  1. In other words, do you have "Forums" on your favorites and skip the homepage? http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  2. August 26, 27 An all you can jump just for the girls. One rig per fee. Guys are regular price jumps. Chickway organizing. Chocolate fondue fountain & champagne in the evening.
  3. Great movie. Bet on 22. Also, anything with Cary Grant. He is the most suave human that ever lived. I want to be re-incarnated as T.R. Devlin (Cary Grant) in "Notorious". Jen & I actually talked about naming our first son Devlin after watching that movie. Or C.K. Dexter in "Philadelphia Story". They don't write characters like that into movies anymore. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  4. If you are going to become a skydiver, don't tip them. Just buy 'em a beer at the end of the day. Remember, you are going to be one of them soon. If it's one jump and you feel like they spent a lot of time and personal attention with you, then sure toss em a few bucks. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  5. Had one two nights ago. I had a double mal and bounced under my reserve. Somehow, I did a great PLF and had no injury. Come to find out someone had weighted down the inlet of each cell of my canopy with golf balls and it wouldn't inflate. OK, so the first part was a fukin nightmare but then became kind of a comedy. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  6. I have found that anything by Behringer to be the shit. They, HANDS DOWN, will have the best quality for the price. I have a 16 channel mixer for studio stuff and it works great. I also have the 8 channel that I use for the DZ PA during boogies. The 8 channel I found a little flimsy but, hell, it's $40. I haven't played with their powered speakers yet but I am sure it has similar quality. Mackies have a great rep for powered speaks, as do JBL, when it comes to quality as well but may be a little pricier. Total price on the behringer system below is $638. Yamaha and Peavy stuff are pretty standard, nothing wrong with 'em just not top quality. Powered speaks-$598 for a pair: http://www.pssl.com/bitemdetail.tpl~waGroup1datarq~[waGroup1datarq]~eqint_KeyIDdata~12308~itemNumber~[item_number]~UID~2006072121323430~disp_IMG~Y~catgroup~%5BcatGroup%5D Plus 8 channel mixer- $39.99: http://www.pssl.com/bitemdetail.tpl~waGroup1datarq~[waGroup1datarq]~eqint_KeyIDdata~34308~itemNumber~[item_number]~UID~2006072121323430~disp_IMG~Y~catgroup~%5BcatGroup%5D I'd really recommend the 16 channel mixer for $179. Or powered mixer: http://www.pssl.com/bitemdetail.tpl~waGroup1datarq~[waGroup1datarq]~eqint_KeyIDdata~38386~itemNumber~[item_number]~UID~2006072121323430~disp_IMG~Y~catgroup~%5BcatGroup%5D And pick your speaks http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  7. Wachoo talkn bout Willis!?! http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  8. The answer to your question is very simple and I am going to be blunt about my answer. Cause up-jumpers are slack ass, selfish fuckers that rarely want to give more back to the sport than they take. DZO's do the thankless job of providing high quality facilities for little profit and major headaches compared to other fields of endeavour. So why wouldn't they be the ones to take on the extra responsibility to help shape the sport? Plus, most jumpers aren't in the sport long enough to A.) know enough people to get elected, and B.) have the qualifications to make major decisions affecting skydiving. I know several people that would make great BOD members but to do so would hurt them "politically" in their social groups. It would take personal sacrifice and would require them to spend out of pocket with no possibility of fun or return. That definitely is not for most people. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  9. it's an interesting thought. I would have to hear more arguments before I would vote. My first instinct is to say that tandem only should not be allowed because you are discriminating against other USPA members. That would not be in the spirit of GM. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  10. Ahh dude, the bad guys were the only ones with anything good to say in the last 3 movies!! Fair enough. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  11. I am always fascinated by those that show lots of praise for holding out on what are generally considered vices. You don't have to get F*cked up to experience these things. I personally think it makes you a more well rounded person for having experienced them. You don't have to use them to excess. You don't have to use them to mask your pain. But to not experience them at all limits your perspective. [star wars wisdom] As the emperor said, "If one is to understand the great mystery, one must study all its aspects."[/start wars wisdom] Just my opinion... http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  12. All I can say is that at those prices, it damn well better have all those features and be absolutely bug free. And customer support better be really good. With all those features it'll have to be really easy to use and more importantly easy to learn. I don't think you will get more than $2,500 though. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  13. Fruitstripe gum. If you can still find it...I don't even know if they make it anymore. I chewed through 16 large size packs in 2 weeks when I quit. After 5 years of pack n 1/2 a day, it got me through. It has been years since I quit and I never once have said, "boy, I wish I still smoked!" Don't give up. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  14. Have her tell you guys about the trip to Canada. She "couldn't imagine being Canadian". Definitely moron. