did mine with 2 - 3 weeks between each stage and I passed all stages first go. It definitely is a lot harder... mentally, but it's entirely possible. IMO, save up for the first few stages before you start... but if the other alternative is waiting 8 - 9 months to save up the entire course... just go for it. Have you jumped before (besides tandem)? If not I say sign up for your AFF1 today and get hooked... THEN deal with the money side of things
  16. We all lean back in the Cessna 182... if you don't (especially with student rigs) your body is destroyed from cramps by the time you hit altitude. Everybody leans back and everyone is comfortable.
  17. That sums it up nicely, I want to jump every weekend, the rig is primarily so I get cheaper jump prices (essentially twice as many for my buck). If the only downside is the wind penetration at lighter loadings I got no problems with that... it's a Cessna 182 dropzone, 5 people in the air and everyones pretty damn good at spotting, I had no problems landing on target on a 270 in high winds. Now when I trek out to the turbine DZ (Caravans) it may be a different matter... but if I'm going to land off, may as well have a bigger canopy
  18. We're close in Qld Australia. Local dz: $40 to 10,000ft $25 to 3,500ft Turbine DZ $45 to 14,000ft
  19. That's what I was looking for It was my plan to fly the hell out of one canopy before downsizing but I never see/hear of anyone doing this on lightly loaded canopies... all my mates loaded at 1.0 for their first rig, then by 100 jumps they're at 1.1-1.2 and upwards. It made me rethink... is there a reason why people don't fly larger canopies for hundreds of jumps? I've seen a few people stick with 1.0 wingloadings for 100+ jumps, that's why I thought about the 170, like it's the magical sweep spot. I've never seen anyone stay with a canopy loaded under 1.0 for any decent length of time.
  20. Thanks for the reply, very encouraging. If it ends up being a tad slow and boring, at least I can fine tune my pattern/accuracy and my landing right? I want to be in the sport for the longterm. In regards to the plane out, I feel the flare has enough power... I definitely know what you mean though, I love how the Sabre lands compared to some of the raggy F1-11's.
  21. Another 25 jumps @ $40 gear hire is a $1000, that's why I'm leaning towards buying very soon rather then later, @$80 a jump I'm only fitting in 2 - 3 a weekend at best. I guess another way to rephrase the question: What can I do on a Sabre2 170 that I can't on a 190? Or is the whole decision based purely on speed. I know wind penetration comes into it, but so far it hasn't been a problem.
  22. After a few jumps attempting to "side slide" by myself I realised I was just wasting my jump. I think tracking + loops are the best bang for buck doing solo's... do your relative movements with another jumper.
