What exactly does AFF allow me to do?
DiverMike replied to TDFbound's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It would have to be a pretty crappy DZ to consider an inquiry from a prospective AFF student a waste of time. Call them. or post the link. -
I researched it further, and I guess it makes sense. According to the original article: I guess it is a matter of semantics - but it doesn't make mathematic sense to me. If my income goes from $100 to $110 dollars, and 5 other people's income goes from $50 to $49 dollars. Don't I account for 100% of the increase? According to this statistician, I would account for 200% of the increase. (100+50+50+50+50+50) = 350; (110+49+49+49+49+49) = 355. The statistic is based on net increase, not gross increase. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

I didn't mean to single you out. I just grabbed the most recent post that quoted the statistic. Do you understand it? I don't. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
-
Can someone help me out here? Given that the increase in income is some defined dollar amount, how can any group capture more than 100% of that increase? How is this statistic calculated? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

Converting metal reserve ripcord to soft?
DiverMike replied to milehigheric's topic in Gear and Rigging
Couldn't you argue that the seal is similar to the tags that must appear on mattresses when they are initally sold.? In the case of a reserve repack it shows the consumer they received the service for which they paid. It does make is easier to assert that F.A.R. 105.43b is being followed if an intact seal exists, but there is nothing in that regulation that requires it. Jump pilot for an uninsured company

If you are a member of AOPA, you can sign up for their legal plan at $39.00 a year to get answers to your questions. https://pilot-protection-services.aopa.org/#!/basic-level-coverage For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -
Yes, but to me wrestling is the epitome of the Olympics. It is mock combat that involves less injuries than boxing. Maybe the French consider running to be the epitome. YMMV edited for grammar For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
-
wow - you must be really old to remember that. The first Olympics was in 776 BC. According to wikipedia, it only had one event - a running race. Wrestling wasn't added until 708 BC. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

+1 I agree completely. Wrestling is one of the sports that doesn't have a big payday at the end of it. It requires as much commitment and devotion as any other sport, but it doesn't come with a green jacket or million dollar paydays like golf does. The athletes work extremely hard and the highest level of competition and worldwide recognition is the Olympics. Starting 2020, it won't be. The Olympics has lost a lot of its amateur soul. It is now just a billion dollar industry. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

You picked a good field. I have a BS in Computer Science (1980) and have been an applications developer/executive for a while. The money is good and people think you are smart. I get to take long lunch hours and skydive almost every weekday during lunch. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

TX GOP Gov. Rick Perry: "Keep fags out of the Boy Scouts!"
DiverMike replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't know about this opinion. Sure he was 55 before he got married, but there is no known historical evidence he was anything other than heterosexual. You could use the same facts to assert he was a pedophile. This is complete conjecture. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -
I would defer to people with more knowledge than I, but why would you add a chaotic event ( canopy stall) to an unstable environment? Wouldn't the stalled canopy run the risk of entanglement with the flying canopy? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

TX GOP Gov. Rick Perry: "Keep fags out of the Boy Scouts!"
DiverMike replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
I agree in principle, but I also realize I could have worded my opinion a little better. The Mormon church is not the problem. The problem is Scout Executives who feel the BSA is better by keeping the support of the Mormon Church instead of changing a policy that is clearly outdated. The BSA relies heavily on donor support. If it loses the big whale that the Mormon church is, they are going to have to hope more donors step forward if they allow gays. That probably won't happen. The BSA is a business that makes many decisions that are business based. I am not convinced their business model is "always been about maintaining Puritan morals and couching arcane bigotries in the veneer of wholesome family values" For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -
TX GOP Gov. Rick Perry: "Keep fags out of the Boy Scouts!"
DiverMike replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
I have been an active adult Leader in Boy Scout troops for over 20 years. I personally don't think homosexuals are a problem, either as members or leaders, nor have I met anyone in my Scouting Career who is truly homophobic. I have run into 2 pedophiles whom we kicked out and reported to the police, but that is a different and disgusting situation. However, IMHO there are two reasons the BSA has the stance it does: 1. The Mormon church is the biggest problem in that it provides significant revenue to Scouting and it has made it clear it would no longer support Scouting if it allows homosexuals. If BSA loses that revenue stream, they will have to downsize its paid staff or charge more per boy. Personally, I say good riddance to the Mormons. 2. Almost every boy who is active in scouting has to overcome peer group pressure to stay in. It isn't a 'cool' organization. IMHO, I don't believe the gain in membership based on a few gay boys joining is going to offset the exodus of boys who can't deal with the "hey nerds - you now allow fags" taunting. Eventually, scouting will allow gays. The net effect is it will be a smaller organization for doing so, but IHMO a better organization. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -

The BSR for USPA Group members is quite clear: That requirement is waiverable only by the Executive Committee of the USPA Board. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -

Hey - what's the big idea injecting empirical data into Speakers Corner? After looking at your spreadsheet, I think I want to move out of Ohio. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

Congratulations on being smart. I have purchased a lot of equipment on DZ.Com, but I always make sure the seller knows someone at their DZ who can vouch for them. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

I hope the best for you. The Skydiving community is a small community and it is difficult making money supporting skydivers. It isn't my intent to make it more difficult for a one person company jumpsuit manufacturer to make money. It may be my experience with EG Jumpsuit was unusual. I certainly hope so. Supreme Court to hear alleged OBAMA forgeries
DiverMike replied to OHCHUTE's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't have a dog in this fight, but the 1st 3 digits are based on where the Social Security Number was issued at the time of the application. I was born in Missouri, but have an Ohio 3 digit range. Does that mean I am hiding something about my nefarious past in Missouri? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -
In my case, a more interesting poll would be the percentage of discretionary income spent on skydiving. I direct deposit a part of my paycheck into a separate checking account that is basically my 'fun money'. The rest of the check goes into another account for mortgages, retirement, food, clothing, etc. I spend very close to 100% of my 'fun-money' on skydiving. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
