79 pre planed on a 3 canopy system. 25 for real. 1 Total. And my packers always hate me. Wow! What a fun hog you are. Onward and Upward!

If you include ego there are really six 1. cameras 2. CRW 3. Broken risers (Mostly corrected now with re-inforced risers but there are still some old risers out there attached to RSL's) Heavy guys jumping mini risers and they bust one and fire the reserve into the main. 4. Three ring hang ups. Again mostly a problem on older gear but if it don't release on one side and the RSL side goes then you have a big problem. This can also happen on new gear that is not properly maintained and checked. You are supposed to flex and check your 3 rings every 30 days and nobody does that. 5. And this is a big one..... Premature deployments on the step or in the door. A few years back some good friends of mine had an incident that made national news. One jumper was climbing out on the step of a 182 and had his main container open and the bag and lines wrapped around the wing strut. As the main started to deploy he chopped it and left and opened his reserve. If he would have had an RSL he would have fired his reserve into the tail and been killed and likely every one else on board. After he left all the other jumpers and the pilot jumped and the plane crashed with no one on board towing a main canopy. Freak accident for sure but on that day not having an RSL saved 5 lives. An RSL would have killed all of them. Now some will say you can always disconnect it but then why? In this situation it might save you but in this situation it might not. So on this jump I will attach it and on this jump I won't. so then you start playing mind games and when you need it, it's not hooked up and when you don't want it it is. It's a crap shoot folks, I have never jumped with an RSL but after having two shoulder surgeries on my left side I am considering it. The gear is much better than it used to be so maybe one of those new fangled skyhooks might save my ass if I have a stroke or pop a shoulder. In the end it is a personal choice. And JP, I love ya man but 79 cutaways? Dude, does your packer hate you or do you have a stability problem? Onward and Upward!

No, we're not that organized. Ask Meso.

How does one go about asking for permission? If permission is granted are all the mods notified so the thread is not deleted? Thanks Onward and Upward!

Well, just about everyone has a camera on these days and i will be doing some shooting myself. I am also trying to get some support from the local media. I believe hop and pops are $15 each Onward and Upward!

YEah I think he was in Brush Prairie for a while.. but that was long gone when I moved to Vancouver in 1981. I think by then he was already over at Mollala and Ted Mayfield had Sheridan over by McMistacadanville. Ralph is over at Skydive Eagle Creek in Estacada now... and has been there for a long time.. filling up all those buildings with skydiving gear history I grew up at Estacada as a teenager, and made over 1000 jumps out of the Beaver. those were the days. I worked for Ralph full time for almost 10 years, Onward and Upward!

Didn't Ralph run a dz up in that area in the 60's? I have made many jumps at pierson and Evergreen as well Onward and Upward!

Wow! thanks so much for the generous donations. I will do my best to make it worth it. I never expected this, I figured I would foot the bill for the whole thing. Anyway, this is going to happen so let's do it. Onward and Upward!

When do you plan to to this and where? I am assuming your gonna use the 182 all day jumping from 2200? I will help but if you plan on making more then 1 jump I better not help with the packing Skydive Ogden at 6:oo am on March 22nd. 2 grand hop and pops and maybe a big way on the last load. I expect we will use the 182 for most of the jumps. I have a FB page set up with further info. Onward and Upward!

And when and where was that Jerry? Onward and Upward!

Best 50 bucks I ever spent. Oh, and a case of beer. I was told to buy one and then my Jumpmaster chewed my ass for opening a beer before the last load took off. I didn't know the rules since I was just a wuffo with a certificate. I thought he was an asshole but he did hook up my static line. Onward and Upward!
-
I paid 75 bucks in 1976...and I didn't get no stinkin' certificate!! $75? Did they cuddle with you after the jump? Onward and Upward!
-
I paid 50 bucks for that certificate! Which at the time seemed like a lot Onward and Upward!

Sargent pepper taught the band to play.... I stepped out of a perfectly good airplane for the first time on March 22 1981. Seriously, I am planning to make 30 jumps in one day to promote Autisim awareness. I need support and packers, any donations would be greatly appreciated. Any funds above and beyond the cost of doing the jumps will be donated to charity. I think I can do it, wish me luck Onward and Upward!

