I agree that your eyes are the best altitude sensing device. I have had my dytter quit on me and have had the face plate blow off my Alti2 twice. If the ground looks big, you are probaly close. Wave off and pull. Danger

Never had a problem with the riser covers. It may be a problem with the size of the reserve or how it is packed. I had problems with the shark fin tab so I had it removed and replaced with 2 aligator teeth. Never had a problem since. Danger

I have been jumping my Safire for 3 years now and never had a problem landing it. I constantly out swoop Stilettos under my 109. Danger

I agree with the comments stating it is probaly a result of the way the reserve is packed. Less fabric in the 'ears' of the reserve stopped my risers covers from untucking. Danger

I never look up at my canopy as it opens. This puts you in danger of injuring your neck with a hard opening. With a hard opening the slider may come over your links and interfer with your helmet. Putting your chin to your chest can also be dangerous if there is a hard opening. Your neck muscles are near there strech limit and that snappy opening may over extend those muscles. Watch the horizon as the canopy opens. This keeps your spine in a nice straight line allowing movement either way. If need be grap your chin cup with the left hand upon deployment to stabilize your neck. The best advice is learn by FEEL how your canopy opens so you don't have too watch it everytime. Danger

Both of my hard shell helmets have had the shield removed so I can get a bit of air on my face. Danger

I have around 700 jumps on a Viper120. About 20-30 of those had line twists. No wild spins but I did chop once from line twists. Opened at 2000', had several line twists that wound up to about 8 twists before I chopped. Never spun me out of control. Danger

The short answer is .... Yup! Danger -
Personal record for tandem vids shot in one day?
Danger replied to airdrew20012001's topic in Photography and Video
My record for Tandem videos in a single day is 12 out of cessnas. Most video jumps in a single day is 13 doing video for a 4 way team. Danger -
I leave from the rear of the door on Cessna exits. Let go just when they exit the door. I tuck my arms behind my back and put my feet on my butt and fly with my shoulders. This exits drops me straight down which is the way a tandem falls. For freefall I get slightly below on my belly. From video shot of me filming a tandem it shows my body on about a 25-35 degree angle to the horizon. This is accomplished using a winged camera suit to lift the upper body into position and using the booties to not backslide. Every once in awhile you can see the passenger, tandem master and drogue at the same time. For the tandem opening shot I continue to watch the tandem as they open lifting my upper body and flying on my knees. Hope this helps Danger

Hey Remi, Hows Karen? Ya I remember you. How is life in jolly ole England? Danger

The team did around 70 jumps. We haven't looked at # of points yet. The camp was to learn each others abilities, learn the exits, formations and get ready for the coming season. And as a last comment. No beer owed. I have 'paid' over 20 cases (of 24) over the years. If you could think of something new that I did in Florida then I would probaly pay for that too. Danger

Just returned home from a training camp at Deland. It was my 4th (or 5th) training camp there and like all the other times I was very impressed. Half way into the camp my video camera decided to give me some grief. It quit during a dub down and wouldn't eject the tape. After trying all the tricks to get it working I finally had to hit the reset button. That just completley shut the camera down. Gus Wing (one of the great guys in this sport) offered an older minidv camera to finish off the camp. Gus, thanks again. Just wish I had more time to pick your brain. From the packers to the coaches to Mike and Bob everything was taken care of the best way possible. Danger

Other questions that people should ask themselves before buying a small reserve are: "Can I land this with one good arm?" - after collision "How will this canopy land with me unconscious under it?" - after collision "How will this canopy land downwind?" - opened low, no time to turn. "How will this canopy land with no flare?" - multiple scenarios Stay close to the manufacturers recommended exit weight and NOT the TSO testing weight. I fully agree with billvon "going larger on your reserve is always" "a good decision". Danger
-
For your information the manufacturers recommended suspended weight is 132lbs. You will be overloading it by over 60lbs!!! Danger
-
This means you will be loading your reserve at 1.6. Way too high. Danger

First off, a downplane can be survivable. It depends on the sizes of the canopies involved. I have seen a Manta/Raven 4 downplane into the ground with non-life threatening injuries. The side by side and biplane situations are landable. Danger

A guy asks a serious question that could save his life and you respond with that! Danger

It is possible. Live air to ground video has been used several times in 4way competitions. I believe in Gap, France and in Arizona. Check with the Ted Wagner ay www.omniskore.com Danger

How much of a difference is there in the spec's for my 1995 Viper120 to the spec's on your website? Danger
-
Just remove the face plate and use googles. At least you get a bit of air on your face! ;) No closed in feeling either. Danger

Funny, I jump a 120 Viper (loaded 1.4) and have very soft openings. I bought it brand new in 95 and and it still flys great. Although it is time for a new line set. Not bad for my backup canopy. And it still outswoops 120 Stillettos. Danger

Asking questions is the best place for you to start doing video and I am glad to see that you are not above asking any question. The Hi8 camera will do quite well for you. As somebody else mentioned tape up all areas where air could get into the camera. This is the biggest cause of camera flutter and it makes a big difference in finished video. Use Gaffers tape when taping as you will be untaping and taping a lot. Pay close attention to the cassette door. I believe a lot of air gets in there. As for coming from a small DZ, no worries mate. Most jumpers come from small dropzones. And a lot of the jumpers at big dz's came from small dz's too. Keep learning and keep asking questions. Danger

Originally I had a basic Sony Hi8 on a home built helmet. I then moved to a Sony Digital8 on a Flattop. (This camera is now for sale, check it out in the classifieds). I currently jump a Sony PC9 on the Flattop. Gotta love Sony! Danger
