  1. Put another way, you are treating the civil rights of several groups as if they are the same and assuming there is some linear movement in terms of rights of these groups. It's not clear to me that's a fair comparison or correct Just looking at trans as an umbrella there are dozens of different groups. There are several studies that show a teenage girl that would have had anorexia in 2010 is now identifying as a boy. There are also legitimate homosexuals that will grow out of their gender associations. There are the perverts, men identifying as women to gain access to women's spaces. Finally, there are legitimate conditions like Androgen insensitivity, various chromosome abnormalities, and gender dysphoria. I'm not clear any of them deserve extra or equal treatment or should be encouraged. I have a friend with a 13 year old daughter. Five of her classmates in a class of 25 came out as trans. That looks like something in the environment is encouraging it and not something that's equivalent to what African Americans experienced in the sixties.
  2. You are thinking past the sale. Those movements had long fought battles. Despite your assumptions we live in Whig history there is no reason we couldn't start following the Taliban and throwing people off roofs.
  3. I thought it was notable a magazine like the Atlantic would publish anything like this. Two years ago you'd never see an article in the corporate press mentioning Europe has backed off puberty blockers, or any such dissenting opinion.
  4. LOL. Every corporate job, practically every ad campaign has woke stuff now. Though it has backed off a touch from 2020 highs. Avoiding it is still impossible.
  5. The Atlantic is far-right?
  6. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2024/08/glaad-hrc-gay-rights-movement-obsolescence/679402/ As gay people have become more fully integrated into the mainstream of American life, prominent activist groups have excelled at perpetuating themselves. The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s leading LGBTQ advocacy organization, issues a highly publicized Corporate Equality Index and, like GLAAD, accepts donations from the businesses it scrutinizes. It and other groups constantly gin up publicity on the faulty premise that life in the United States keeps getting worse for LGBTQ people. Last year, HRC declared, for the first time in its more than four-decade history, a “national state of emergency for LGBTQ+ Americans”—an absurd pronouncement that diminishes not only the suffering of the thousands of gay men lost to AIDS but also the terrible treatment endured by LGBTQ people in the 64 countries where homosexuality is illegal and in some cases punishable by death. Flailing about for relevance since the legalization of same-sex marriage, many gay-rights groups pivoted to a related but fundamentally different cause: transgender rights. Rather than emulate the movement’s past approach—seeking allies across the political spectrum and accepting compromise as a precondition for legal and social progress—they have taken hard-line left-wing positions. LGBTQ groups repeat the mantra “the science is settled” on the extremely complex and fraught subject of youth gender medicine and insist that anyone who questions the provision of puberty blockers to gender-dysphoric children is transphobic. They continue to spread this message even as many European countries have backed away from such treatments after concluding that the evidence supporting them is weak. The reflexive promotion of major medical interventions for minors should be a red flag for gay men and lesbians, considering the research indicating that many gender-distressed and gender-nonconforming children grow up to be gay.
  7. > The 5 largest ethnic groups in Perry County, AL are Black or African American (Non-Hispanic) (70.1%), White (Non-Hispanic) (28.4%), > Green County 80% African American > Claiborne 87% African American Would keep going but looks like the trend would continue in the top 10.
  8. > MLK states, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." One of the departures from this lovely quote, which explains wokeness post 2018 is that you can't judge by the content of character anymore. If someone is shitting in the street or using heroin in a kids playground, then you just don't know their trauma. Have some empathy! If stores are getting looted, you just don't know what adversity minority communities have faced. If naked men are blowing each other at Folsom Street parade or SF pride, that's just their culture. Stop being a bigot. Cultural standards need not apply equally. In addition, intersectionality which you kind of touched on above. It's not enough to be an ally of African Americans or gays. Now you need to consider the situation of trans Puerto Ricans raised by foster parents. Thousands of classes of things to worry about. Opportunity cost is real. If you have $100,000 to spend on racial justice, now you have to distribute it to every class. Each one gets $1 instead of one or two issues getting significant funding and attention. Sure be nice to the trans skydiver and understand them, but there is a practical matter when you start to apply policy at a global level to make sure all groups have equal representation. Another hallmark of woke is the focus on things like women's representation in video games. Instead of funding more women in science they concern themselves with how a video game character is clothed. https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/looting-chicago-after-george-floyd-s-death-ruined-our-store-ncna1231806
  9. You put the bay leaf in the tomato sauce first for long summer with garlic. After you sear your ground venison harvested with the above suppressors you add a small half bay leaf at the end for layered depth of flavor.
