If your exit weight is ~170 or under, it might be possible to move onto a 170 canopy as a freshly licensed jumper. Talk to your instructors, it never hurts to fly a size larger.
-
200 jumps is minimum acceptable limit at the dropzones in my area.
-
2 planes, both have issues, still sending jumpers?
Chubba replied to camman2's topic in Safety and Training
Not experienced, but with an older C182, I always ask the pilot if something strange is going on. I trust our pilots, they are very upstanding blokes, they don't cut corners. At my level (low licensed jumper), I don't ask instructors or the DZO... what the hell do they know about flying, sure the DZO has lots of experience running the DZ, but I'll always listen to the pilot first and foremost when it comes to aircraft. -
Deepseed suits are great, wouldn't have a clue where they rate amongst the other suits but IMO they are very good product. Good company to deal with.

I got a chincup on my Cookie Rok before I found on what they were actually for, got the helmet at 18 jumps. I thought it was mainly for comfort and secondly looked cool. Oh well, at least when I slap a camera on in 60 jumps it's already there, silly me.
-
Could be this... possibly this... In all probability it's this...
-
Depends on how far is a 1/3rd of the distance? Are we talking 20 minute drive compared to 60 minutes? OR 1 hour drive compared to 3 hours? If it's the former, definitely stick it out.
-
... Wow, you mum seriously sucks. That's terrible.

Check out some of the smaller C182 dropzones. With only 5 slots on the plane, its a mixed bag everytime. One jump I can be doing some basic RW with a freshly licensed jumper, the next I'm going for a track with someone that has 5000+ jumps. We threw a 4-way out yesterday, experience as follows 1. 30 jumps 2. 130 jumps (me) 3. 1500 jumps 4. 11,000 jumps

Rules are meant to be broken, don't get too bent out of shape, 18 years old everything is fair game. The time for teenage rebelling is over, either go tell your mum you're going to do AFF (it's not asking, it's telling) or just hide the fact if it's going to create dramas. Do it, defy, that's life... she will get over it.
-
Screw it. Do AFF, don't tell your mum, simple. Live your life how you want.
-
There's BASE jumpers at every single dropzone too, even our tiny single C182 DZ has them. Local/face to face mentoring is the best way to get into the sport.
-
Indeed, there was certaintly nothing to get upset about. IMO you would be hard pressed convincing someone that's standing up landings under a 200 to buy a 230 as their first canopy.
-
Relax SkyDiveDoc22 If your instructors have put you on a 200 and you're displaying good canopy control, ask them if a 190 is appropiate for your first canopy. Most important thing to do once you get your A is to demo a good portion of the modern designs, you might need to upside back to 210 initially but provided you have good canopy control, a few more jumps under your belt and your instructors give you the nod, a 190 will probably serve you well. At your weight, a 170 is too small.

Don't forget the line check

Yeah....soft landings? How do you do it?
Chubba replied to shah269's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I had lots of hard landings during AFF that I eventually corrected. Some advice in the meantime. Get some good supports for your vital joints (knee's/ankles etc.) and make sure you're jumping in really good shoes, you can't put a price on walking away from a jump. Most importantly, drill the PLF so it's second nature. Go get a martial arts mat or something similar and bust out a few dozen every single day. Then when you come into land, feet/knees together ready for that PLF... hopefully your memory takes over, it's not pretty, but chance are you will walk away unbroken. -
Landing Pattern 1.2 - landing approach simulation

Yep I got the same thing. I just googled the .dll file, downloaded it and put it in my Windows/System folder... no problem. -
Landing Pattern 1.2 - landing approach simulation

This is very cool -
I don't get the scare tactics behind the Sabre2? Jumping at sea level, with the appropiate size, loaded at 1.0 or less... the design has great results with newer jumpers at our DZ. I don't know what people deem "forgiving", but at that loading it is docile and the landings are great. Isn't there a US dropzone that puts AFF students on Sabre2's? Why do people try so hard to steer people away from such a nice design

I have an Optima (inside a Cookie Rok). The default alarm volume is very comfortable in freefall, I certaintly feel no pain or discomfort.
-
I don't mind logging jumps. I just hate having to get them signed!!!!!!!!
-
Damn, I hope those guys don't come around to our tiny C182 DZ's on busy airports We make up for it though by being extremely friendly
-
Go clear googles. I'm one of those wimps that wears sunglasses 24/7, literally... I can't drive or even walk about outside without my glasses. No problem in freefall though

How soon is too soon to start freeflying?
Chubba replied to Rstanley0312's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Does tracking on your back count? I would go crazy on a small C182 DZ doing only rel work. Majority of the time you don't even have the option of launching a 4-way... tandem here, AFF there, suddenly there's no room... there's only so much fun you can have doing RW with 2-3 people every jump. -
Have your goal in mind and work towards it, leave any negativity on the ground and focus on whats important.
