    Lies.....

Of course i like your Mom honey... i think you have me mistaken with my twin brother...what has he done now? I am more interested with who you are than what you are ! Your inner beauty is what first attracted me to you... You have the most beautiful brown...err... green, umm...Blue eyes i have ever seen! Noooo you don't look fat in that dress Sure, I'd love to go shopping with you... I'd love to get married someday... You look just like *insert supermodel here* i have only slept with 3 other woman in my life baby, i swear!
  2. sweet. i had never seen that. I guess there are no original ideas left! (especially since the toilet paper post)
  3. good point. maybe it's a hybrid between a hanglider and a wingsuit? My DZ has a Porter with that big door, but my exit concern wiould be the same as with a wingsuit...catching too much wind on exit and slamming into the rear stabalizer...I'm sure it would be easier out of a casa
  4. Has anyone seen pictures of the HUGE statue that overlooks Rio? Just a thought, but that would be one hell of a place to base jump! I wonder if you'd get struck by lightning before, during, or after the jump?
  5. i started my own club last december. Soon thereafter, we had 40 dues-paying mambers....it all took off like a rocket. Within the course of 4 months though, my club suffered from two people with broken legs, and one double malfunction. Now, i am not such a motivational guy. If people want to quit, or are too afraid to want to jump, i'd say let em' leave. if someone is THAT scared or apprehensive about this they will undoubtedly cause problems that could put them at serious risk up there. Frankly, if someone has the creeps that bad, i don't want them to even fly in the plane with me.
  6. If you want to hang there and impress, do the batman. I personally go for the artistic approach. Stand on the step facing the inside where they can see you. This way you are sideways to the direction of flight. Give them the peace sign and then bring both arms behind your straight legs and just roll off in a "pike" exit. Hold until you think no one is watching! :)
  7. Beating a dead horse here but, Been There, Done That. CUT AWAY!! Find a reserve. (besides, you can spend more money jumping without her) I wouldn't be so hard core about it if it hadn't happened to me.
  8. that's the one!! Maybe it's just me, but that seems like an awesome ride. Anyone have any idea of what these things will cost?? I have GOT to try this thing out!!
  9. well, the thing is, i have the camera already. It really is a comparable machine, but i am having a hard time with the wide angle lens part of things. YES, i probably should have gotten a sony, but i didn't...i saved a few bucks, drank beer and jumped with the money, so sue me!! :)
  10. Perhaps if you had lost friends during the attacks your perception would be a bit different regarding terrorist's rights. And Bill, the one thing that separates you from this guy is the fact that you don't meet with international terrorists. They clearly have information that they cannot release to the media regarding this event...isn't that blatently obvious??
  11. Anyone jumping a Cannon camera?? I have a ZR 20 and am having a hard time finding a wide angle lens. Advice? (and don't tell me to get a Sony!!)
  12. What was that thing i read about in skydiving magazine this month?? The picture of that guy standing there with wings extending from his back certainly is intriguing...Anyone have any info on this??
  13. Who's gonna be there? I know it is a jumprun.com thing, but if there's enough of us, let's get a load together!!

    Hooked turns?

