First AFF, 255 lbs, what do i need to know...
mrbiceps replied to jpickens's topic in Safety and Training
Could this guy put his own rig together and show up and jump it? Surely something like a huge javelin j8 (rated at 300 pound exit weight and a 300 zp canopy) which would probably fit a 320 or 354 7 cell flik and some sort of tandem reserve would work. -
Something that the heroes of this forum lack (refer to inability to stay in your established grid on the 71 way world "record" fl0ck). So let me get this straight, this Sangi fool is giving shit to the 71 world record holders even though he has never even flown a wingsuit?? Am i missing something or is this Sangi the biggest dick head on this site ??

I came across this a while ago when i got a sabre 170 which was made in 1992. From memory the label said something like max weight was 170 pounds or something silly like that. My instructors told me that it was mainly due to in its day it was a "high performance" canopy and the manufacturers didnt want people to load them at more that 1.1 even though since then hundreds of thousands of jumps have been put on sabres loaded at more than 1.1 safely.
-
i use the pmb software that came with my cx-155. if i shoot the footage in hd i can pull a still off it that it around the 1.1 mb in size and looks pretty good, certainly not blurry.

im using a un quick shoe, works okay. i am planning on getting a cx-150 cookie cage though. I bumped it on the room of the skyvan the other day and need something to protect it.
-
i had the same dilema and ended up going with a waycool 0.3 lens. i just zoom it in a little bit if i need to. Its great for filming big ways if i am in the formation and one day when i get my tandem rating will work good for handyscam.

Samurai for a 100 jump person
mrbiceps replied to 4chewnate's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I reakon this is crap that a instructor sold a canopy like this to a 100 jump person. A 100 jumper should not be on a high performance elliptical canopy. -
okay thanks for the advice guys, maybe ill have to lay off the protein bars for a while. cheers

Ive got an older mach one. It has these long round foam pads that slide inside a pouch inside the arms and i was wondering what purpose they have as i have trouble fitting my arms inside the sleeves and was thinking about taking them out to give my arm some more room. Can anyone help out there? thanks

Hooray some honest person stops the bullshit and tells us honestly how many jumps goes on a tandem canopy. $50 - $70 per jump , what a joke. I know there are some people going around hiring their tandem rigs out to dropzones for something like $50-$70 per jump which is cool and good luck to them for their little business they have set up BUT they are obviously making money otherwise they wouldn't be doing what they are doing. Im no expert but im going to go out on a limb and say that the real cost of a tandem rig per jump in maintenance and replacement parts is more like less than $20 per jump.

It all started with a pilot chute hesitation
mrbiceps replied to ecnuob's topic in Safety and Training
why dont u try and simulate the situation by unstowing only one brake and then grab the rear riser on the unstowed brake side and try and fly it straight and practise flaring like this. -

mrbiceps replied to ecnuob's topic in Safety and Training
For a low time jumper like myself i would have landed it but probably be more worried about trying to flare and end with and uneven flare and braking something. So i would have got her straight into the wind and copped a plf. You walked away so u made the right decision. well done. -
Nothing wrong with hanging around the drop zone and learning about jumping. We would make u feel welcome at our dz. Why dont u go and find the local rigger and ask him when he is next doing a reserve re pack and ask if u can sit in and watch him pack it. Im sure for the cost of a few beers he would be happy to show you how it all works.

New gear, did I make a good choice? (your opinion)
mrbiceps replied to quadrevium's topic in Gear and Rigging
Your an fucking idiot sangi, I tell u the definition of boring. A 200 pound newbie jumping a 170 and making a low turn and breaking himself and spending 3 months in a hospital bed staring at the ceiling. We should be encouraging newbies to jump big slow canopies for their first 200 jumps at least. I jumped a 215 until i had 185 jumps and i regret nothing, my ankles and legs are still pointing in the same direction when i took up skydiving. -

ill second what the cookie monster says. I have mounted canon 1000d and cx-150 straight ontop with a screw and also with a un quick shoe. cheers -
Not much, brought my first javelin rig for $1500, put 300 jumps on it and sold it for $3000. happy days....

CX155 Flash memory or CX155 Hard Drive
mrbiceps replied to verticalflyer's topic in Photography and Video
I think u have the model numbers mixed up as all cx-155 s are flash memory. the sony hard drive ones have model numbers like hdr-xr150 -
so why the hell is it $300 in the usa and $2000 in australia ?

Get yourself a monarch if u want quick openings... Talk about knock the wind out of you. You need to understand that u cant have a soft opening canopy that opens in 300 feet. I have been through this being a sabre 1 owner and was not happy with the quick openings of it so happily had a massive slider made up for it and now enjoy the 800 feet soft openings that it has.

I would say that most people that finish their aff see how much it costs to hire gear at their dz (rip off) and realise that they are better off looking for their first rig to purchase. Even if its only a basic rig, at least it gets them in the air. Seeing that u get free gear rental then u are in a very different boat. From your point of view right now i cant really see any advantage of purchasing your own rig. There are some minor costs associated with your own rig which right now u dont have to worry about. I say spend your cash on jumping your ass off and enjoy no rig rental costs. By the way u suck... hehe