Skydive Ogden in Utah has a beautiful Grand Caravan. Onward and Upward!

I said the late 90's instead of the early 90's The early 90's was the correct answer. I stand corrected. Well done sir! Onward and Upward!

Translation; Some of the board members own drop zones and let their kids jump. This new BSR will not change that. I am not trying to make the numbers anything, they are what they are. Onward and Upward!
-
Ok, I hate to argue with people I tend to agree with most of the time , but tandems were considered "experimental" until the late 90's. I don't have to go too far back in time for my analogy to be correct. Unless you just started jumping in the last 10 years. How does the old saying go? Skydiving began when I started jumping? Onward and Upward!
-
The norm has always been one skydiver, two parachutes. So by your reasoning tandems are abnormal. Which is essentialy true. Tandem allows dual instruction and the entire jump from exit to landing is "dual" We are basically landing a MR. BILL each time but with extra safety precautions. You know like an extra harness 2 bigger parachutes, and a drouge. Tandem jumps are nothing more than a "safe" Mr. Bill Onward and Upward!

My son, who started 'in front of me' at the age of eight and made his fist solo SL jump at his sixteenth birthday probably disagrees with that statement. Furthermore, everybody we strap in front of us is somebodies son, daughter, wife, husband, parent - it comes with the territory. MY legal system (the Netherlands) acknowledges from the age of twelve on that they are independent legal beings - to be heard by the judges in case of medical treatments for cancer or where they want to live in case of a divorce. Wether the whole world falls under US jurisdiction remains to be seen. Other than that "When in Rome..."

Dave, I personally think 18 is a good age to start skydiving regardless of method. I remember the time when 16 with parental consent was the norm but in this day and age of liability it only makes sense to wait until 18 and that is how we operate at my DZ. But my opinion is my own and I would not tell another DZ in another state how to conduct their business. I do not think USPA needed to get involved in this and create a new BSR. They could simply say that they encourage skydivers to follow manufactures guidelines and leave it at that. Age of consent laws vary from state to state, we do not need to dictate local protocols and become a federal overlord for individual businesses and concerns. In the US you can solo a powered aircraft at age 16 and obtain a private pilot license at 17 but now USPA is going to mandate you can't jump out of one until you are 18? Besides that, this new BSR pertains to only tandems and SL, IAD, and AFF are not included. How backwards is that? You can make a solo jump at 16 but if you want to make a jump with a qualified tandem instructor you have to wait two more years? That would be like telling a 16 year old he can solo an airplane the first flight but if he wants to fly with a flight instructor he or she must wait until he is older. I do not see this as giving us more legal protection, if anything it will set USPA up for more lawsuits, do nothing to improve safety, and flood us with requests for waivers. Once you pass a BSR it is about impossible to rescind it down the road if you later discover it was a bad idea. You are pretty much stuck with it. We considered this when the wingloading BSR was proposed. You may disagree with my opinion but if the vote count phree posted is correct then 4 bod members were against it, 3 could not decide and 2 didn't care. so you have 9 BOD were not pro new-BSR as you are. wouldn't you like to know who they were and why? Rich, thanks for your reply, we may not agree on this issue but I do respect you for stating how you voted and why. To bad not all members have the same integrity. All votes should be by name so we know how our elected officials stand on the issues. Members of congress can not vote in secrecy and neither should the BOD. After each meeting the issues voted on and how each member voted should be made public and posted on the USPA website. Onward and Upward!
-
Agreed! It should be public record for all USPA members to see. Onward and Upward!
-
13 for 4 against 3 abstaining That is only 20 and there are 22 board members. So, 13 decided to stick their nose in where it doesn't belong, 4 had the good sense to not create a new BSR, 3 did not have the courage to vote either way, and 2 did not even show up. Meet the new board, same as the old board. I would like to know how each member voted, every vote should be by name. Onward and Upward!

What is killing the sport of skydiving?
SStewart replied to cocheese's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Oh, and we used to have a sense of humor too! Thanks for proving my point. Onward and Upward!
