  1. Your not realizing how crazy traffic can get in that area. During rush hour losing just a single lane ( for whatever reason) can turn crossing that bridge and that area into a total nightmare. Losing a single lane can turn a 3 mile stretch of road into a 3 hour drive. On a good day, with all the lanes open it can take forever to get across that bridge. Even a 10 minute lane closure will ruin any sort of traffic flow for hours before it rights itself again. Once that area is locked up with traffic there are no secondary routes or short cuts that can be used. It becomes a mess everywhere so it's not as simple as calling for backup.
  2. Less then 50? You sure about that? A good friend of mine is a union carpenter in NYC. He builds stage and movie sets for many of the shows you see on show time and hbo. When he includes all his benefits he is making about 100./hr. Here is the pay schedule for NY. [url]http://wpp.labor.state.ny.us/wpp/viewPrevailingWageSchedule.do?typeid=1&county=87 I never said anything about the work being easy or that they don't deserve what they get paid. As for getting kicked out, I know there's a lot of guys that are in the union that aren't working so keeping comments like "likes to jump from buildings after he builds them" out of your file is probably smart if you want to keep getting steady work.
  3. Totally agree with you.... Makes for a great story: build it, jump it and no one gets hurt. Down at the union hall and at their watering hole I'm sure the guys all love the story. Getting on another job might be a different story. Personally I wish they wouldn't have gotten caught. I was only commenting that he actually had a lot to lose. I know in my industry a DUI would ruin you even if you got it in your personal vehicle on your own time. A DUI or failed drug test would ruin your CDL and less serious infractions will really limit what kind of freight you end up hauling.
  4. You mean what would happen besides losing their 100.+ per hour job and probably never working out of that union hall again?
  5. Thanks for setting THAT straight. All this time I was thinking it was Obama doing it so we wouldn't see him stepping on his d*ck while dealing with putin.
  6. There are other groups that have that covered....
  7. I had a total done on my right knee in April 2013. In 1984 I was crushed between a car and truck ( front bumper - front bumper) as a pedestrian. I was taken to the hospital and the leg was reconstructed. 29 years later and the old knee needed to come out. I'm not doing so good and am dealing with a lot of nerve pain, my flexion is 85* before the pain is unbearable, my extension is good. I did everything that was asked of me in PT and had a CM ( continual motion) machine in my house that I spent 6 hours a day in. I've been to numerous specialists and done everything asked of me although I drew the line when they suggested a spinal chord stimulator. My doctors are all at the NYhospital for Special Surgery so I consider myself lucky that I am in good hands although so far no one has been able to help me. I just had another procedure done last week. They don't want to go back into the knee unless they absolutely have to ( which I'm in full agreement of). I've been told by a few different doctors that this could stop all on its own even up to a year and a half later. I've been told ( now that there's a problem) that people who are arthritic tend to do better then someone who is having it done as a result to trauma. I've also been told that older people tend to recover faster and do better with this surgery then someone younger ( I'm 52). I'm not sure why that is but I've heard it more then once. I would say that 8 weeks is cutting it a little close when it comes to being active again. 4 - 6 months seems to be when most people start doing there normal activities again. I'm around a lot of these people these days so I'm basing that on what I've been seeing. Hope all goes well for you.
  8. Pan for gold from home!
  9. I thought they changed it to "climate change".....
  10. Not all there?.... She's a total whack job!!
  11. The black swan theory or theory of black swan events is a metaphor that describes an event that comes as a surprise, has a major effect, and is often inappropriately rationalized after the fact with the benefit of hindsight. I read quite a bit of the article. Then I had to stop. Interesting enough that I'll go back to it. Such a fragile system and some many ways it can totally go wrong"..........led by dummies. YIKES
  12. Ok now I get it. Man, so simple when you finally get it. Just a different kind of common sense but they try to confuse you because they don't really want you to know the truth.
  13. This makes it real clear. So... We are spending way more then we should be every month Aka more then is coming in. What they keep gloating about is that we are not doing that as badly now as we have in the past. The way you hear them say it the numbers have really been making progress but the reality is it's going to take another however many years only to see another 1 or 2% decline and we still won't have broken even. All this doesn't mean shit really...right?
