  1. Two of them are red heads so you don't want to really be around when they interact
  2. So 254 jumps with 239 posts puts you at about 1.06. You should be careful or you will violate your own rule. I consider the content rather than the source. I personally have posted more than I have jumped, but I have rarely posted to Safety and Training , Incidents, or General Skydiving Discussions because I know I am an noob. I have been involved in many FAR and SIM discussions, because I don't think jump numbers matter in those discussions. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  3. What makes people think that politicians will do the right thing when it comes to reducing expenses to get rid of the deficit? I think it will be similiar to local school districts that get rid of extracurricular activities like sports or providing buses rather than firing the crazy guidance counselor and/or the 5 assistant librarians. The politicians are going to protect their lobbyist and make the American people suffer by reducing valuable services. I am posting this rant so that in about 2 years I can bring this thread back up and say I told you so. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  4. I would say at least half would meet Shah's criteria of a size 8 For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  5. +1 For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  6. You are correct. I checked with my wife and she indicated only my 14 year old has a facebook account because the minumum age is 13. I didn't know this when I gave them permission to sign up, but my wife obviously did. The two 12 year olds have another couple of months before they will be allowed to get one. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  7. My kids have facebook accounts (that my wife monitors) and I have 4 kids between the ages of 10 and 13. They are also extremely active physically. I don't agree there is a cause-effect relationship with the internet and fat lazy kids. I think fat lazy kids are that way for other reasons and we blame computers or the internet. We wouldn't let them have a facebook account without 'friending' mom or dad. All my kids refused my friend request because they thought I would embarrass them, but accepted their mom's. 8. I drop by there every weekday in the middle of the day when they are open. I try to get 2 jumps in during my lunch hour, but there are times when the loads are full and I am lucky to get one in. They appear to be busy to me, but don't take my word for it. I am a regular there and would probably be considered to drink their kool-aid. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  9. I am wrong - you are right. I guess "105.45 A 2 ii) Uses the harness position prescribed by the manufacturer of the tandem parachute equipment." dictates the TI must be in back. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  10. I went to sign up, but wanted to verify I can take the Basic course on Sunday August 7th. Will he be teaching the basic course on Sunday or just Friday? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  11. That reg is only in violation if the person in front was not a TI. I don't see anything in the regulation that indicates the parachutist in command must be in back. Given the lack of information it cannot be determined if any regs were violated. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  12. Your description of your first jump is exactly as I remember my first static line jump in 1978. I would be surprised if anybody has a significantly different memory of their first static line jump. What I am saying is you are completely normal and progressing exactly like 99% of skydivers. Keep up the enjoyment. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  13. And it wasn't all that long ago that 200 jumps qualified you for a 'D' license. Some areas consider you to have expertise in a skill after you are authorized to teach that skill. USPA allowing someone to become a coach at 100 jumps would indicate to me that 100+ jumps makes you at least an intermediate level skydiver in their eyes. (For the life of me, I don't know why the requirement isn't a 'C' license to become a coach). For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  14. OK - that makes a lot more sense. Why didn't they label it "Enter the Current cost of a new Cypress?" Instead the directions say, "Change the above values to match your CYPRES then press the 'Calculate!' button." I know I am being picky, but as a software developer I get annoyed by crappy user interfaces. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  15. An interesting albeit flawed calculator. The original cost of the cypres should not affect the current value. I plugged $3000 for the original cost (assuming I was dumb enough to pay close to 3x retail). It came up with a value of $2,341.43 for the value of a 4 year old cypres. The original purchase price should not be a factor for current market value. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  16. You can't seriously believe that freedom of speech exists for a spectator in a court of law for a murder trial? It would be completely unfair for any defendant to have spectators from the peanut gallery demonstrating their opinions to the judge or jury. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  17. But you gotta admit the Mitzvot cover much more ground than the 10 commandments. The 10 commandments remain silent about eating your neighbor's grape and corn but the Mitzvot are quite clear: "When thou comest into thy neighbour's vineyard, then thou mayest eat grapes until thou have enough at thine own pleasure; but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel" or "When thou comest into thy neighbour's standing corn, then thou mayest pluck ears with thy hand; but thou shalt not move a sickle unto thy neighbour's standing corn. " For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  18. Your explanation makes more sense. There was stuff going on behind the scenes. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  19. I'm confused - isn't that exactly what he did when he created the thread: "Mirage issues SB rescission on Argus AAD's"? I can understand you adding the information to the original Argus thread that was locked so the information is available in one spot, but locking the new thread and then telling him to create a new thread doesn't make sense. I can appreciate that you are trying to prevent Argus discussion threads popping up like mushrooms (good luck with that), but the process you suggest creates more Argus threads. Was it the title of the thread you didn't like? Was there an open thread he could have posted it to? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  20. I am not sure what 'way past 'A' is, but I jumped rental gear for about 30 jumps after my 'A' license. It wasn't the cheapest way to do it, but I didn't mind having the Dropzone make some money off of me while I was jumping a 200+ sf canopy. I also had to pay packers to pack the last jump of each day and I was glad to send some money their way. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  21. Yes it would get confusing. I forgot to include Airtec also. My revised estimate would be .95 jumper, .049999 rigger, .000001 Airtec for designing a lifesaving device that could be installed incorrectly. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  22. I like your poll and would somehow like to take it a step further. Imagine the student's life is worth one dollar to his heirs for his untimely death that could have been prevented if he never took up skydiving. IMHO the student is responsible for 95 cents for not pulling and the rigger for a nickel for misrouting. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  23. ....The solution here could be a simple as requiring a closeout photo. Great idea, but where do you stop? A rigger can make several critical mistakes. Do you have him photograph/video the whole process, or just trust him/her to do it correctly? We need to remember this was one misrouted reserve pack job out of tens of thousands done yearly. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  24. It is completely how you feel about yourself when making the decision to back out. After all, you are the only person who truly cares about your well being. If you think you create possibilities of better opportunities for yourself, don't back out. If you aren't, then back out. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  25. Then watch the incidents go up because of foreign objects entering the cutter since it is not as protected. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