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  15. Just saw the season finale, abstinence. Pretty good, although this hasn't been their best season. I agree with Robbie, the bottled water was kick ass. Getting folks to pay $5 for a bottle of garden hose water by putting a fancy label and a spider in it. Awesome. I hope they don't start running out of good topics. What else should they do episodes on? http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  16. I owned a mac desktop once upon a time. Just not my thing. Everyone I know with one loves it. I'm pretty much a pc guy. I've seen a lot of folks with sony's, but they were pretty pricey in the past. We're kinda lookin on the cheaper side. I'll look into them though. Thanks http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  17. OK, so our mechanic needs a laptop. Let me first state I will never buy another Dell computer. I have a lot of desktop experience and have assembled several of my own machines but ZERO with a laptop. That being said... What brand should we purchase? I prefer less bundled junk software. Who has good customer service if there is a hardware problem? Who has a good price to performance ratio? I'd like opinions based on actually experience please, no hearsay. Thanks in advance! http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  18. You guys got it all wrong, screw the 328 turboprop. Let's do 14,000 feet in 4 minutes in the Dornier Jet! There were a bunch in receivership a couple of years back in Germany. Still 6 million bucks, but man how cool woul that be. A semi-practical jump jet. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  19. Dude, I know how you feel. I came back from Dublin 2 Sundays back to find several pair of Gatorz missing from the dispay case. We all agreed they were there on Friday as we haven't sold a pair for a couple months. The company's display case has a space at the hinge where someone with small hands can bend the lexan to get in and take them. It had never occurred to me before but we had one of our manifest girls demonstrate it could be done. The shit bag that did it took about 4 or 5 pair (case holds 10 or 12). That tells me it was more than likely a local. If someone had come in off the street they would have taken all of them. So if someone knows if anybody was selling Gatorz "out of their trunk" at Dublin let me know. Certainly not as bad as losing your files. That represents work, creativity, and time that can never be replaced. We also had it happen at the Freeflight Festival. Video Cams and other pawnables were stolen from various folks. What the hell is up with that? What kind of people steal from their friends and compatriots? If you need money that bad, skydivers are always the first to pony up and help. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  20. We have a really naive 16 year old kid that does our loading and fueling. We call him "Butters". http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  21. Im right there with ya. I know how expensive events can get having put on a ton. But WFFC should be giving the vendors the tents for cost at least. For that matter, they should be selling tents on DZ row for cost. Back in the glory days of Quincy, I remember we would have 20 to 40 folks from our DZ packing at the DZ row tent. It really helped solidify whether the group was going that year when they made that kind of commitment. After all, the jumpers are who make the event happen. But you have to make it affordable to encourage people to come back to an event widely considered "on its way out". Especially when it costs a fortune just to get there thanks to gas prices. I would really like to see WFFC be huge again. It may help Don to go back to the roots and treat it as if it were a smaller event again and build it back from there. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  22. OK, that changes things. The area I was speaking of is fenced in, all torn up, ungraded, front end loaders, etc. Looked like a couple weeks work if it was going to be a parking lot. I saw it at night after several drinks and a couple Yami-yami rolls. So don't take my opinion for gospel! http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  23. I was in CO last week eating at the sushi place next door (GREAT F-ing sushi BTW). It didn't look very close to completion from the outside. Lights were on, people inside, no noise...as in not running (both nights I was nearby), and the whole area was still under construction inside and out, no parking lot etc. They seem to have a little ways to go before they are ready for the public. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  24. Was there something constructive to add to the discussion in your post? I posted to help Valcore gain info, not to get criticized by those that disagree with my policy. I noticed that neither you nor matthewcline put down what you think the limit should be. Except that your DZ has no limit. That's not a very solid platform for a soapbox. Matthewcline, if your intention was to say that our limits are subjective ("floating"), they are. There are too many variables involved. It is case by case, day by day, person by person evaluation. More than 10 knot gust spread at any speed or more than 28 knots total is an absolute limit in ideal directional conditions. If the wind is coming directly over the hangar or is shearing and turbulent at all we would tighten those limits by instructor/DZO/pilot concensus or as you put it, common sense policing. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  25. At Skydive Atlanta we will hold for high wind or large gusts (more than 10 knot spread). We limit based on license and experience on a case by case by day too. We did a wind hold on Saturday, winds 18 gusting to 31 knots. Later we jumped tandems and experienced jumpers in 16 gusting to 22, sometimes 25 knots. The wind direction was totally steady and we had clear air in the landing area. The jumpers all had over 1000 jumps save one who had 700 (300 last year). Our limit usually is 28 knots or more. These limits have come from my personal experience watching over the years what we accomplished safely and when we have pushed the limit and people have been put in compromising positions. Also, at 18 knots many canopies will still have forward speed. When everyone is landing backwards, it's probably time to stop. At a given DZ, obstacles that create rotors are a huge factor to be considered. In other words, not all DZ's are created equal when it comes to landing areas. At most DZ's it's up to the jumper to decide what's safe for themselves. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
