  1. Yeah...ya got the whole rest of your life to get it open and flying, what's the problem?! Then how do you steer clear of someone else under canopy ?, with a reserve lines twisted for instance
  2. After the Vigil ,the Skyhook is your new target ? Not against the Skyhook in particular, but against any MARD in fact, I do not see any need for it, no life has been saved by this device, so far = there is no documented accident (not speaking about rumours) showing someone who killed himself after cutting away so low with just a RSL (no skyhook), but we can expect some fatalities due to rigging errors, unintentional hook of the reserve bridle onto gear or camera equipment during cutaway, reserve deployment with partial or main total horse shoe malfunctions,etc... and the only fact that it is just insane to attach the reserve bridle to the reserve container). There is no need for any MARD in the skydiving sport, but there is for sure a brilliant marketting move who makes the skydivers believe they need it !
  3. Added by slotperfect - this is a spinoff of this thread: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3341014;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed; Worked out nicely. Is it that you call worked out nicely ! All I can see it is a reserve with a twisted lineset coming from the turning main canopy opening inertia , looks quite unsafe to me ! unfortunatly this is one many inconvenients existing with any MARD., the first move from most of the skydivers I know having experimented this type of issue, is to.....disconnect the Skyhook, first time I see a happy one !
  4. Eric, do you have any other information about how that first baton pass happened? I am not sure it was this article Jacques Chalom was speaking about, also I am not very documented about this first baton pas, when I spoke with Jacques Chalom , he told me he did not realize it was something so important at the time he did it...
  5. I would recommend you to buy a Vigil II which is more tested than the Argus and way more advanced than the Cypres and more user's friendly. I personnally had a Vigil I and got 2 firings when needed and can tell you that it worked as designed. How much can we trust someone who already had twice, his back up device saving his life ? and looks proud of it ! how much reliable do you think you are ? For me it looks you are not in a position to give any advices to anyone, except maybe to the guy in charge of the fatality life
  6. The history of baton passes has been a bit mixed up and unclear. It sounds like the first may have been Potron & Chalon in France in '56 => This is correct : when the french did it in 1956, there was an article in some US magazine, the writter said what this act was a shame and he was hoping what this would never be repeated ! By the way, Jacques Chalom is still an active skydiver.
  7. L.O.R 2 - is a good system - I worked with is a lot & saw it in action - I think the reason it never moved out of PdF rigs is the patent & the cosmetic issue & the use of very specific 1.5 mm double Cypres loop only from PdF BUT it was a "good" advanced improvment in case of one riser failure. Quote LOR 2 is the ONLY design which guarantees the reserve will not activate until the main has been totally released (not the case with a Collins lanyard associated with a left riser equipped with a three rings systems out of use). The 20 years patent is over now, but actually there is one other disadvantage on the LOR 2 beside the ones Shlomo wrote, you cannot accomodate a mard device with the LOR 2
  8. About the sigma : this situation should never happen since you do not deal with a 3 rings release system and in peculiar his double end loop, so I do not think the sigma manual speak about it. the older atom tandem rigs had already tuck away risercovers, but the french method is made for all kind of tandems, not for one manufacturer product. my guess is if the Tandem Vector 2 manual is the only one to speak about it, it is probably because the entranglment of the disconneceted main risers with the reserve deployment did happen in the first tandem days..
  9. sorry I made a mistake, I meant in France we teach a different solution, in this situation the tandem master has to cut away before pulling the reserve ripcord..which is not the same than the Vector sorry for the confusion
  10. I have to add that in France we teach a different solution, in this situation , the tandem master has to pull the reserve without cutting away..
  11. thanks for this reply, I have been thinking about this could be the reason, then I gave up because I could not imagine the risers rings going through the big ring , except if risers are loose enough and the risers cover weak..but I guess it is the reason..
  12. in the Tandem Vector 2 Tandem manual (page 88), in case the tandem master pulls both first handle then the secondary drog release handle wand still the main does not release , the tandem master MUST pull the reserve ripcord. Question : do you have any idea why they do not ask the tandem master to cutaway first ? what is the inconvenient to cutaway ? I see only advantages => very often this malfunction is due to the double-ended loop so on the reserve opening chock, the main finally open, and since it is not free to leave ..it becomes an issue. What do you think ?