I have to say, i have the same view of hook turns. I have seen one friend nearly die in my arms due to a misjudged hook turn. The numbers don't lie...this is the biggest reason for fatalities lately. I am just as thrilled after a gentle canopy decent as anyone, and i see no purpose in elevating the risk level to a point that leaves me no "outs". That being said, I also know a lot of people that only enjoy the canopy ride as their sense of excitement. These folks generally have a lot of jumps and attain some sort of guidance on the matter prior to attempting hook turns. There should be more advanced canopy schools around the country so people can learn properly and do their thing with more safety. The fact is, some jumpers will ALWAYS push the envelope. If that weren't the case, we'd all still be looking up at the clouds wishing we could fly. Our sport continues to evolve.
  15. I am by no means an expert on terrorism, but let me see if i have this right... A man with intimate knowledge of nuclear weapons (i.e. "dirty bombs") is meeting with Al Quaeda members (perhaps the most dangerous organization in the world who HATE America, not to mention western culture) and is taken in and held with no plans for a trial as of yet. Seems to me that there is a good reason for holding this guy. I mean, a year ago it would have been inconceivable that some crazies could hijack a bunch of airliners in unison and crash them into our cities, but it happened. We have finally awakened our collective minds to the fact that these people exist and operate in ways that are inconceivable. What if, for example, this guy was only one of a group of people planning to use a dirty bomb against DC...that would easily explain why there was no material evidence on hand. That being the case, would we want to release this guy back onto the streets? He most likely has valuable info about the case and is being interrogated thoroughly. I doubt that our government is trying to step all over our rights and see how far they can go with that agenda....more likely than not, this is a case of a credible threat that is being controlled. And lest we forget that guy who was an american citizen that was found in Afghanistan fighting alongside Al Quaeda forces...this is a multinational threat. These people are in over 60 countries...Unconventional war calls for unconventional tactics. My $.02. ~~A.T.~~
  16. I'm not sure if this is a confession, or what, but every time i deploy, i wait. Period. I wait and watch my canopy doing it's thing, THEN i reach up for my toggles or my rear risers. On the issue of other jumpers in your area, i would say that is a whole other, more serious issue. I always make sure i am clear to deploy before hand (i.e. other jumpers are nowhere near). After i know it's all good to deploy, my number one priority is to ensure that i have a good canopy over my head...That falls under the "look before you touch" catergory. My canopy snivels for quite a while, so it is almost painful to keep my hands away from the risers and wait, but i do it anyway.
  17. My concern with the Cypres or any other AAD for that matter is the cost. I am currently jumping without one simply because i can't afford the extra $900 it will cost. As a matter of principle, i believe in them. I have seen a couple of people with a Cypres fire, and really doubt they could have gained awareness and pulled in time. In a perfect world, these things would drop in price. I'd be willing to bet the companies making them and servicing them would make more $$ in the long run if they sold new for $400-500. Just my $.02 ~~A.T.~~
  18. hey, thanks for the assist. I think it'll help somewhat.
  19. I need everyone's help. My (ignorant) university is citing risk and liability as reasons for shutting down our skydiving club. We are the first officially recognized club in Kentucky, so this is important to keep alive. Does anyone have any pertinent statistics that will help our cause?? Advice?? an extra miracle??
  20. The stunt went well and there weren't any "newbies" out there to give a bad impression to. Bad news, however, is that after i let go of the rig (thankfully an OLD one used for water jumps), it stayed inflated and flew MILES off the DZ...The canopy was olive green and we have yet to see it...DOOH! Expensive stunt(+/-$400), but what an AWESOME video shot!! Everyone at the dz,(including me) was very surprised that I held on to it during and after deployment. Oh well, guess i will scale down my jumping until i can replace their old rig! A.T. p.s. thanks all for your concerns and advice
  21. I thought the famous last words were "Hey, what does this handle do??" :) I will post soon to let you guys know how it goes. A.T.
  22. We've got a Cesna-205 and a Porter. No CASAs or anything, but still awesome platforms to jump from...we have a ball out there! Come jump with us!
  23. My heart goes out to all those who lost a friend, husband, father, or whatever. From what you say, he sounded like a guy i would have liked to have jumped with. Beyond the blue skies lay soft landings and love A.T.
  24. Richard, Not sure what to say about the newbies...they'll do what they are allowed to, and nothing more...at least that's at my DZ. Your words of caution are good to hear and i will be extra careful. Just keep in mind that this isn't a spur of the moment thing, but a planned jump that will result in great video and a great experience for me as well.
  25. ...depends on where you are in Arkansas... we are in the "boot heel" of Missouri. Camping is fine, or you can crash at someone's place...either way, we're cool like that! hope to see you! A.T.
