I was having some problems on my level 6 AFF with stability and after failing it twice I went and did a 10 min block of tunnel time. After that I brezzed through the rest of the lvls it helped me a lot with getting a stable body position.

Well after reading this post I can say that all skydiving courses are not created equal. I have about 15 out of the 20 jumps done for the course I’m taking and we needed to learn all of that stuff. I think I was doing full gear checks with my instructor watching making sure I was getting everything by jump # 5 or 6. The first part of the course is probably your standard run of the mill AFF program but then after jump 8 it is a series of coached dives and solos. Most of the coached dives have all had some sort of review and usually some type of quiz on emergency procedures or equipment usually oral. Also learning to pack is a requirement they wont even sign off on your A license until they watch you pack with out help. I’m sure everyplace does it different. This way by far not the cheapest jump course I have looked at but it defiantly seems to be the most thorough.

I wonder what kind of wing loading would be good for a cat??? According to my caculations a 28" pilot chute has a surface area of about 4.2 sq feet. Now for the sake of argument lets say the average full grown cat is about 16 pounds(Just a guess) 16/4.2 = 3.8 wing loading. Now I'm assuming that this kitty is a noob when it comes to skydiving so I'm guessing a cross braced highly loaded pilot chute is out of the question. That and cats don't really like swooping the pond all that much. So I'm guessing maybe a larger drogue chute from a tandem rig may work best or a posable 2 pilot chute system might work. Man I'm bored!! Matt

Sounds like most of the code I used to write when I first started programing either that or a good description of my landings :) Matt

Well the chance of being injured is probably a lot higher in the car ride there then the actual skydive. Matt

Well being a noob myself and just doing this exact jump last weekend I will offer what little advice i can. I was having the problem of leaving the plane completely unstable usually flipping and all kinds of other stuff. taking about 2k to get into a stable position. Anyway the key for me was to keep looking at the plane on exit. Every time I messed up the exit I was looking down at the ground. On my hop and pop my instructor said she was going to give me a hand signal when I left the plane and i had to tell her what it was. So basely forced me to look at plane on exit and it worked. I was also very cool watching the plane as i fell away from it and then watching my instructor jump out. after i pulled i was able to watch her until the time she pulled. I looked like she was about 10 feet from the ground at pull time but was really only about 1000 feet lower then me. Was very cool. Ohh yeah and i almost forgot Relax!! (was one of my bigest problems as well) Matt

The drive to the tunnel is not much farther then my DZ. so thats not big deal As far a canopy control goes I agree it is important but i have not had any problems in that department as of yet. Its the relaxation and body position stuff that is causing me to fail. Matt

Ok here is the deal I have done my level 6 AFF jump twice now and not having much luck getting past it. My instructors tell me I'm to focused on what I'm trying to do and that I'm getting tunnel vision and that is causing me to get a little tense and that in turn is causing me to get unstable during the free fall. Also part of the unstable free fall is not getting my legs out. So I understand the problem 100% and agree with them. Talking to my instructor he suggested doing a relaxation dive no real turns or flips just to try to get me to open up and relax a bit and get into a better body position. Now here is the question I was thinking about doing 10 minutes in one of those wind tunnels. It would cost me about the same to do either option a relaxation dive or wind tunnel training. In the end what one do you think would be the better of the 2 options. Thanks Matt
