Wide Angle Lense = Lower Quality Recording?
Pzilly replied to nakedfool's topic in Photography and Video
I am stuck in the same situation, I am not sure what lens to use on the CX100, B&H sent me this tid bit: "The VCL-HG0730A is the best choice because it screws onto the camcorder without any adapters and the quality is superb (it is compatible with HD) . All these lenses screw on but for example the VCL-HGE07A has a 37mm thread diameter so you would need to use an adapter ring. I would only recommend using an adapter ring if there is no other choice. The Century DS-55WA-37 is an excellent quality lens but it is not zoom through." I have seen a girl with a VCL-HG0730A and is is not very bulky, but it is a .7 so I still don't know where to toss my 125-189 bucks??????????? She said she wishes it was a bit wider, but it is not to bad, problem for me is I am just about to start jumping a cam, she has been doing it awhile and probably knows where she has to be, guess it is all trial and error, give and take no matter what. Hey Froggie, Having just gone through the first gear thing a year a ago I can tell you it is not an easy task, and if you have yet to jump under a solo chute I would wait for at least 25 jumps before you purchase anything, I went from a 280 first 10 jumps to a 265 for next 15 jumps to a 230 for about 20 jumps before I purchased my 230 spectre, which is considerably faster than the 230 student chute I was jumping because of spectra, and collapsible slider and pilot chute. But if you are set on it I recommend a new container then find used chutes and AAD. If you wait till you get 25-50 jumps in then you will be able to tell where you may want to end up and a container should allow for 2 downsizes depending on type and so on. I ended up going all new in the end, I got great service on my Mirage G4 and PD main from Mike at chutingstar and then my DZO found me a new smart reserve and Vigil II both for about 2k from a supply house that was moving, so for about a grand over quailty used it is all me, fits and I know it's complete histroy, yes it was rough to part with 5400 bucks but I sold a race bike of mine and I am glad I did! With the exception of hip rings which I didn't care much for it has all options and it is all mine. Good luck and no matter which way you go have a top notch rigger check it out. You will never miss a slice of the "pie", unless it is the last slice!!!!

I recieved my Inversion on jump 7 of my AFF, and now have about 20 jumps on it and it has worked great! I like the fact it is more compact than the others as this is less of a chance for it to snag something. Dave from freefall acc worked with me to give it a unique look adding a smily face at 11 and a frown at 1 (or you could call it an " O sh!t face if things aren't going your way") He also added my nick name and custom color numbers and all this was done for cheap in my opinion. I could not say enough for the customer service and quick replies, they were top notch, and when they ran behind due to being at a few boogies Dave quick shipped it on his dime to make the date he promised me without me even having to ask him to do that. As I said I see no draw backs to this item, only one I could possibly see is if your eye sight is not the best at close range, but that would be about it if at all as I have no issues seeing it even with the custom color of the numbers. I love the smaller size actually, but have noticed some guys like a much bigger alti. This piece has been a great conversation starter, being a newbie I usually do most of the listening, but when someone sees it in the plane or on the ground the subtle custom additions make a nice ice breaker. I would like to thank Dave yet again for a great product and outstand customer service!! Top notch in my book! UPDATE 1-23-09 Well now that I have about 50 jumps on my Inversion it took not one but 2 whacks one on an over crowed over head bin on a commercial flight to Zhills and the other I just found out was it got knock off the table at Zhills and went 20 feet across the patio. I sent it back to Dave at Free fall acc and Dave recieved it Monday 1-19-09 with my email telling him it was now working well until it got to about 1000' AGL, at the time I did not know about the table mishap, I just heard about that from a jump mate when I told him about the great service I got from Dave, my jump mate thought I already knew someone knocked it off the table. Anyway today is Friday 1-23-09 and I have my Altimeter back in my hands (wish it was on my hand-lol) it has been repaired, recalibrated, and although there was only 2 minor scratches on it the lens was replaced and shipped back to me all for the great price of ZIP, NADA, ZERO, that's right Dave did not charge me a dime for any of it, so in my way of repaying Dave I am writing this, and no he did not ask me too. These guys are truly top notch and stand behind their product, which is uber rare these days. Kudos Dave and thank you Sir! Blue Skies!
