who would have guessed wind tunnels are so exhusting :)
simplechris replied to alp27's topic in Wind Tunnels
I've been doing 30 mins a day at SVCO. 10 min sessions flying 5 2 min sessions in each. All sitflying for 3 days. Well that is unitl I cant sit and then I go to transitions from back to belly for a few mins. Needless to say after 3 days I'm beat lol. Stretching is a really big help as well as water. -
At 6'3 195 I have a long torso and I tried the Javelin and the Infinity. The Infinity seemed to fit me better so that is what I went went. Built solid, looks great and I'm happy as can be with it. Can't wait till I order my next one.

Skydive Houston's HeatWaves Boogie - June18-20
simplechris replied to AndrewKarnowski's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I should try to round up everyones leftover footage and make one since I don't wear a camera yet lol. It's worth a shot for 2 hrs of tunnel time. -
Thanks, I got a PIlot 188 so I'm gonna enjoy that for awhile. I might look into a Sabre2 190 or Safire 2 for my next one.

Skydive Houston should change it's name to....

Fast Andy (the fainting goat) arrived about 2 weeks ago -
That is an interesting comparison. I demoed a 210 Storm and although it was the nicest opening canopy I have jumped, I found it to be kind of slow. It was a very docile canopy but I think I like the 9 cells better. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
-
I understand lol. I wasn't looking for an OK. I was just curious. I have indeed been told that I will enjoy it more and that it will actually perform better than the 210. The 210 is fun right now but as far as when I order something, everyone said that I would be happier if I ordered a 190. Btw that is coming from experienced canopy pilots that have watched me since jump 1. I plan on being on the 190 for awhile.
-
I was curious as to how much a difference 1.15 to 1 is compared to 1.04 to 1 on the same canopy. I ask because I am currently loading a 210 9 cell at the 1.04 to 1 and I would load a 190 at the 1.15 to 1. I'm jumping a Pilot right now and I will be demoing a Pulse next weekend.

not sure how helpful this is but this is what I found about it sorry...I don't know how to make it a clicky http://impactnews.com/leander-cedar-park/255-recent-news/6926-cedar-park-signs-agreement-with-schlitterbahn

I've been demoing a Pilot 210 and I dig it. It slammed me once on opening but only once so I'm not holding anything against it just yet. The flare is really good and it's a lot of fun to fly. It's also the ZPX material and fits perfect in my Infinity built for a 190. I'm loading it at 1.06 with 89 jumps and it's working well for me.

Sudden arm malfunction on landing
simplechris replied to ghost47's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had this exact same thing happen to me a couple of weekends ago. I was jumping a demo canopy with really long brake lines and when I came into flare my left hand and arm cramped on me. It was my 4th jump of the day and last load and it has never happened before. I just plf'ed and did kind of a baseball slide for about 10 yds but it was trippy. I'm jumping a different demo and haven't had it happen since. Not sure if it was because of the extra long lines and length required to acheive input or just that I need exercise or something. Guess I need to drink more water and eat some bananas. -
I would say from my experience to do anything you can to buy your own. You can buy good used gear for a fraction of the price. It's hard for me to find used gear because I'm so tall and skinny so I just broke down and ordered a new container. I still rent though while I am waiting for it and it gets frustrating. I have gradually downsized through the student gear to get to the size that my container is being built for but sometimes students will have to use the rig I am jumping. I bounce between a 220, 240 and 260. Another thing with the student gear is that your only supposed to fly on your belly so it kind of limits your playing around. I jump at both DZ's in Houston and at my home DZ its $50 a day for rental. The other DZ is $25 per jump. My Infinity should be here next month though so I'm not sweating it too bad. Good luck on you "A"

Is Tunnel Time worth it? 17 jumps here.
simplechris replied to George_ORH's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think I had 12 jumps when I went. I wasn't struggling with anything but I just wanted to get some practice to help get through the student program. I finished the aff/coach levels without any repeats so I guess it helped lol. I found it useful for things such as side sliding since its pretty easy to tell if your doing it correctly in the tunnel. I know I did 40 mins one day and 20 the next and man was I worn out. The coaching is definitely useful. The whole experience is kind of expensive but not if you compare it to the equivalent number of lift tickets. I don't think I will go back though until I decide on something specific to work on. As far as belly flying I'll just use my money for the real thing. Good luck. -
Question about differences in sea level??
simplechris replied to simplechris's topic in Safety and Training
Thanks for all the info. Not sure about the avg size thing lol. I'm 6'3 and like 194 and out the door with that 260 I've been jumping I'm like 230. I guess I'll just leave it up to them to decide what they think is right for me. Hopefully the tunnel doesn't take everything out of me so I can still put 100% into jumping there. -
Question about differences in sea level??
simplechris replied to simplechris's topic in Safety and Training
QuoteWell, sea level's the same wherever you go, but the altitudes above sea level might vary. lol I had a feeling someone was gonna say something like that
