  1. Does he know you well enough to call you an asswell? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  2. +1 For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  3. When I first saw that monster size Polo pony I thought it was a sarcastic joke. I was wrong. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  4. I'm probably going to hell, but I couldn't stop laughing at your attachment. Good stuff. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  5. Powerful stuff. I'm a pretty reserved guy (think vulcan) but actually had tears running down my cheeks. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  6. Interesting that there was nothing in the meeting minutes about the discussion or why the proposal was defeated. From the meeting minutes:" The committee chose to make no change to the current award requirement." Was there any justification for the choice? Usually there is a reason why you choose. Possibly because there can't be more than a handful of 'A' license holders with 12 hours freefall and it isn't worth the time and energy to change the requirement for a couple people. Sucks to be you For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  7. It makes absolutely no sense to require a 'D' license for a certificate of recognition that is strictly based on experience and has no other intrinsic value. I can understand making people have a 'D' license for some ratings, but it makes no sense whatsoever for a "certificate of recognition". I almost didn't believe you until I looked at the USPA application http://www.uspa.org/Portals/0/Downloads/Form_badges_app_2008_08.pdf and it does require a 'D' license. I would have lost that bet. 8. Thanks for all the advice. I'll shut up now. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  9. First and foremost - I get it - I am not going to touch a camera until I have 200 jumps, but . . . many of the same people who have quoted the USPA recommendations for camera jumps to me totally ignore the guidelines for low turns. I find it disengenuous to have swoopers quoting USPA guidelines to me. I still respect the opinion that jumping with a camera with low jump numbers is a bad idea. 10. I can't agree that http://www.uspa.org/...bid/158/Default.aspx is a convenient search. You can only filter it by month and it shows every single ratings course available everywhere in the world. I'm all for telling people to RTFM or search the forums when they ask "What canopy size should I jump", but in this case I support the OP. 11. In 1972, Liddy resigned his White House post to accept the positions of General Counsel of the 1972 Republican presidential campaign and the campaign finance committee, with additional duties as campaign political intelligence director. He held several positions in the republican party. Not that there is anything wrong with that. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  12. Don't these things happen in threes? Hmmm - light skinned black men who cheat: 1. Tiger 2. This guy 3. Wonder what Obama is up to? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  13. That is sooo wrong and yet sooo right. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  14. Can you get to the main drive of the share using UNC? For example, if your share is on the D drive of a server named "FILESRV", can you get to \\FILESRV\D$ ? Can you get to \\Filesrv\D$\Sharedfolder\ If so, the problem is definitely in the permissions of your share and not the folder, but you probably already know that. 15. I'll be there for safety day also and will gladly 'buy you a beer' for any advice. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  16. I was PM'd by one of the DZ instructors after my original post, and I did change my mind based on the DZ's policy, so we are on the same page there. That is exactly what I am doing. I meant that I wasn't going to throw my opinion out there since opinions about skydiving without personal experience are worthless and possible dangerous. I hope my posts haven't come across as being argumentative and I apologize for the 'flaming' comment. It was a knee jerk reaction from being lumped into an ignoramous group by a moderator. Your posts are clearly to help me as a new skydiver prevent injuring or killing myself. I'm OK with that. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

  18. I agree completely that it isn't useful for freefall, but I feel there are at least two good reasons to have a video flight recorder during a solo jump. 1. A picture is worth a thousand words when I am trying to describe some minor malfunction during deployment or canopy flight and how I react to it. Ditto for major malfunction. 2. I feel I can better learn canopy control skills, accuracy, pattern flying, etc if I narrate what I am attempting and have that video reviewed by an instructor. BTW- I have since learned that my Dropzone (Start Skydiving) pretty much interprets the USPA recommendation of 200 jumps as a BSR. I trust and respect the staff at Start Skydiving, and since they say don't do it, I won't. I'm not in a hurry to injure/kill myself. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  19. Actually, I have - that is where I saw the YouTube link. It is also why I haven't already mounted a camera on my helmet, and am just considering it. There is no question in my mind I would become a safer skydiver faster using a video flight recorder to review my skydives. However, there is a question in my mind as to whether such device would distract me. Until I am relatively sure I won't be distracted by it, I will be a good little skydiver and follow the USPA recommendations as well as strangers I've never met on the internet. 20. I know you aren't supposed to shoot video until 200 jumps, but technology has changed so much that video is not that intrusive. It isn't like you have to wear a giant bucket on your head anymore. I am a total newbie with an 'A' license. I am considering some of the very small video cameras to use as a training tool for myself, not to take videos of others. I know the main arguement against it is the fact you have a video camera turned on can be a distraction, and yes I have seen the youtube video of AAD's going off because people with low jump numbers were playing with a video camera. I do know I would learn faster if I could review my jumps on video with an instructor. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  21. You miss the point of this mental masturbation. I could create a scenario where the Rhino is the only source of food and the kids who eat it won't die after it is gone. Perhaps some entrepeneur is opening an all you can eat gorilla hamburger stand and it won't be open for 3 months. The kids could eat the rhino burgers for 3 months and then switch to gorilla burgers. I think all of this is a projection of our own feelings. I personally believe no animal on the planet is worth my life or the life of a family member. I can project that rationalization onto you and other members of the human race. If I feel that way, I guess it is ok for you to feel that way also. If everybody feels that way, then no animal on the planet is worth a single human life. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  22. Did you notice the report you are quoting in response to the post above you was written by the poster above you? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  23. I am not a grammar nazi, but my personal pet peeve is people who think they are and still get it wrong. It should be "whom to believe" For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  24. But what if the poacher wanted to kill the last black rhino to feed his children to keep them alive? I say rhino burgers for the kids. Not all poachers are big white hunters looking for trophies. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  25. For $12.00 postage and handling, you can have a custom picture put on your Altimaster Galaxy making it almost impossible to confuse with someone else's. Being somewhat whimsical, I made mine look like a Mickey Mouse Watch (see attached). I'm pretty sure nobody else is going to do that or steal mine.
