Yeah no shit we want to not only jump it, we want to save it from the junk pile... if it's in good condition and airworthy why let it go to waste. I use a canopy hanger and like um with four hooks, hang four at a time, flake and drop um, wrap um bag um one after the other, I also do inspections on the full rig as I go, takes about 45 mins to an hour fro all four depending on what shit needs fixing along the way. I can do it all day long. TI's and myself like the openings they/I get, no need to be in a hurry about it. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

I don't have a camera plug/switch as of yet. I have always used a blow switch and wired my own plugs on canons and Olympus cameras. However this Sony a6000 has a different type plug/switch into the body. I have yet to see it in person, looks to be a mini USB type plug/switch. Hypoxic and the ranch pro shop advertise having a 2.5 mm to Sony plug/switch adapter. I spoke to Trunk and he was hesitant to sell me one to use on my blow switch/trigger. It this time I will get the camera kit end of this week and take a look at it. Do some more research, maybe buy Trunks cable and try to wire up my blow switch? I'm interested to hear if anyone else is using a blow switch with this camera. I'm not a fan of bite or tongue triggers, they have a history of failing over time. I've had the same blow switch/trigger, going on 20 yrs, never failed. I've had wires and 2.5mm plugs fail always due to broken soldering or wires. Like a lot folks I decided to go with this camera over a canon t6i mostly due to weight and my old guy neck, save the dlsr for those rare high dollar jumps. It has pretty good track record and skydiving reviews. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Longmont City Council will take up skydiving noise

Thanks Mike hi skydiving for providing me a lift during my visit this weekend. I was more then thrilled to have that south to north jump run, and I love the new bumper stickers I got at the dz. I love airplane noise! Looking forward to visiting again, sorry I could not stay longer then a few hours, but I was busy spending my additional tourist dollars all over the front range and in Estes. P.S. Kim Gibbs, your house looks kind of dumpy from the air, and you need to mow the grass. Just saying. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
Blue skies brother, the dives we did were always a lot of fun, I always remember that 3way we did and landed off.... Everyone said, you let Andy spot! RIP Andy, you'll be missed by many. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

I've been looking at the canon t5i. For many reasons, canon in my experience withstands the abuse very well, can use my other lenses and also my triggers, memory cards etc. it also very lite and fairly small. Always been happy with Sony as the only video cams I buy or use for free fall, so willing to bet they build tough still cams too. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

The link will open a city commission meeting video, you need to fast forward to 29:30 to watch this part that pertains to this topic. Now you understand you'll have to watch some really stupid ass comments not only from Kim Gibbs, but her two cheerleading commissioners as well as additional general public. However it will later become clear that mayor Coombs and another comissioner as well as th city mgr and airport mgr all have a clue as to the law as its been explained to them by counsel and the FAA. In fact the mayor gives a pretty good speach, and the others all make pretty good comments about those fact too. it is worth the watching if you really want to understand what is going on here and who is acting the fools. https://m.youtube.com/watch?list=PL8A0A5EA9A2D2CD5C&index=1&v=UxjjS2UwMzo you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
So what you are saying is the only reason the sidewalks are still safe in the great white north (B.C.) is because the overhead electric lines for the buses, prevents your normal sidewalk driving.... Good info to know. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

USPA Central Region Director Candidate....
stratostar replied to WatchYourStep's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
And the reason why you did not see any other skydivers there, other then the gentleman trying to open the dz, is because the perspective dzo was told this would be a meeting with the seven airport board members and the airport manager, to review and talk about the details of the proposed operations. However upon arrival to the airport the perspective dzo finds a lobby full of "public" and hears that chairman of the airport board announce they will be holding a "city commission style public hearing". It was then the perspective dzo learned that one airport board member, Mr Haig, took it upon himself to visit with your boss Jen Sharp at Skydive Kansas. Where, according to him (Mr. Haig), he showed Mrs. Sharp a confidential business plan of the proposed operation and talked in detail all about the proposed competing operation in Lawrence Kansas. Yep pretty surprising to you sitting in the gallery of the seemingly invited public, at the one and only public meeting packed full of invited people who were there to speak and listen to the newly announced "city commission style public hearing" that took place on 3-9-09, along with invitee Life Star medical helicopters director and other airport users. Must have been Mr Haig personal invite that informed you of the meeting or your pal in building and grounds on city staff. Yes you did, I'm sure Mr Haig was rather disappointed in your comments after visiting in person to Skydive Kansas in order to get "facts", as he has stated many times in writing and implies there was more then one visit with your boss. What was interesting in all of that, is you were the only other skydiver in the room and all you had to say on the subject over all was to defend Jen Sharps statements. You didn't really defend skydiving IHMO, and you didn't bother defend the fact that Life Star operates right next door to Skydive Kansas, when the perspective dzo called him on that fact, when stating they couldn't operate on an airport where skydiving takes place and if allowed, it was cause 10 to 20 minute delays in life flight departures. Not a peep was hear out of you. It seemed pretty clear to me you were there for only one reason and those reasons had nothing to do with skydiving, other then to report back to your boss on possible competing operations. You would be correct to a degree, in fact Mr. Haig has put in writing one of the main reasons why he voted down any proposed operations on KLWC was his fact finding tour visits with Jen Sharp and possibly additional KC area dzo's. in the last election when your boss ran, and lost, she was asked directly her thoughts on the "12 pending airport access cases nation wide" her reply was, she didn't know much about the 12 cases, but the two she knows of in her area, those perspective dzo's had acted unprofessional. Kind of funny to not know anything about the 12 cases and then make such bold, yet false statements about current and active airport access cases and those involved in them with in the region. It is pretty clear as you said yourself: Clearly you don't, nor do you have any real idea of anything related to the Lawrence airport access case prior too and during the 2009 "city commission style public hearing" or any interactions there after to the present day. I personally don't believe you are well suited to represent USPA and it's member intrenched in seven year airport access battle, nor the additional USPA members whom have requests pending as well this year 2015. You have a lot to learn regarding the facts on not only this case we speak of, but of the additional requests that have been made post 2009. There is also additional access issues in this region, and on the national level as well. Our current regional director has been a huge help in this case for the last seven years and has a great deal of knowledge on the subject of access over all on the national level, as well as the workings of the FAA at the highest levels in dealing with complex, long drawn out access cases, I'll you and others of the Cresswell Ore. case, it took 8 years to resolve! And for the record, your boss and her ex Jim Sharp tried to move their operations to KLWC in July of 2000. So no I guess it should not be all that surprised to see you in the gallery of invitees to spectate and report back. More so when in the very first meeting with the Asst City Manager and the building a grounds dept. head, your name came up as someone who was known to the City of Lawrence as a skydiver and KU employee as the rowing coach. http://www.lawrenceks.org/assets/public-works/minutes/airport/00Jul.shtml FYI Mr. Rick Bryant chairman of the airport board at the time, was the same guy who you heard making that announcement that the airport board decided to hold a "city commission style public hearing". The unannounced and no public notice issued "public hearing" to provide notice to the citizens of Douglas County as required by law, you know in case they, the citizens wanted to attend it. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

