Wow - thanks all. So basically anytime I jump, to be on the safe side, I should usually have a case of beer with me. The list on the VT website was great, although someone will have to explain what some of those 'firsts' are - I am very new to this. Naked jump - really!?! Wouldn't the wind chafe? In the peas? Kiss pass - can you really get your mouth into the pucker during FF?

I know it's good practice to tip your tandem instructor. If/when you start taking the classes for your A license, do you also tip your AFF instructor(s)? Each time you jump? What about if you're doing an accelerated course (week long)? What would be an appropriate amount? Thanks.

Paying the Iraqi (“insurgents”) people not to shoot at us.

This has been the US foreign policy for a long time. We buy our friends - especially if our goals are not necessarily the same. Why do we give so much money to all the countries out there - I am too cynical to believe that we really give a rat's ass about most countries/people - especially when we have our own issues to deal with at home. Is it a good thing? I don't know if anyone could really say what would have happened if we didn't give Egypt $28 billion over the last 25-30 years - or any other country for that matter. For a long time, we were (don't know if 'are' would be correct anymore) the big man on campus - and people are always looking to take him down. I am also not naive enough to say that we can just let the world do their own thing and we will all be just fine. There are too many wanna be controllers of the universe out there that actually have power. -
I love those nights - we try to have family movie night on Fridays. Tonight however is my poker night. I live for those too. Very cordial game, good people, munchies, beer (if you're so inclined), and good music.

How far can you take this argument? Could we breed humans to hunt specifically, if they never lived in the wild? Just a hypothetical question of course. This is why it is nice to be at the top of the food chain.

I'm big into historical fiction so I would recommend: The Virgin's Lover (Philippa Gregory - who also wrote The Other Boleyn Girl - great book - horrible movie) About Queen Elizabeth's early years in her reign - full of treachery, plotting, love affairs, and romance (all the men can quietly yak in the corner). Quirky book: Water for Elephants (Sara Gruen) - The story of a man's life with the circus, some great details and stories (yes, it does have romance in it as well). Science Fiction (really anything by Robert Heinlein), but most recent was: The Puppet Masters - "creepy science fiction novel about "slugs from outer space." At key points throughout the U.S., an invasion force takes over communications, government, industry and, most importantly, people's minds and bodies. Can Sam Cavanaugh, a can-do intelligence officer, stop this invasion? " All good books and pretty easy reads.

The innocent people in the car the idiot hits? Shouldn't you be paying attention at the intersections (and everywhere else)? Defensive driving. Survival of the fittest. I drive in Egypt where there are no rules, lights, signs, etc. Most people here do not go through any drivers training to get their license. You have to be vigilant in your driving - really pay attention. You are driving a massive piece of equipment that is capable of killing and so is everyone else on the road - most people don't see it that way. The answer is not more laws/rules/etc. -

Wow - that was incredible, thanks. I've seen them a few times and they are just as incredible in person. It's amazing how much agility he has - and how old is he? -

Is there something wrong with dumbfucks who get into accidents? It may weed out the less fit (Darwin) AND provide revenue to the garages that fix the cars. Who loses here? -
I don't want to win - I just want to jump!

Has anyone been? My husband is taking my 3 kids to the festival this summer (specifically for my daughter's birthday - she'll be 11). I've heard there is a tent city where most people stay. How crazy does it get? Do I have to worry about my shit being stolen (tent and everything in it)?

Torture is when you've made your 1st 4 jumps - have become completely addicted - and then had to go back to live in another country where there are no (safe) jumps. I have to wait until I come back to the States to get my license. This is truly hell for me.

If only... But that's the way it's been for years. What will get us to wake up? -
I live in Egypt and it is incredible. There are many things you can do there from snorkeling or wind surfing in the Red Sea to camping among Roman ruins in the middle of the desert. There is a place called Whale Bones Valley that many people love to visit - it was the bottom of the ocean way back - very cool - and there are whale bones there (go figure). I have visited many different countries around there (Turkey, Israel, Romania (one of my favorites), Greece, Jordan, Morocco, Mali, and the list goes on). If you want to know any specifics about any of these places, send me a message. I'm planning on going on safari this summer in Kenya to see the migration (your August time frame would fit this). Things are not as dangerous as most think and the lodges are suffering from the lack of tours now. You may be able to get a good deal.

Brand Spankin' New To This
thirdworld19 replied to thirdworld19's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
OK - I jumped tandem for the 1st time (well, 1st 4 times) a couple of weeks ago and am completely hooked! (Plug for the DZ - I jumped at Skydive Spaceland - great place, great people). The problem is, I live in Egypt and only come to the States occasionally. I'll most likely be back in the States in a couple of months and would like to get my A license (Spaceland offers a week long course). My questions are: once I get my license, I may not jump for another 6 months - is it like riding a bike? Do I even bother (don't tell me no)? If I've been away for 6 months, what should I do before I jump again? Anyone else out there live/travel in the Middle East that can recommend some good DZs? Thanks!
