Need a pilot with jump plane in WY this weekend
DiverMike replied to Briharp9's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yes - the guvmint owns all the air. You would think that jumping over a crowd of people, but landing in an empty field would be ok based on 105.21.a, but I'm guessing this reg is written so people can leave at the right spot (over town) and land at the airport dropzone. But the Advisory Circular conveniently leaves out any mention of being allowed to drift over during a demo jump. If nothing goes wrong with the jump, and the FAA didn't see it, the FAA Form 7711-2 is probably not needed if you jump over but land in the open. If the shit hits the fan, I'm pretty sure the NTSB will screw the pilot and in some cases the skydiver. I am a little curious how the conversation with the USPA regional director went. skydiver: I have a 'B' license, 170 jumps, and plan to jump into my wedding off the DZ with spectators. Regional Director: Sure go ahead For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -

That is where you are wrong. It was done in public airspace. You could reference AC 105-2D and argue that it was in class 'E' or 'G' and ATC only had to be notified. Did you notify ATC no earlier than 24 hours before nor later than 1 hour prior to the jump? Regardless, the National Transpoyation and Safety Board (NTSB) typically rules that if anyone was watching it, it was considered to be an open-air assembly of people and requires the form Form 7711-2 to be filled out and approved, so simple notification is not enough. From a recent ruling: Jumping into a wedding if there were spectators present would definitely be considered a demo jump by the NTSB. Your Regional Director gave you bad advice. But hey, you got away with it. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -

Glad everything went well. Since this might be considered a 'bandit jump', the less said about it the better (to protect the pilot and/or DZO). For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -

This will be considered a 'bandit jump' if all you have is 170 jumps and a 'B' license. From the SIM Section 7-1-C Hope it all works out for you, but people with experience who know what they are talking about have indicated this is a bad idea. These poor migrants just want passage into the USA
DiverMike replied to regulator's topic in Speakers Corner
I agree the only way to stop the immigration problem is to fix up the 'shit hole' country (not my words - see post #1). Norway and Sweden consistently outrank the USA in quality of life and life expectancy, but you don't see American parents shipping their children there. That is because our country is safe enough to raise a family and enjoy a good standard of living. Until we can make that statement about some of the Central American countries, we will have an immigration problem. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -

Is Sherry Butcher in the same boat as Rich Winstock??
DiverMike replied to stayhigh's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
No it is not. According to Robert's Rules of order, all remarks are addressed through the chair. The advantage of this rule is that there are no side conversations or debates between members. The chair is expected to control the meeting and this rule helps do that. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -
Mexico to facilitate travel from Central America to the US border
DiverMike replied to Iago's topic in Speakers Corner
I have traveled through Mexico as well as Guatemala and spent time with the people there. I can assure you, if I were in the shoes of the people living there, I would do whatever I could to get my family to the USA. I am pretty sure everyone on DZ.COM would do the same. Many 'ugly americans' don't realize the lottery ticket we won just being born here. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -
Rich Winstock Swoop Incident Cover-Up
DiverMike replied to skydived19006's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
1. True, but the don't have to respond. 2. It has been brought up several times in this thread - why should several hundred people go begging one at a time hat in hand to get answers. I don't really have a dog in this fight. I don't know enough about the incident to form an opinion. The lack of communication about the incident is disturbing though. class III medical question in relation to DUI
DiverMike replied to Adamkrum's topic in Tandem Skydiving
The gerund 'being' indicates present participle. If it said "having been trained", or "trained" you might have a valid argument that an event that occurred in the past satisfies the requirement. I imagine the FAA used the present participle to handle changes in training requirements by the manufacturer. 30 years ago, I was trained as a Water Safety Instructor by the Red Cross. I don't believe many people would consider me as currently being properly trained as a lifeguard. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -

+1 You can't be in this sport more than a couple of years without seeing someone who is much safer and better than you get seriously injured or die. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -
Anyone who spends $7,000 on a first rig obviously does not either solicit or accept advise from other people. I am willing to bet 99.99% of skydivers would have recommended buying used for a first rig, then downsize. Regardless of how hard he worked to save money, it is questionable it was money well spent. But still we keep offering advise to someone who doesn't listen. What does that say about us? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

That is a stretch. The primary definition of being armed is to be furnished with weapons. Legal gun owners are not furnishing anything (definition: to supply or give something to someone or something). I would agree that the criminal class is arming itself by stealing from law abiding citizens, but legal gun owners are definitely not arming the criminals. You went to a doctor, which was smart. Asking advice on the internet - not so smart. Don't do Valsalva extensively. If the problem is in your sinus cavity, you could make it worse. You could even have a 'reverse ' block where the pressure is greater in your sinuses and can't escape. I've had that happen to me at 30' underwater and surfacing was extremely painful. Wait a week - it will probably go away. Finally, don't listen to me either. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

I have mixed feelings about this. When I was growing up, the rule was you didn't use the American Flag as a decoration. Now it used for underwear and a towel to be draped over a runners shoulder when they win a race. I guess I am just an old man now. Hey kids - get off my lawn !! The only bullfights I have ever been to are in Pamplona during the Festival of San Fermin. I really don't think it is fair to watch the killing of bulls unless you give them the opportunity to kill you first. Even then, it is brutally disgusting to watch. Is the solar energy generated from the panels the sole source of energy of these factories? Which ones are they? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
-
As long as coal is a cheaper energy source, it will be used. How many solar panel factories use solar energy to power the factory? How many windmill producing factories derive their energy from windmills? I would submit most of them use energy generated from coal, because the business is primarily interested in profit, so the cheapest form of energy is used. I had my finger pinched in the roll down door of a Cessna Caravan. I was helping close it after a hop and pop. I bled like a stuck pig, jumped anyway (last load of the season last year). Eventually lost the fingernail For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

+1 I just took a FFC. I waited until I had 350 jumps. Unless you are completely comfortable you can handle all your EP's under any condition, wait. The sky will always be there. It is very much like wearing a straight jacket. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