  14. See that's kind of my point. You have no knowledge of how they got the job. Simple because they work for a network (I'm guessing) that you don't agree with you put them down. And again, because they make money they aren't - what good people? Again you have no first hand knowledge of any of them - who's judging who? Just because someone "fills up boxes of money" does that make them bad? Could it be possible that they worked hard, got educated, spent time building a career and got to the top? Isn't that a good thing? Why the hate for successful women? When I do watch the news, it's usually FOX so your guessing wrong. To be honest though I don't watch too much tv. As for lucky breaks, well I'm pretty sure it's safe to say if your at the top of your game in any field, you've probably had a lucky break or two. I'm not taking away any of the hard work it took to still get to the top. I could never do what they do without first dedicating years of hard work to it first even if it was offered to me and then still don't claim I would be smart enough. I'm at the top of my game out here and have beautiful equipment with crazy hp, lots of chrome and lights and mostly have decent freight on my deck. I've worked my ass off to get here but I can also be grateful for some lucky breaks. Nor can either they or I start slacking because they reached the top. And about the money thing...you mentioned the money and how the quantity seemed important. I was questioning how that mattered really. I do think they sell their souls though. Call me judgmental I guess... Both sides do it. They get on one side of issues and ride them till the wheels fall off regardless of what it pertains. You can't possibly tell me that everyone in those seats believes 100% of everything they're saying. Every issue has two sides...you don't get honest debate from either side.
  15. ....and somewhere along the line caught incredibly lucky breaks but in turn had to sell their souls and spew nonsense regardless of what network your talking about. How much money someone's making is a weird way of judging character... So much more to life then filling up boxes full of money.
  16. I must have reread your answer 10 times trying to get a better handle on the subject. I appreciate you taking the time. The systems screwed up because even if you do try to understand it to some degree they just completely confuse you with more bs. I mean that for either side and not blaming any one party over another. Just the other day I googled "defecit" to try and learn more without all the added in confusion but still didn't really get it or how It fit into all this. If I understand you correctly then what your saying is that whether it's 3.6 or 1.8 is trivial and either way it's more debt which isn't a good thing. In my world I don't like any debt if I can help it. That's how I like to roll... I've seen people say that debt isn't necessarily a bad thing and that's just how all this stuff works. Maybe it is, but it does seem like its really high to me. You do hear the term " defecit spending" thrown around so loosely all the time and how it's going down which has you believing something good is coming of it. I'm sure it's intended that way and that most people would accept it as such and move on. Well I finally got curious enough and did try to understand it just a little more but as I said didnt walk away knowing too much more. Ill bet I'm not the only one clueless so I figured I'd ask the question and try to get a straight answer without the spin from one side or another. Thanks. Common sense spending reform.... Interpreted to mean, what is considered wasteful spending today will be cut from the budget to be replaced by something that will be wasteful tomorrow? That about sum that up? And...as for the Medicare, medic aide hype well, one of those programs is saving because the other one isn't...yes? So they tell you they're saving with one program but they're not saying that another program is getting hit harder. This is another topic where there's no real straight answers and you just hear either sides story. My family has been lucky enough to always have had good coverage through my wife's " real" job. Common sense would seem to tell you that not everyone will have access to all sorts of coverage and no one would see costs go up. In a perfect world I'm sure it would be a beautiful thing that everyone could be covered but the fact is too many people are just looking for that free ride and that's not fair. Anyway, I'll try not to be too long winded here.
  17. I always sort of prided myself on common sense ( except for the fact that I thought a plane landed on one wing the other day ) but I didn't hear much common sense in all that graph stuff. Not to mention, we keep hearing the same old infrastructure job stuff but I don't see any spike in highways being repaired or bridges being fixed or built. If money is being spent in that stuff, it never seems to make it to the final phase of actually happening. Thanks for clearing it up for me!
  18. I think someone's just jealous cuz they weren't invited to the award dinner and didn't have two professional whores wanting to give up poontang in the coat room for free!
  19. I'm posting this here in hopes to keep politics out of it and just try and get a better understanding of what he says in this video, and if it " functionally" works the way he says it does. If I'm still wrong for posting it here I'm sorry and hope it can be moved. http://youtu.be/F82oKU6Url4
  20. Yeah...guess you right. Didn't really give it a whole lot of thought...let's just say I was multi tasking when I saw it and posted it here. The guy that posted it, that is his real name. We're both owner ops running the 48. I known him for years.
  21. Can we see proof or should we chalk it up to you tooting your own horn...
  22. When my wife leaves the seat down it gets all wet everytime the dog drinks from the toilet. Wouldn't it just be better if we left them up all the time? This way when your drunk friends come over they won't pee on the seat either.
