  5. You've changed my mind the US is Morally proper country that would never do evil. All we want is to help the world, but most of the rest of the world is evil (we don't know why, but they are). So now it falls upon us to free the world from their dictators that we helped put into power. I'm so glad to be in a country that has never tried to commit genocide excpt for the American Indians. We've never sat by and let people be slaughtered by governments or rebels we've helped like in El Salvador or Columbia. We are right because we're American. I'm so glad you've cleared all this up for me I'll sleep much better at night
  6. Your right there are still a few American Indians around, but "we" tried like hell didn't we
  7. As far as the US Government goes I think it's smoke and mirrors and if they could they wouldn't give a scrap of food if they thought they could get away with it. Remember this is the same government that tried to deny agent orange did damage to vets and refused to compensate so they wouldn't look guilty or have to pay a lot of $$$$. The only interest the US government really has is to keep all the money people happy so they can get re-elected. They don't give a f$ck about the average person. Thats why I try to stay out of war threads, because I know my opinion don't mean jack. My opinion will not stop the war. My opinion will not stop GW and his oil and defense buddies from doing what they want. On the other hand when I hear all this BS about humanitarian aid well I just have to say something (although it ain't gonna change shit). The US has let 1000's of people be killed and tortured because it would have been economically unpleasnt for us to stop it, and I'm supposed to believe these same people have suddenly developed a consience (sp). Well buddy I'm here to tell ya I don't believe it's raining but theres something warm and wet on my back
  8. Nope.....is that an attempt at humor? If so it went right over my head
  9. Just got this from a good friend who kayaks and thought it was pretty cool
  10. Who? The American Indians living in squalor on their luxery reservations where they have been swept. Maybe they can get a fraction of a percent of that 80 billion? Naaaa just leave them there and keep oppressing them they'll disappear someday Is that the "liberty" your talking about?
  11. We stay where we are, because are neither of our views are going to change anything. Didn't mean to be insulting but I'm getting tired of the humanitarian card being played. It insults my intelligence when the US acts so high and mighty when in fact they've been wallowing with the pigs all along. I'm still trying to figure out how we went from Osama to Saddam. Never mind the fact that we've been sorry about helping him into power from the get go.
  12. NONONO what the US does is support whoever they need to to secure their economic interests. People like S.H, Manuel Noriega, but if said people get out of hand then it's time to go spank them. The US is only concerned with their freedom. The only time others freedom comes into play is when we want to look good taking out a regime we helped start in the first place. The bottom line is you may believe that load of shit but don't try to sell it to me We're so humanitarian why look at the way American Indians live after their country was taken from them We are hated because we have supported and armed tyrants simply because it was economically convenient
  13. I would offer an argument but your so locked in to your point of view that it would be useless. One question though, didn't we help put S.H. in power over 20 years ago even though we knew he was bloodthirsty SOB?
  14. Sung to the tune of the Lumber Jack Song
  15. Before 8 making my father tell me the Brair Rabbit stories, Which I'm sure he got tired of telling us After 8 John Carter Warlord of Mars and Conan
  16. Once after this fair my frat puts on every year 3 pledges from another frat came up to the house during the after party. These knucleheads then proceeded to tell us how they were gonna drink us under the table and how cool they were and what a bunch of rabble we were much to our amusement. We gladly let them have their fill of beer. I mean we did have 17 kegs so we could afford to share. Now I have to give you a picture of my frat. We were part of a National Frat but due to infractions, the school the town and all the other frats hating us we had to form our own independent frat so we took the name Delta inspired by Animal House and much to everyones chagrin we survived. The house had motorcycles hanging from the trees and part of a VW buried in the lawn. I've heard rumors ranging from we ran a whore house to we had Meth labs in the basement. I've seen girls run past the house at dusk like we were gonna run out to the sidewalk and kidnap them of the street(thats actually how we got our labor to run the whore house). So after a hard days work the how shall we say party favors came out and the drinking began and thats what these fools walked into. Well just as our party is hitting full force these guys are stumbling around with their egos puffed way out from drinking and with that ego growth came a direct loss in brain function. They lasted till about 1 am then the fun began full makeup was applied eyebrows were shaved, a couple of chests got spray painted, shoes tied together, throw in liberal application of perm marker and then coverd in trash on the portch. One comes too it was so funny because I had kinda forgotten he was under all that trash and all the sudden it starts moving, which drew a crowd. Poor guy comes to and were all circled around him laughing and he doesn't yet have a real clue as too why he gets up takes a step and falls down, He fell for the shoe laces thing lol. he fumbles with his laces for five minutes as we give him helpful hints, then he gives up and shuffles off to our laughter and the constant question of "are you really just gonna leave your brothers here?" which he did. Shuffeling 6 inches a step which gave us plenty of time to admire our work vanishing into the distance. I left the portch shortly thereafter and never did find out when the other 2 snuck off but they did leave their pledge books so we wrote a note to their brotherhood telling them that their pledges had left their pledge books at our house because they got to drunk. We told them they could have them back for a couple of cases of beer. We never heard back from them but a few pledges probably got their ass chewed out for a long time. I wonder how long they scrubbed before they realized that Delta's were not coming off immediatly and that the whole time they were getting bitched at a Delta would be staring at their brothers. Ohhh the memories I hadn't thought about that in quite a while it brings a tear to the eye
  17. I gotta agree with you there I haven't even read his last couple of books, but the last one I did read didn't impress me, but I can still remeber how blown away I was by Ringworld when I first read it at 14 I kind of noticed that but was so into the story (I luv them hard boild detective stories) I didn't really pay to much attention to it. I can see how it could be annoying though Forever War by Joe Haldeman (sp)....Yes!!!!! More "Stranger in a Strange Land" my Fav by Heinlein The Plecione Trilogy by Julianne May Dying world stuff by Jack Vance (cant think of the names of the books) The Giants trilogy by James P Hogan Manifold Trilogy Stephen Baxter
  18. I've always made the distinction of calling it Hard Science Fiction or Science Fantasy on is based on things that are possible or haven't been proven impossible. Science Fantasy is stuff you have to suspend belief in certain things to make the story work I would put Niven, Brin, Baxter, Foreward in the hard Science Fiction category I would put Hubbard and Bradbury in the science fantasy category I consider almost all movies and TV to be science fantasy My .02
  19. No one has mentioned William Gibson The father of cyberpunk. The Sprawl Trilogy Neuromancer, Count Zero, and Monalisa Overdrive are essential reading. The Matrix is just derivative of his stuff IMHO. Just read Kiln People by Brin good stuff as usual (All the killer B's rock) If you read the second uplift trilogy go here http://www.davidbrin.com/temptation1.html if you liked to be teased there might be a third trilogy coming. Theres also a short story about the beggining of uplift here http://www.davidbrin.com/aficionado1.html The Legacy of Herot and all known space stuff from Niven and not forgetting the 2 Smoke ring books either. Battlefield Earth The movie sucked L. Ron was a freak but it's one funny book and I mean really funny not haha funny. Thinking about Terl is cracking me up right now
