Swooping is fun when done right.
Decodiver replied to Pablo.Moreno's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I'm always up for learning new things, so excuse the ignorance...but when would a 180 front riser HP landing be a good idea but a brake turn not? By braked flight I mean not having the opportunity to use extra speed to ensure landing where it is safe as opposed to doing braked turns I have no problem with braked turns but have chosen to crack a 180 landing out on the side of a mountain, it gave me more options than landing my canopy in brakes. The point is having the option and ability to do it safely, just another tool in the box. Do you see a downside to having this type of tool? -

Well, I have heard experienced swoopers say that it can be better to skip a 180 and go directly from 90 to 270. But I suppose you don't agree on that. I'm talking about a number of things which add up in my own sorry-arsed opinion to disagreeing with the title Swooping is fun when done right. I too have heard a number of people talk about skipping from 90s to 270s but what are you going to do the day you need to do a 180 for an HP landing into a tight spot when you're off DZ and braked flight is not an option or a good idea? -

There's a bit more to training than a down-winder in 5mph but of course everybody has to start somewhere I guess we've all had close calls though thank god I wouldn't call a close call an impact which is what this is In a rush to do something maybe? Start to see a trend here? From a Saber 170 to a 139 maybe, 2 close calls (these were close calls) 90 straight to 270......... So having had a sight picture for 90s but not 180s after a lay-off the decision was made to go 270s. Not a good idea, see because a sight picture for a 270 is made up of lots of sight pictures of 90s, lots of sight pictures of 180s and lots of sight pictures of 270s...... Now do you see why I'm gonna get some popcorn? -

Video link to wingsuit landing here
Decodiver replied to Anvilbrother's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I for one am completely blown away by what Gary has done. He set himself a challenge, risk assessed the possibility and went and did it. I know he is a stuntman and as such is used to risk-assessing events, however what he has done here is truly inspiring. Not inspiring in that I or anyone with a wingsuit would be mad enough to try and copy this feat, more inspiring in the way he just got on with it and did it. A small guy amongst a huge amount of boxes, true genius. -
Wishing Gary all the luck of an Irishman I have. Fly safe Gary and we wait with baited breath. Coops.

NZ Aerosports lost my canopy, doesn't care about it
Decodiver replied to javiaven's topic in Gear and Rigging
The OP has not had good service that is clear from what they relate. I am on my 7th and 8th canopies from NZ Aerosports and their customer service in relation to me has been nothing less than exemplary. -
Don't know where you got that from, they sell a huge amount of sport canopies in France and have recently brought out a new harness the Legend'R2.

About digital altimeters batteries

As an aside L&B recommend RENATA CR 2325 batteries for the Optima and Viso. -
Cutaways/Reserve rides..Who's the king of Chops

4 of which 2 were spinning mals as a result of brake fires and 2 which were lower speed unlandable canopies. -
Stela hi, I have 2 Tonfly Uno 620s which I use for free flying and they are comfortable have a lot of power range and are of great quality. Tonfly customer service is also first class. I have a Sonic tunnel suit which I occasionally use in the sky and have no problems with the quality of that suit either. Probably won't help but if I had to choose one over another I would go with the Tonfly suits. Cheers, Coops.

I have always had to second to none customer service from Sunpath and i'm on my 5th and 6th rig from them. Phone or email always responsive either Larry or Dave, they've been great.

I'm 44, married 10 years this year and have 2 girls one is 6 and one is 3. I also have a life to live so I live it. I try to minimize risks and be sensible. My wife doesn't think I'm selfish. My uncle does, but he's never done anything fucking dangerous in his whole life, so fuck him.

Don't underestimate your speed
Decodiver replied to leandercool's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
He's a fucking idiot is what he is. A good example of how filming something distracts people from the job in hand. By holding (not pulling down) his right front riser he could have twisted his body in the harness facing himself side on to the direction of landing then completed a side on PLF. I've done 89 drops like that at night in daytime etc and some as low as 110 meters without any problem. Someone should stick his wings up his ass.....the whole purpose of being a Para is being combat effective when you land being airborne is like taking the bus, it's just a way of getting to work. -
Canopy Collision video (thankfully non fatal)
Decodiver replied to Fallcoholic's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Before doing a 4-way, one should be reasonably proficient at doing a 3-way and before doing a 3-way one should be very proficient at doing a 2-way. This guy could lose himself on a solo.............and he's retarded to have landed that piece of shit. -
Fuck me flying this backwards is hard work!

Holding the PC after extraction longer than needed?
Decodiver replied to Tsynique's topic in Safety and Training
Two bits of advice which will serve you well in skydiving. Throw you're PC like your life depends upon it Why? Because your life depends upon it & Track on break-off like your life depends upon it Why? Because your life depends upon it Get the idea? Coops. -
I have always had Freefly handles on my custom-made rigs and never had any problems finding the handle and deploying and I wear gloves all year round. I spend most of my time in the air head-down or in sit. One of the guys at my DZ this season broke his finger putting it through the tube at deployment and Monkey Fists scare the shit out of me with people moving around. One of the things I do with new-gloves when they are not worn in is to wear them around the house for a day, getting used to performing well known and mundane tasks with the gloves on, a tip I picked up commercial-diving when i did all my kit checks and kitting up in the gloves I wore to work. Teaches you excellent dexterity. Cheers, Coops.

We had one Advance tandem rig at our DZ and about 10 Parachute de France tandems. The Advance doesn't wear as well and was showing signs of wear and tear after 2 seasons whilst the PdF rigs just keep going. Cheers, Coops.

1.61 wing loading on 150 sq ft, at 230 total jumps?
Decodiver replied to skydiverek's topic in Safety and Training
It's a dumb idea for all the reasons listed above. This guy is a potentially lethal meat-bomb that may just be fortunate to take only himself out, or maybe take some others with him too. It's a shit idea! -
Don't waste your money on a Xfire 1, it's like buying a 2CV dated and over rated - go with a Xfire 2 you won't regret it. Coops
