No you can't walk you kids home ... WTF?
swisschris62 replied to shropshire's topic in Speakers Corner
The way I understood it is that the school just recently started this new policy because of all the stories in the news that revolve around schools. So the school implemented a new policy and didn't even think to add another lane in front of the building and instead parents line up on the shoulder, which in and of itself isn't the safest place to be parking. Now if this guy had parked his car and walked the last few feet in order to beat the system and avoid the line I would agree that he is partially to blame for the situation that happened but... He didn't park and then walk up ... He actually walked to the school to get his kids. I guess he's within walking distance. If that's the case then how else would he get his kids? You can't really go stand behind the last car in line and stay in the line as if you were in a car. -
But are the situations really being "controlled" or does the "control" fuel the chaos? Seems like the people who are benefiting the most/getting the richest from all of this control are actually doing things that are equal to or in some cases far worse then the people they decide to go to war against.

I was referring to that way back when interview. I wasn't attacking any one president in particular. In one breath they were saying there was this massive man hunt, in the next breath they had a live interview. I'm glad that boogeymans gone... But man, there sure are a whole lotta boogeymen over there...this could literally go on forever. Kinda like the drug war...that's not "winnable" either

Are you hauling for a company that crosses on a regular basis which makes it easier for you guys. I know a lot of guys that quit going mainly because of the border hassle....freight ( that pays) coming back being a secondary issue. And then of course, i also have a truck I won't turn down to get into other parts. The time they wanted to lock up my dog was enough for me though, all because that day some supervisor wanted to bust balls. I'll just stay down here where I'm familiar with most of the suprises they throw at you. On a side note, you hear about the dot guys that got busted up there? They were bribing owners of companies to pay them on some sort of sliding scale as per how many trucks they were sending across. Owners that paid, dot looked the other way. Owners that didn't pay, got level 1's and were either delayed a bunch or put out of service for trivial stuff. I'm not suggesting it only happens up there....

Another class act of a mayor... This one in Monticello NY. Over 3 hours of footage of him handcuffed to a wall in the police station. He's got some choice words for the cops and quite a few racist rants. Real class act....

Quite the crew they found in the woods... Which of the 4 you think had the drone?

I don't cross into Canada at all anymore because of all the crap you have to put up with at the crossings. About 5 years ago I went to cross and they held me up because I didnt have papers in the truck for my dog. I'd been across so many times I would recognize most of the guys there and they knew me AND knew I had a dog. The dog came up in conversation lots of times in the past. Even though I have tags on the dog, they wanted papers or they were going to quarantine her ( which I would have been billed for). So I call my wife, who was at work to send them to me. She has to run home, find these papers ( which almost didn't happen) and then faxed them to me. In 25+ years on the road at the time I'd never been asked for papers for my dog?that was the last straw for me with crossing. I've heard from lots of guys it's only gotten stupider.

I'm not quick to side with grue here but in my heart I wish I felt as though we were doing the right thing in the world. But we are not! I'd rather stand on the side line and keep my mouth shut because to open it makes everyone think your something less then a patriot and a true flag waving American. But the bottom line is we ARE the bully and we are getting involved in things we shouldn't be getting involved in and trying to get people to be like us who don't want to be. I don't suggest there aren't bad guys out there but if the United States truly was nothing but the bringer of goods and peace we wouldn't have near the problems. If someone was doing to us what we do to them, each and every one of us would be out there fighting them with whatever we had to fight with. Is it really that hard to see what's really going on? Are we just ok with letting them spy on us and continually chip away at our freedoms? Are we really ok with people flying radio controlled planes in foreign countries from bunkers within the states to kill people at will because someone thinks they "got their man"? And if innocent people get killed in the process flippantly brush it off with a, "well they shouldn't have been there" When will enough be enough? Are people really that blind? Some things are just to in your face obvious. People watch infomercials late at night and think...who would ever buy that crap but yet 8 hours earlier that same persons watching the news buying up everything they're telling you...REALLY? I know...bring on the tin foil hat remarks....and the rest of you that don't want to start saying how you really feel because your afraid you'll be a little less "American" keep being quiet but don't start crying when it's actually happening to you.