  10. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/trump-very-fine-people/ > Despite Trump's explicit condemnation of neo-Nazis and white nationalists, the majority of far-right leaders and groups received the speech positively.

  12. True Believer is pretty great and it was written in 1951 with a reflection on the social causes of WW2. > In Germany and Italy the new poor coming from a ruined middle class formed the chief support of the Nazi and Fascist revolutions. The potential revolutionaries in present-day England are not the workers but the disinherited civil servants and businessmen. This class has a vivid memory of affluence and dominion and is not likely to reconcile itself to straitened conditions and political impotence.
  13. > The incidence of gender-affirming mastectomy increased 13-fold (3.7 to 47.7 per 100,000 person-years) during the study period. Of the 209 patients who underwent surgery, the median age at referral was 16 years (range 12-17) and the most common technique was double-incision (85%) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9555285/
  14. > It is estimated that at least 6,166 overdose deaths involving illicit drugs occurred in the European Union in 2021 (5 796 in 2020). This total rises to an estimated 6 677 deaths if Norway and Türkiye are included (6 434 in 2020). This number is provisional and is an underestimate, due to reporting delays and other limitations in reporting capacity apparent in some countries. Is 6166 smaller or larger than 100,000? Population of EU is larger than the US. Assume the underreporting makes it double it's still an order of magnitude less.
  15. Homicides are comparatively constant only jumping 30%. Overdoses have tripled (300%) since 2018 30k to over 100k. In the same time frame as the life expectancy decline. While homicides have an effect it's not comparable to overdoses. Homicides only went from about 15k in 2017 to 20k in 2020. If you throw in an extra 70k 22 year olds dying by overdose in their mom's bathroom to the 2.7 million yearly deaths that would lower the life expectancy almost 3%.

  17. Bitcoin is up like 280x from start of this thread. The defi stuff has really gone to shit and definitely has not aged. All of the dollar backed defi give interest less than Treasury bonds at this point and seems like a pool goes broke every month.
  18. Depends if reasonable attempts were made to be private and the accuser wasn't eavesdropping.
  19. Do you feel you are creating a racial injustice when you eat a taco? Do you believe a society where most cultures stay in their lane by not eating each other's cuisine results in more equity and understanding between cultures?
  20. https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1596083744728928257 I see woke/SJW is more of a crying wolf phenomena. "Donglegate" would be my favorite decade old example: getting two people fired for making a comment between themselves privately at a conference. Or, a white person eating tacos "appropriating".
  21. Woke as a religion was an idea developed by Curtis Yarvin in 2007. It caught on with a circle of reformed libertarians turned neoreactionaries. Bannon and other modern conservatives that ended up in the Trump circle and a few conservative think tanks have neoreactionary ideology as the center. > Specifically, ultracalvinism (which I have also described here and here) is the primary surviving descendant of the American mainline Protestant tradition, which has been the dominant belief system of the United States since its founding. It should be no surprise that it continues in this role, or that since the US’s victory in the last planetary war it has spread worldwide. https://www.unqualified-reservations.org/2007/06/ultracalvinist-hypothesis-in/
  22. They are killing 12,000. Half of which are gang violence. Only if you include suicides. Other countries have higher suicide rates. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/gun-deaths/ Think about all the free hospital capacity if we outlawed coke though. Those billions spent on diabetes could be used to cure kids
  23. https://www.statista.com/statistics/1121416/quantitative-easing-fed-balance-sheet-coronavirus/ They ramped quantitative easing up dramatically. It's not really the amount shown in M1 but think it roughly matches M2.
  24. Alcohol kills about as many or more if you count cancers. Doctors and pharmaceutical companies kill far more from medical mistakes. Coca cola about an order of magnitude more. Even if you include suicides like your 40K number is doing. Can we ban coke?
