A larger slider on a canopy can actually cause harder openings, as it may allow for faster bottom skin inflation times. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Yes, and no. I wanted to do it all and be good at everything. I was the same overly enthusiastic type that I sometimes find exhausting these days till their energy comes back down to more realistic levels. I have done a lot, and am pretty damn good at some things. The best part is theres still more to get good at, as well as going back and bringing old skills up to new levels.... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Did Bill Dause really say . . . ?
diablopilot replied to megamalfunction's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm not an particular fan of Mr. Dause, but this is spot on. Life doesn't come to a grinding halt. If people choose to stop jumping because the lost someone they care about, then I support that. If others choose to keep jumping if there is no safety issue, then they shouldn't be condemned for it. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Cutaway under 100ft with skyhook?
diablopilot replied to WhoDaresWins's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Don't worry, none of us are crying about that. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Same as what he said. 13,000 jumps, 8,500 tandems, 18 years in. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Harrison Ford opens new runway at John Wayne Airport
diablopilot replied to ryoder's topic in The Bonfire
To be fair, they suggested the taxiway. By law as soon as your friend declared the emergency he was cleared for all runways, taxiways, ramps, the parking garage, or the top of the terminal/tower for that matter. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Should the USPA BOD Meetings Go Virtual
diablopilot replied to skydived19006's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You're talking about a group that won't even adapt to broadcasting the meetings (and it's been offered to do for free) much less embrace the technology to go virtual. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -

$20 a load. That's a start. After you've proven yourself, that's when I think a reasonable DZO might talk salary. And if people knew who you were, they'd be more likely to hold a conversation. Stating "I have a ton of turbine/jet experience" means very little in this industry. This is as different from corporate flying as corporate flying is to flight instructing. I've met some jet jockeys that are able to figure it out really well, and I've met some that don't get it at all. The biggest thing you can do to be successful is when showing up for training, suspend the idea that you know anything at all. Be very receptive to that idea, and you have a chance to do well. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I seem to remember a UK DZ operating one a while back, I'd say the biggest reason Stateside it the relative obscurity of the aircraft here... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

USPA Acts to Ensure Proper TI Qualifications
diablopilot replied to fencebuster's topic in Tandem Skydiving
It doesn't appear to me that any membership has been revoked, but rather suspended pending the outcome of an investigation, again as outlined as normal procedure in the S&TA and Governance manuals. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Supervan 900 - Caravan engine mod
diablopilot replied to pilotdave's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm not an A&P, but from an operational side they seem to be very simple, and mo more maintenance than a standard caravan, perhaps less so. It seems the onboard batteries need to be replace more frequently, say every two years, but nothing else unusual. The oil consumption is almost negligible compared to a Pratt in my experience. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
USPA Acts to Ensure Proper TI Qualifications
diablopilot replied to fencebuster's topic in Tandem Skydiving
Because they have USPA memberships. Because that is the specified course of action as spelled out in the S&TA and Governance Manuals ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Supervan 900 - Caravan engine mod
diablopilot replied to pilotdave's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Despite my uninformed nearly, 10 year old review previously in this thread, I have a completely different opinion of this aircraft. After flying more than three seasons in them I find them to be able to do all that is advertised. The are fast to altitude, even faster on descent, an easy workload for the pilot, very reliable, VERY efficient on fuel, and just plain fun to fly. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Physics behind why a large formation falls slower
diablopilot replied to gingergal's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You're correct John. But so is Rob. Both are valid reason, though I suspect your ego chokes on that idea. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
I don't know a DZO that requires USPA membership from it's customers BECAUSE of the Group Membership, but rather because it shows a baseline of experience and the third party insurance is worth it. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

California, USA. At the same time, he says he will NOT have ANY parachute on him. So, did they get the FAA exemption to do that? Answer: Since he is not wearing a parachute, this is not a skydive and this part 105 does not apply. In fact, the FAA is not sure what to do with him. For now, the concept of not posing risk to persons or property on the ground as a result of throwing objects out of an aircraft in flight is the only rule that applies. Luke did get approval to pull low with a BASE canopy (2 parachute system) for his training. Daily updates: https://www.facebook.com/Luke-Aikins-998360006849439/?fref=ts Do you have first hand knowledge, or are you just making things up? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. The following is pure speculation, but if you develop a plan for a specific jump including the training, equipment design and testing, contingencies, personnel involved, and then submit it in detail to the proper FAA FSDO in a timely enough fashion for them to exercise due diligence and pass it through the proper channels for review, you too could get approval. I suspect you're asking if you can get carte blanche to just jump your BASE rig anywhere out of any aircraft you want. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.