Anyone have experience with WWOOF Deutschland?
swisschris62 replied to NewGuy2005's topic in The Bonfire
This started up during the war in Europe. Farmers were off fighting and other people would work the farm. My uncle would get help on his farm in Switzerland through a program like this almost every year. My brother runs the farm now and he gets a couple of people every summer. In German it was called " land dienst" ( which I may have spelled incorrectly). They did this long after the war too...I assume so farmers could get help and people got work experience. -
By your definition my whole family is a black sheep... I didn't even know how to answer before this because none of us "really ever " fucked up" ( in a real bad way anyway) but yet none of us fall into a " leave it to beaver" type of family. The Cleavers weren't normal" were they? My dad owned as many as 15 trucks and trucked for 50+ years. All his trucks were the nicest trucks on the road. My dad loved his trucks and his drivers and they loved him and stayed with him for years. They were all like family. We ran the business from the house and had a shop to work on trucks out back so the guys were always in and out. My mom found freight and dispatched all of us. If any of us have any "normal"in us it would have to be her. Me...I'm definately not "normal" My brother ( middle kid)...moved to Switzerland and went to work for my uncle on his farm. He now runs that farm with his family, my uncle is still alive and he still lives in the house. My brother, also definately not normal and strong as an ox. He's a real hard worker, great family man with 4 kids of his own but crazy in his own way. My sister...probably the craziest of the bunch. She too lives in Switzerland. By day she some executives assistant for a big bank. Sounds pretty normal right...WRONG! She's a black belt in one of the martial arts. She climbs up jagged mountain walls, sets up hammocks on those climbs and sleeps in places I wouldn't sleep ( or climb for that matter). She played tennis professionally. She snow sky with the Swiss ski team till she wrecked one year real bad and blew out her knee...she still skis but toned it down a little. She bought a motorcycle and went on a 4 month adventure on dirt roads where they ran into lamas and Sherpas and who knows what else. In some of her pictures from that trip she's covered in dirt from the dusty roads her and her friend traveled. She scuba dives...something she took up about 5 years ago. I honestly can't even keep up with her. Not sure she's " normal" either....

I'm with you on choice a and b. C was me being stupid. Fear not, I'm not moving to virginia. I'll either stay in n. Ca or head to n.m. or west Texas. Btw...I'm all for guns and people being able to protect themselves. Your not under any sort of dillusion that because I'm from Ca. I would opt to dial 911 first ...I hope.

I'm home. I seen all this nasty weather coming and dead headed home 700 miles the other night. Didn't see any decent paying freight on the board and decided to just come home. Probably find something high paying Friday because someone's going to need a truck and a lot of guys won't come back out till Monday. The month of December my company contracts trucks to UPS every year. You volunteer for it and your not committed to doing it but it pays decent and it's pretty easy work. UPS gets so much freight this time of year they can't haul it all and we run their extra. You pull their trailers, mostly empty and return them to terminals so they can fill them again. I probably won't be out your way again till March unless something real high paying comes my way. After Xmas the truck is going to CAT to get rebuilt. Have a nice thanksgiving and try and stay warm out there!

Most of the places I end up...I'd probably get beaten up. Probably more trouble then it's worth to find out. I'll just take Johnny's word for it...he says he didn't get arrested. -
Sorry, I can't wrap my head around that stuff. My wife is smarter when it comes to that stuff. I know our numbers are no where near that nor do I think they need to be, but that's just me. My land is payed for, my house on a seperate property is 3 years away from being paid off, we have about 200g in stock ( which gained about 30g this year bringing it back around where it was) and my wife has her 401k at work with another 100g or so ( she is a public servant, school, and has 3 years left. Her pension isn't paying 44g a month though. Oh and my truck and trailer are fully paid off. I plan on slowing it down in the next few years. Maybe I'm totally fooling myself but I think we will be ok. I never really want to quit work altogether just maybe scale it back and go on the road during the warm weather months. Hell I actually thought we were doing pretty good.

Maybe he should have gotten the 800 dollar model BMW and invested some money into having her tits fixed.
-
Trust me, I know all about its dysfunction. I grew up north of redding Ca. I pick up and deliver freight in Oakland all the time. I don't go to bed west of Sacramento when I'm in the Bay Area.
-
Not sure "taking out the truck" is an accurate description... I would say the truck was delayed though which in Yellow's world can really mess with timing in their ltl operation. As for that trailer door...I'd be suprised if yellow even fixed it. I'd be even more suprised if it ever got washed.

Just curious... If I was to put on a skin tight body suit and was gyrating my body all over a foam finger in a public place.... You think I could get arrested? -
I know, I get it...his attitude just really showed of a city more or less out of control and how numb they've become to it. I guess if it's more or less open season after a certain hour you wouldn't want to have to work overtime and come home after the witching hour.