OPINION Kimberly Gibbs: Time has come for sensible noise regulations By Kimberly Gibbs POSTED: 08/01/2015 07:16:50 AM MDT The recent guest opinion (Lewis/Slayter opinion 7/26/2015) touting the positive economic benefits of the Vance Brand Airport was aimed at rallying support for efforts to increase airport operations. The authors claim that further benefits will result from "implementation of the Airport Master Plan," a veiled reference to the airport expansion, and particularly the runway extension that city council unanimously approved in 2012. While you ponder the economic benefits provided as justification, consider the undeniable consequences of airport expansion: more aircraft, more flights, more touch-and-goes, more nighttime flights, more noise and more pollution. In exchange for your tacit approval for airport expansion, the authors, on behalf of the city, promise to "continue working to address noise concerns." Their efforts will include 1) encouraging commercial instead of residential development near the airport, 2) encouraging compliance with the voluntary noise abatement procedures (VNAP) and 3) asking the FAA to enlarge or modify the skydiving "flight box." These promises are distractions, not solutions. What steps have been taken so far? None. In fact, noise from skydiving operations has increased since the recent lawsuit ruling in Mile-Hi's favor. How would future commercial development help the people who are already subjected to the constant droning of the jump planes? Regarding the VNAP, there is no enforcement, no fines and no accountability for pilots who choose not to follow them. Consider that Mile-Hi Skydiving owner, Frank Casares, testified under oath that Mile-Hi pilots consistently follow the noise abatement procedures. Finally, expanding the flight box will only subject more people to the noise and allow more jump planes to operate concurrently. So, what can be done to address noise concerns? Aviation attorney John Putnam presented a lecture in Longmont recently on this topic. The airport receives Airport Improvement Program (AIP) federal grants in exchange for assurances to keep the airport open to all aeronautical users on reasonable terms. The grant assurances limit the operator's ability to adopt regulations to reduce noise. Mr. Putnam stated that "[Grant assurance 22a] does acknowledge that airports can make reasonable rules governing the access to that airport. However, the key piece is that it has to be reasonable." He also noted that a Part 150 noise study is voluntary and not required as a prerequisite for imposing local noise or access restrictions. Mr. Putnam further explained that, in practice, the FAA deems all restrictions to be unreasonable, so it is difficult to justify regulations aimed at reducing noise. Can airports survive without the federal grants? Yes, according to Mr. Putnam, and real-world examples include East Hampton, N.Y., and Santa Monica, Calif. Since 1982, the city has accepted about $4.7 million in AIP grants. That's an average of $204,347 per year - a modest sum that could be collected through airport user fees. Who is really benefitting from the airport? On summer weekends, Mile-Hi Skydiving accounts for nearly 70 percent of operations. Pilot training and touch-and-goes account for another sizable chunk of traffic. Clearly, the airport users are the ones benefitting from the airport and they should pay their fair share for its maintenance, instead of relying on federal taxpayer subsidies that prohibit local control. You are being asked to surrender your rights to accommodate aviation interests - don't allow the soothing promises to lull you into complacency. Remind city officials that the people who live here - both city and county residents who spend their hard-earned dollars in Longmont - are the lifeblood of the community and a high quality of life is worth taking a stand. Would you allow a Longmont business to poison the water or foul the air? No, you would demand regulations to protect the health and well being of its citizens. The time has come for the city to adopt sensible and mandatory regulations to address community noise concerns. Otherwise, the solution will be to disentangle the airport from the onerous demands of the FAA grant assurances in order to restore local control over airport operations. It would nice to keep this thread on topic, so that the powers that be don't get pissed off and lock this one, like another one related to the same topic. While I enjoy a good joke, like many of you, this could be an issue in your local area one day.
